According to this report, we will find out next week if children will be back in school straight after half term. What is your prediction?

We won't be in Wales, my mother in law is a head of a school here and local council are saying it will be Easter at the earliest

LadyCatStark · 21/01/2021 08:33

I so wish they would be but no, I think there’s no chance 😢.

CarlottaValdez · 21/01/2021 08:33

I’d be amazed. It looked possible for a while but the decline in infections seems to be slowing.

Nellodee · 21/01/2021 08:34

Sorry, OP, I just made a thread about this.

I think it means that we will definitely be opening immediately after Easter, because Gav will inform schools at 9pm on the last day of term. He's nothing if not consistent on these matters.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 21/01/2021 08:39

I think @Nellodee has it. Although I think planning a post Easter opening is wishful thinking on Williamson's front. May is more realistic

Crumpetycrump · 21/01/2021 08:42

The news is that schools will be given 2 weeks of notice before reopening but it will be dependent on hospitals being able to cope. We are no where near that sadly.

borageforager · 21/01/2021 08:43

No chance!

feelingquitehopeful · 21/01/2021 08:44

We will reach the peak this week and early next week. If the infection rate continues to drop, as it is now doing, I can't see in a month's time why we can't start to reopen schools. I suspect it will be done region by region.

DayBath · 21/01/2021 08:46

I don't think the infections will have dropped enough.

So yes the government will reopen them because they are incompetent arseholes who rush in to decisions, resulting in lots of half done lockdowns instead of one big proper one to get it over and done with.

ineedaholidaynow · 21/01/2021 08:47

Our local schools are assuming Easter and are making contingency plans for being open over the holidays for KW and vulnerable children

Bagelsandbrie · 21/01/2021 08:49

I think we are more likely to be looking at March at least.

manicinsomniac · 21/01/2021 08:53

This actually gives me less hope that we'll go back after half term. I did think there was a good chance we'd get at least some year groups back. But we need another 3-4 weeks to see the infection levels fall more and maybe deaths start to fall. In 1-2 weeks there won't be big enough drops so if the decision has to be made then I thinks going to be a 'no'.

Gliblet · 21/01/2021 08:54

DS's primary school has just temporarily closed entirely to all but the children of a very small, very specific list of professionals (teachers not included, no idea how they're managing to stay sane and keep working bless them), so I'd say it's unlikely they'll be in a position to open up to more children in just two weeks.

3littlewords · 21/01/2021 08:55

Theres more chance of winning the euro millions than being told next week schools will open a further 2 weeks later

DenisetheMenace · 21/01/2021 08:56

Suspect Easter here in the NW.

Itisasecret · 21/01/2021 08:57

Yeah, they won’t.

Boxachocs · 21/01/2021 08:58

Half term here is 15th Feb, which means schools would go back on Monday 22nd Feb. 2 weeks notice means the latest they could say they are opening is Feb 8th.

barbites · 21/01/2021 08:59

Why can't years 11 and 13 go back? Let them have a decent chance at their GCSES and A Levels (whatever format they are in) Other years aren't as critical...

Kitcat122 · 21/01/2021 09:02

So schools can open when hospitals have more space....... No talk of safety measures then.

2boysand1princess · 21/01/2021 09:02

According to headlines this morning the infection rate is not decreasing at the rate they were expecting. Which is worrying, but hardly surprising considering so many people still working and kids going to school.
FoolsAssassin · 21/01/2021 09:04

I was just reading the growing list of schools with cases in our local area before seeing this thread - not looking very under control here at the moment.

Hope4theBestPlan4theWorst · 21/01/2021 09:05

I think they need to prioritise teachers for vaccines first!
But no I think Easter in Nottinghamshire/Lincolnshire boarder
Our hospitals are nearly full to capacity it's scary times.

Local schools here are also lookin at keyworker holiday provision as so many NHS staff have had holidays cancelled they needed for childcare over the holidays!

Lifeispassingby · 21/01/2021 09:05

How do you work that out? Gavin Williamson has said will get 2 weeks notice- but that’s not next week, half term isn't 3 weeks away?

ineedaholidaynow · 21/01/2021 09:06

Bubbles still bursting here

YesIDoLoveCrisps · 21/01/2021 09:11

Children won’t go back until at least after Easter. The government won’t tell anyone what going on. There might be a very late announcement ‘schools go back tomorrow’ so the teachers have hours to arrange everything again. ☹️ That’s just my opinion, maybe I am wrong
