Sad news. RIP.

marshmallowfluffy · 02/02/2021 16:21

RIP. It's good that he had his family with him until the end.

AhFiddledeedee · 02/02/2021 16:21

I feel really sad about this, I cant put my finger on why exactly. I mean he lived to 100, it's a grand age. A life lived to the full by all accounts,I didnt know him, but I feel so sad hearing this news.

I think it's because he brought people together, we got behind him and cheered him, only for him to pass away with covid, after everything he did for the NHS, it seems such a cruel irony.

Is it me?

Bubbletube · 02/02/2021 16:21

RIP Captain Tom. You were a true hero in every sense

TiddyTid · 02/02/2021 16:22

A positive, beacon of light in a terrible year. Did so much for the NHS.

Rest in peace, Sir

Housing101 · 02/02/2021 16:22

What an incredible, exciting last year he's had. Hope his family take comfort in that.
Seemed like a wonderful man.

ladymuck111 · 02/02/2021 16:22

I didn't expect to be upset but find myself very tearful. He was a positive light in the early dark days of Covid. RIP Captain Tom.

very sad, he was a legend and his family must be so proud. Many in our society could learn a lot from his attitude to life.

TonTonMacoute · 02/02/2021 16:25

Very sad news, but he kept going, and making a huge contribution right up to the end.

A truly inspirational gentleman!

Absolutely. He was a good news story and a beacon of hope. Let him still be that.

maggiethecat · 02/02/2021 16:25

Knew it wasn't good news last night when family were by his bedside.

So very sad to hear but what a man!

Especially as he caught covid IN hospital.

RhubarbTea · 02/02/2021 16:27

I also feel unexpectedly sad and tearful about this. I think because he represented hope.

What a lot of amazing things he managed in his final year, and what a wonderful message for us all - that it's never too late to achieve great things, no matter where you are in your life. I'm so glad his family were able to be with him at the end as well. Flowers

No not just you. I cried in the kitchen just now listening to the radio. It isn’t a surprise, it was his time, he’s had a great life, contributed phenomenally to our nation, and he died surrounded with love hopefully feeling at peace, but it still has made me feel terribly sad - I feel like we still need him, like our society is hanging by a thread and this will dreadfully impact the general mood. We still need to be pulling together but it feels like everyone is just so exhausted and sad that no one has the determination to fight any more.
TheSparkleJar · 02/02/2021 16:31

He had an excellent innings, and what a last full year to cap it all off. His family must be very proud Flowers

Carolbaskinstiger · 02/02/2021 16:31

I’m one of the surprisingly upset too! I think I it’s what he represented. Combined with the relentless feeling of this lockdown it’s really got to me.
Oddly dh was just sat next to me and looked at his phone and said “oh no” and I just said “captain Tom’s died”? No idea why that was my first thought but that’s what it was.

Nonamesavail · 02/02/2021 16:32

What a sad bit of news. RIP xx

Els1e · 02/02/2021 16:32
