Does having coeliac disease put you into group 6?

About 1/3 of people who have coeliac disease have reduced spleen function but most coeliacs don’t know if they do or don’t as it’s not routinely tested.

On the gov website it says ‘a problem with your spleen, example sickle cell disease, or you have had your spleen removed’ would put you into group 6, but does anyone have access to more information to know if they’re including coeliacs in this or not?

Thanks.

I spoke to my GP just now about something else and took the opportunity to ask how they are doing with the groups. He told me that they’ve not had any vaccine delivered for the last 2 weeks so they’ve not even started inviting group 5 yet, they’re hoping to get some tomorrow so they can get through group 5 next week and start group 6 the week after. At least he was able to confirm again that I definitely am down as group 6 so that’s something.

I’m in Hampshire.

Oh, that seems slow. You'd hope that it's not just your surgery and their supplies that determine when it's available, as people are usually offered a range of centres.

Covidcorvid · 18/02/2021 17:28

@WombatChocolate

How are coeliacs getting on with receiving the jab?

No word here yet...in Surrey.

No word here. But someone in my village has had the vaccine due to being pre diabetic. Which I don’t understand, they’re not actually diabetic.
Missymoo99 · 18/02/2021 17:46

I have been a coeliac for 38 years, never been offered the flu vaccine and wonder how it would flag on the GPs system as I've never been invited for a check up or anything in all the time I've been with my current surgery! Maybe I should just give them a call but the receptionists there are notoriously rude and unhelpful 😬

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 18/02/2021 18:04

I'm coeliac and had a text message yesterday to book a vacc appointment. We are in the priority 6 group.
Check with your GP and mention that Coeliac uK do confirm that it's in group 6.

dogsaremypeople · 18/02/2021 18:11

Apparently we are on the shielding list now too 🙄

@dogsaremypeople

Apparently we are on the shielding list now too 🙄
What?
Covidcorvid · 18/02/2021 18:22

Haven’t had a letter here about shielding.

dogsaremypeople · 18/02/2021 18:24

Neither have I but people are saying they've been told to shield in the fb groups! I won't believe it till I get a letter myself.

Does having coeliac disease put you into group 6?
dogsaremypeople · 18/02/2021 18:26

I won't be shielding anyway if it's true

MyBossIsATwat · 18/02/2021 18:38

It might be on the new list as a condition that If combined with another factor like post code means you need to shield?

I’d like to see the full article.

Coeliac here. Not been asked to shield...no other health issues.
Just received invitation to book via text, with link to local (not national) booking system. This is in Surrey.

dogsaremypeople · 22/02/2021 13:31

I haven't seen anything else about shielding since the other day so I think it's prob bollocks.

NK346f2849X127d8bca260 · 22/02/2021 15:33

My coeliac ds got invited for Covid jab two weeks ago.

cadburyegg · 28/02/2021 21:32

Got my first jab next week! No other conditions

Lalallama · 05/03/2021 19:06

I'm late 40s with coeliac disease and I emailed the GP last week to ask whether I should book a vaccine or wait to be invited as part of group 6, and they said I won't get vaccinated until it gets to my age group. So I guess only some areas are offering the vaccine for coeliacs. Sad

Lalallama · 05/03/2021 19:07

Just to add, I do get invited for the flu vaccine every year.

BrutusMcDogface · 05/03/2021 19:10

I have coeliac disease and was offered the jab by my surgery. I thought it was because I’m offered the flu jab every year due to the condition.

BrutusMcDogface · 05/03/2021 19:10

Oops, didn’t read your post lalallama. Sorry!

WombatChocolate · 05/03/2021 19:18

Lallam, are you officially diagnosed via endoscopy? Many people say they only had blood test but turned down endoscopy but that means GP don't flag with no official diagnosis.

All you can do is ask them to look at section 14c and I think p11 here coeliac is listed, nif you we offcilalybdiagnised.

loopeydoopey · 05/03/2021 19:29

SO if you are in group 6 how do you get your vaccine?

Is it a case of waiting?

Can someone help?

WombatChocolate · 05/03/2021 19:33

Loopey, group 6 were having to wait for GP contact with appointment booking link to the lcoal booking systems (and you still can) but can also now use the national booking online system or call 119. The national booking and 119 will only work if you have been correctly flagged with coeliac and have the fulldnisagnosis via endoscopy.

Just google book vaccine and you'll be taken to the national booking site. Eligible groups listed there include the moderately vulnerable who are group 6.

You can do it now.

loopeydoopey · 05/03/2021 19:36

Oh Wombat Chocolate - yes I have coeliac disease and have been hospitalised and disagnosed 6 years ago. I have been in hospital more than once.

It has been playing up.

My hospital have discharged my from my usual consultant dietician because I could not make my appointments last time (during lockdown)and I could not get through by the phone and I keep meaning to see GP to get that sorted.

My CD has been pretty challenging lately and I am not sure why .

It has been stressful.

loopeydoopey · 05/03/2021 19:37

So I can just book - I know my GP knows I have CD goodness knows he has seen me so often you have totally made my day.

I was very concerned with the kids going back to school and being left exposed.

So I can book - thank you a million times! Just again are you sure I can book???

Lalallama · 05/03/2021 19:37

@WombatChocolate I wasn't offered an endoscopy as they said the blood test was conclusive. I get GF flour on prescription and the flu jab through the surgery so I assumed I was officially diagnosed. I'll ask them again.
