Announcement on Scottish schools tomorrow

Anyone from Scotland got any ideas on what might happen with schools going back in Scotland? Nicola Sturgeon is to be making an announcement tomorrow. I know my 17 year old would be delighted if they go back soon as she works better in the school environment.

Wonder how safe it will be!

I think they are looking at nurseries and Primary1's going back.

Dd is Primary1 I really hope they go back soon. I'm not cut out for teaching her😃

GoldenOmber · 01/02/2021 19:18

Hoping that whatever the announcement is, it isn’t yet another ‘let’s punt the return date another 2 weeks into the future without any more detail’.

Kaylasmum49 · 01/02/2021 19:20

When do you think that might be? My dd is in 6th year and is desperate to get back to seeing her friends and teachers.

I think it will be primary 1 for two weeks after the Feb break then more to follow two weeks after etc etc. I think it will be slow to all back .

I posted on another thread about this.. I feel more hopeful this time around that they might go back soon. Nicola Sturgeon said they would talk about the plan for testing in these environments too so I thought that make it sound like it was relatively soon. I think they’ll only consider the younger ones for now though. But may be wrong.

DumplingsAndStew · 01/02/2021 19:28

Why do people think the youngest would be prioritised for first return? Surely they're the ones that are least in need, as they have years to catch up.

Peppafrig · 01/02/2021 19:29

Schools are still open though so maybe testing in the environment is for that .

Alwaysandforeverhere · 01/02/2021 19:31

Prob Indy ref related or locking down for longer.

Because they need someone to sit and work with them constantly and can’t work independently . If you have a high school child they can navigate google classrooms etc but 4 and 5 years olds can’t . So If parents are working from home they can’t work and sit with the little ones constantly.

Wrong thread ignore me

Itsabloodybingthing · 01/02/2021 19:34

@Peppafrig you might be right. She’d said she’d provide information on “expanded arrangements for testing in those settings” so I’d assumed it was for when they started to open up.

Less likely to spread the virus than older children, can't work independently, hit hardest by earlier 'home learning' along with P7s/new S1s: www.heraldscotland.com/news/19009268.school-closures-p1-p2-pupils-among-worst-affected/

I don’t know why she stands up there dangling carrots and doesn’t just tell us I would rather she said nothing .

LoopyGremlin · 01/02/2021 19:38

My kids are upper primary. Was really hoping they would get back this month.

user1487194234 · 01/02/2021 19:38

Please let them get back to school ASAP

Itsabloodybingthing · 01/02/2021 19:39

@Peppafrig I know. I find myself dissecting each word to work out what it might possibly mean.

angelopal · 01/02/2021 19:40

Personally I think it will be Easter but hope I am wrong. Do you know if nurseries will be included in the announcement as also have a preschooler. Even if he went back and still homeschooling a P2 would he helpful.

I expect this is exactly what will happen 🙁
ParkheadParadise · 01/02/2021 19:40

Hopefully, this will be the last time schools are shut.

She said 'schools and early years' so here's hoping.
Itsabloodybingthing · 01/02/2021 19:42

@angelopal just looked at exactly what was said, on the government website and she did say early years

Itsabloodybingthing · 01/02/2021 19:42

Oops cross post

The youngest kids need someone to sit with them. They can't read competently enough. They are also in need of seeing kids their own age. Old kids can walk to a friends and knock the door or call to arrange to meet half way. LOs need someone to arrange for them.
weebarra · 01/02/2021 19:55

It's really tough. Mine are P3, P6 and S2 so not likely to be in the first tranche.
The S2 has Adhd so could go into one of the hubs and tbh it would really help, but I understand why he's not keen. At least DH and my work are both understanding but it's not easy. I personally think Easter but I hope I'm wrong.

ThePricklySheep · 01/02/2021 19:57

They said youngest, P7 and exam years I thought. Not sure where I read that though and it might change.
