This is a private pharma deal and not a trade deal

And not just any old big buck private pharma deal, a deal that was offered in good faith using a vaccine that was being offered at cost price and would be rolled out for the benefit of the whole world. This is the thanks AZ get for that😥

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 29/01/2021 22:27

On another note do you think boris is being shut in number 10 so he can't say too much . Its one of those situations it seems where minimal words seem best for now

JengaJanga · 29/01/2021 22:27

We warned them!

They have withdrawn Grin

Hazelnutlatteplease · 29/01/2021 22:28

@marbellamarc

not everyone can get the vaccine though despite being vulnerable.

You really dont need to tell me that. We are living it. DS is critically vulnerable and under 16. All I hope at the moment is that if he needs hospitalization theres beds available.

Herd Immunity is hopefully for the future. NHS now.

Good news on article 16

Michael Give spoke to the EU earlier
Frodont · 29/01/2021 22:30

*gove

Floppywin · 29/01/2021 22:32

Well yes good news - but could they let us know WHO accidentally invoked Article 16 - some accountability behind this huge Wizard of Oz machinery at the EU - who is to blame, please step forward?

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 29/01/2021 22:33

@Frodont thats a conversation would like to be a fly on the wall for

Frodont · 29/01/2021 22:34
@Frodont thats a conversation would like to be a fly on the wall for
They stood down from article 16 so it must have been some phone call

Floppywin · 29/01/2021 22:34

Just to be clear: I do not for one second believe it was accidental - so no-one will swallow that except for Blair and his cronies (who I expect has been on the phone pronto to explain quite how much they've shot themselves in the foot).

Alastair Campbell finally piping up on twitter after silence this "mistake" needs rectifying soon... ha ha they really think everyone is an idiot.

Sorry I thought you were disagreeing with me. The more vaccinated the better in my eyes.

CayrolBaaaskin · 29/01/2021 22:35

@TransplantedScouser

I want to know how Nicola sturgeon is going to back track on her support for the eu
What support for the EU? Do you mean that she wanted transparency in the supply chain after Boris accused her of sitting on the vaccines? Or do you mean her support for Scotland to remain in the EU?

I know.

Yet EU still tried to negotiate a cheaper price.

It's becoming more dispicable by the hour

marbellamarc · 29/01/2021 22:36

but could they let us know WHO accidentally invoked Article 16

So now there is global condemnation they are rowing back.

itsgettingweird · 29/01/2021 22:38

Well then dragging USA into it was bound to drag non EU counties to the fore.

EU has gone from making themselves look silly in EU to in the national stage in day.

And they said we'd regret leaving them Grin

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 29/01/2021 22:39

@CayrollBaaamskin I didn't think it was boris that asked her , thought he said not to publish . Wasn't it someone else . But she can't publish the whole uk I
Would doubt

FOJN · 29/01/2021 22:39

@MissConductUS

Most of the WSJ article is behind a paywall, would you posting the whole thing here?

Hazelnutlatteplease · 29/01/2021 22:40

Sorry I thought you were disagreeing with me. The more vaccinated the better in my eyes.

On the whole I agree. But I cant help thinking that if theres a vulnerable little boy somewhere the other side of the world in need of a vaccine I'd rather we all stayed in lockdown an extra 6months-1year so we got it out to them first than vaccinating the none vulnerable in society.

That said it wont happen that way. England will continue vaccinating based on the supplies we have in this country and the rest of the world will slowly catch up.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 29/01/2021 22:43

@Hazelnutlatteplease not licensed for kids yet plus its never how the world works and not just uk, other rich countries will catch up quite quick
No one else appears to be taking out gamble on doses , in two months it will be interesting to see how many people have had 2 doses in countries rather than just doses in general

marbellamarc · 29/01/2021 22:45

Yes unfortunately that's not how the world works. We already have children dying from things we routinely vaccinate against & famine when we have food waste.

Being in lockdown for a year wirh the destruction of jobs and impact on mental health also kills lives. But that’s a topic for another thread.
donewithitalltodayandxmas · 29/01/2021 22:52

Seen france borders looks like not to hauliers and thats fair enough can understand why borders are being closed , i think ages ago we should of all agreed to close borders for non essential travel, until we all got numbers down etc

Wildswim · 29/01/2021 22:53

Seeking to control the export of vaccines undercuts the EU's basic ethics. They need to work together with others.

Says the Archbishop of Canterbury in a tweet. Even he has waded in with mild criticism of the EU.

Ihatefish · 29/01/2021 22:53

@donewithitalltodayandxmas

He’s quite possibly been sedated just in case
Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/01/2021 22:56

What does the EU want to achieve from all this? ... What is their end goal?

To cover their backsides after their own incompetence

So now there is global condemnation they are rowing back

Too late I'm afraid; the world's now seen them for exactly what they are ... and who'd have thought, despite the endless abuse, that Leavers would see their vote fully justified quite so soon?
