@StephenBelafonte covax is a programme to help with this

IcedPurple · 29/01/2021 19:00

@deliciouschilli

The EU have gone stark raving mad!
They're making a fanatical bigot like Arlene Foster look like the adult in the room.

It's surreal.

Biscoffaddict · 29/01/2021 19:00

The EU have just fucked up haven’t they? I’m a staunch remainer but think they are acting like bullies over this. It’s not our fault they didn’t get their orders in on time. I think what they are really worried is other countries seeing how well we are doing and wanting out.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 29/01/2021 19:01

@StephenBelafonte I think it still needs more help

FOJN · 29/01/2021 19:01

They are our neighbours and they are having an equally hard time.

They're quite committed to trying to make sure life is much harder for us. Their behaviour has serious consequences which will extend beyond the pandemic,vaccine issues and national borders. I'd suggest they are now cultivating quite a dangerous and volatile situation. I'm no longer simply aghast at what they are doing I'm quite worried about how this might escalate. My sympathy for ordinary people remains but my contempt for the action on the EU Commission grows by the minute. They have lost their minds.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 29/01/2021 19:01

Our leftovers need to go to the EU. They are our neighbours and they are having an equally hard time.

Our leftovers need to go to countries that aren't able to procure doses for themselves and do not have as advanced health care services.

But its academic until there are leftover doses. Aztrazeneca still have a definite contract they need to fulfil with us.

What EU are showing is that is really only respects international agreements and contract law when it suits them. That's not an organisation I'd want to work with

I agree.
CountessFrog · 29/01/2021 19:03

You have no idea whether 100% want it, though!

🤣

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 29/01/2021 19:05

@CountessFrog is that aimed at me? No your right I don't which is why I didn't say 20% left it may be 2 it may be 10, but i do know several over 80's who are not having 2nd doses until march/ april

marbellamarc · 29/01/2021 19:06

How much has the EU donated?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 29/01/2021 19:06

Why doesn't the EU ask Germany to offer up what they secured for themselves?

Because that would involve targeting a country who are a full member of the EU - and the largest net donor at that - rather than one who isn't

The EU has overridden part of the Northern Ireland Brexit deal

Which shows clearly exactly what an "agreement" with the EU is worth, if it happens not to suit them

In all honesty is anyone even vaguely surprised??

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 29/01/2021 19:06

@CountessFrog and my point was we are a little away from having vaccinated just the vulnerable and having excess doses

Floppywin · 29/01/2021 19:07

I think it will escalate, but once the bluster has stopped its pants down in the headlights time for the Commission and everything it represents.

The countries that make up the EU, I'm not so worried about as they will have had the wool pulled from their eyes and hopefully see how their "ever closer union" leaves them vulnerable and unable to make decisions or remove from power those that are making the decisions.

PicsInRed · 29/01/2021 19:07

@CountessFrog

Can’t believe anyone thinks otherwise

Fuck them just as much as they try to fuck us.

They can piss off and sort themselves out.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 29/01/2021 19:07

@marbellamarc not sure , someone did post on another post

rossclare · 29/01/2021 19:08

Apologies - Novavax is due to be approved in a few weeks (but not yet).

HeyHeyImABeLeaver · 29/01/2021 19:08

Ive been trying sooooo hard and my hands have turned blue over the last few days due to my large butt sitting on them but I can’t any longer .........I (amongst a few others on MN) have been saying the EU are, amongst other things, bureaucratic, protectionist and hypocritical (do as I say not as I do has always been their modus operandi) for best part of 4 years and facing the brunt of many a hostile response (but I’ve got a thick skin so hey ho).

This is an exemplary example of them showing themselves up for what they really are.

And now the talk about Ireland!!

FFS they have properly list their minds.

The ramifications of this could be huge.

And I could cry for AZ - you try and and do some good globally by providing a vaccine at cost price for the whole world and you get treated like this.

Sorry for the rant, I’m going to pour myself a large Wine

MarshaBradyo · 29/01/2021 19:08

Yeh actually I agree

It should go to countries that need it most

Re pp - Maybe they’ll be our friend ;

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 29/01/2021 19:08

@Floppywin but posters on here who live in eu say many are not seeing it like this

IcedPurple · 29/01/2021 19:08

@marbellamarc

How much has the EU donated?

Only slightly more than the UK, despite having several times the population.
IcedPurple · 29/01/2021 19:09

@marbellamarc

🤣

The EU may unwittingly be doing what nobody else could do: unite all the different parties in Northern Ireland.
DamnUserName21 · 29/01/2021 19:09

@marbellamarc

Donations to Covax.

BBCONEANDTWO · 29/01/2021 19:10

I think that a lot of countries will decide to leave the EU - but I hope that NATO continues. Maybe it's easier to look after your own but work together for peace. It seems so long winded in the EU. I would really have imagined that Germany would have been almost vaccinated by now seeing their record etc - yet they are lagging behind. It's a shame how this is all going down.

marbellamarc · 29/01/2021 19:10

They are our neighbours and they are having an equally hard time.

Again it works both ways.
