Just been notified to isolate via track and trace app

I’ve just had an alert on my phone to isolate until the 21st from the NHS track and trace app. Counting back the days for 10 days isolation I was in Morrison’s supermarket on Tuesday.

I’m due in work on Monday and have emailed my line manager and the headteacher with a screen shot and to ask them what they want me to do. Legally you are not obliged to isolate unless notified by the track and trace team and I suspect I’ll be told to go to work (in a school covering keyworker children).

I’m currently fine, no temp, I have a mild backache and I’m tired but that due to homeschooling!

What have other people done who received an alert? Did your employer support isolation? Rates are really high in my area and I’m reluctant to ignore the alert but I also need my job (single parent).

Our head has allowed everyone with an alert to complete the isolation in full pay. They teach from home and another member of staff is in the room with the class (it has meant we have all done a huge amount of cover, but what can you do?)

Zofloramummy · 16/01/2021 23:28

@Whyarewehardofthinking I’m support staff, I’m already working from home providing welfare calls to several students with ALN and some are requiring daily support.

Fingers crossed my head does the same, although when I had problems getting a keyworker place myself at dd’s school the first week of lockdown it did not go down well Blush

I would expect the school to support you; across our MAT we have just followed all isolation guidance as we can't increase the risk in school at all.

Neolara · 16/01/2021 23:34

If you're already working from home, can't you just carry on doing this?

DelphiniumBlue · 16/01/2021 23:39

Get yourself a test. I had really bad backache for a few days with Covid, and anecdotally, so do lots of people. Tiredness is a very common symptom.
If you're working from home, you can carry on doing that while isolating, provided you feel well enough.

You took the words right out of my mouth

I havent had Covid, but hearing from people I know who have had it they mentioned having backache, some had backache first before the other well known covid symptoms materialised.

AutoIncorrect · 16/01/2021 23:48

Tiredness and headache were my first symptoms...

bobbiester · 16/01/2021 23:51

You've been told to isolate. Just isolate. It's pretty simple.

No point in getting a test unless you have symptoms. A negative test won't mean you can stop isolating as it can take a while to develop COVID.

I’m already working from home

So you are not due in to work? You are simply, working? There is no reason this should change, surely?

frustrationcentral · 17/01/2021 00:00

Back ache and tiredness seems to be the common symptom amongst anyone I've known with Covid, I'd book a test

SlippersForFlippers · 17/01/2021 00:02

Let them know you've been told to isolate, continue to work from home if you feel well enough. If you get symptoms and become too ill to work let them know that you won't be in.

CrocodilesCry · 17/01/2021 00:05

If you're already working from home why is it an issue?
I had to self isolate in November for 10 days, I carried on working as normal from home.

TheoriginalLEM · 17/01/2021 00:06

Myself and DP both had backache with Covid. Our backs are bad anyway so we didnt pay heed amongst the rest of the shitness but then a friend also said her DD had backache. Covid can affect the kidneys.

You really do need to isolate, your employer must support this. Imagine if you spread thus amongst keyworker children, you'll feel awful.

Heartofglass12345 · 17/01/2021 00:07

It would've been Monday 11th not Tuesday if you've been told to isolate until the 21st. How did they know you were there? Do they track your whereabouts on the app? Is it possible you were there but youve been identified as a contact of someone who has been in the shop but you might not have been near them? Or do you know who it was?

Do you understand how the app works Hmm

It's been triggered because the OP was in the vicinity of someone who has tested positive. She will not know who this person was.

OP if you look in the settings of the app it will give you the exact exposure date but not the time or location (it didn't when I had to SI and that could only have been from a shop as it's the only place I went to that day)

Heartofglass12345 · 17/01/2021 00:11

Sorry I've just checked and it says this and answered my own question lol
Close contact’ means that your phone has been within 2 metres for 15 minutes or more with the phone of someone who has tested positive for coronavirus.

If you've been told to isolate then you have to by law. I don't think track and trace will be in contact in that instance.

Heartofglass12345 · 17/01/2021 00:12

No need for the Hmm I've just corrected myself!
I didn't know that was how it worked as I don't go anywhere so don't use it.

ThatBitch · 17/01/2021 04:13

People at DH's work who've been told to isolate are simply working from home unless unwell, I'm unsure why you wouldn't just continue? If you feel unwell then you need to test.

EmmanuelleMakro · 17/01/2021 04:53

Surely your phone would not be within 2metres for 15 mins in Morrisons?

RememberSelfCompassion · 17/01/2021 05:02

My dad had a track and trace alert that couls only have been from a supermarket. So seemingly so. I cant think the checkout queue was 15min but maybe its cummulative if theyre not 2m away as they walk round?

Im not in supermarkets but had assumed a level of distancing so did wonder how. Ive heard of others but he's the only one I know closely.

2020BogOff · 17/01/2021 06:09

Are you expected in work or still working at home. Like others I am confused.

If WAH you just carry on as normal. I am WAH and it was business as normal when I had to isolate with DH testing positive except I couldn't leave the house.

yearinyearout · 17/01/2021 06:33

Maybe the OP has to go in to work next week even though she's been wfh previously? Many teaching and support staff are in school on a rota caring for key worker children and wfh at other times.

I did read the other day that the app isn't accurate enough, and that Bluetooth can pick up another phone up to 9 metres away (it can't measure the distance) so that's not very useful with T&T. I suppose in a supermarket doing a full shop you could have someone come in behind you and basically follow the same route around the shop, and easily be within Bluetooth reach for 15 min.

JanuaryChill · 17/01/2021 06:46

I imagine OP means she's rota'd to supervise KW children one day next week.

The app is cumulative, so it could have been lots of little contacts, yes.

doggygal · 17/01/2021 06:57

I thought if you were wearing a mask then it was different rules

JanuaryChill · 17/01/2021 07:00

Only if it's fit tested like NHS staff on frontline have I think
