If you had chest issues as an early sign, what did it feel like?

I've been feeling really run down and coldy this last few days but didn't really think anything of it. Today however, I've developed a painful chest. It feels almost bruised and is most noticeable when I breathe in or when I pick DS up.
I don't feel particularly breathless and I don't have a cough, but DH is worried it could be the start of it.
I haven't read about anybody experiencing something similar with Covid and thought it's more likely that lump of a DS and my terrible lifting technique is more likely behind it but thought I'd ask here to see if anyone has had similar?

Watching with interest as I've developed exactly the same thing today. Praying it's a cold.

ToHellinahandbasket · 12/01/2021 16:37

@Orangesarenottheonlyfruit me too! fingers crossed for you too.
The last time I went anywhere was the 4th for a doctor's appointment, so I don't think I'm out of the symptom window yet :-/

Yes I had a hospital appointment on the 7th. I was really careful though.
Fingers crossed.

ToHellinahandbasket · 12/01/2021 16:40

Me too. It's such an odd feeling, I've never had anything like it before. I hope it's not Covid as starting off with chest symptoms doesn't seem particularly great :-/

I haven't (knowlingly) had covid, but I do remember in the first wave, when it was still unknown, lots of people talking about a heaviness in their chest, and it is listed as a possible symptom, along with a tight chest.
Sorry - probably not what you want to hear!

quiteathome · 12/01/2021 16:51

The only way to find out is to test. I had a runny nose as first symptom.

quiteathome · 12/01/2021 16:52

Chest pain wise- it came and went. Felt burning/ achy

pleasefeedthecat · 12/01/2021 16:57

I had a persistent dry cough and I felt as though a large cat was sitting on my chest at night when I was lying down.

U8myufo · 12/01/2021 17:11

Like someone was pressing down on my chest. Although I had the cough before the chest discomfort

ToHellinahandbasket · 12/01/2021 17:12

Thank you that’s how I feel like someone is pressing down on my chest but only when I breathe in

I had chest discomfort usually on exertion, didn't know what it could be, I didn't even have a cough. Then developed temperature and headache in the evening, went for a tear the next day, positive result 48 hours later
I'm on my third week now and just starting to feel better, now youngest has developed a cough
Fed up of living in self isolation

ginandwineandbaileys · 12/01/2021 17:23

I also felt extremely tired, I couldn't get enough sleep

ToHellinahandbasket · 12/01/2021 17:27

@ginandwineandbaileys that sounds awful poor you. Did you get it quite badly then? X

Strange as I've woken up today with the same thing - like I've pulled a muscle in my chest so hurts when I make certain movements but ok when I breathe. I had a test last Thursday (invited by the Zoe app) and it came back negative. Not been anywhere since! I presumed I'd pulled a muscle piggy backing DD yesterday for about 10 seconds. Confused

I'd say I got off quite lightly. Although I was very ill for around four days, then just fatigue. I had a few nights of night sweats and one particular night where I couldn't stop shaking.

RealisticSketch · 12/01/2021 18:02

Good friend of mine said similar, no cough etc just was 'more aware' of her breathing. In fact she didn't qualify for a test technically not having cough etc but she had a hunch and it came back positive.

TrashedWarrior · 12/01/2021 18:05

Weird; pulled muscles inside chest/ shoulder blades etc here too. Just popped up yesterday Confused

Teacher, we have cases at school but not my bubble.

Fembot123 · 12/01/2021 18:11

My sister said it was like having wet sand in her chest, worse when lying down.

StarNights · 12/01/2021 18:22

Get a test!
I tested positive last week and currently unwell with it.
Initially it was just a niggling uncomfortable tight feeling in my chest, slight dry cough and achey limbs. But there was something odd about it that I couldn't put my finger on, so I got a test.
Since then, lots more tiredness and aches, weird sneezing, headaches, sore throat, cough, pain in chest.

ToHellinahandbasket · 12/01/2021 20:19

Feel better soon @StarNights hope you’re starting to be on the mend
I’ll see if I can get a postal test

For me it was like how it feels when I'm lying on my back in bed and my cat thinks it's a great idea to make herself comfy on my chest. So it feels very difficult to get the air into your lungs, as if there's a kind of resistance you've just never felt before.

kalidasa · 12/01/2021 20:30

Yes I had it back in March/April, quite badly, and the tight/sore/weird chest was pretty much my first symptom. I agree it's odd that they've stopped talking about this as much.

itsgettingweird · 12/01/2021 20:31

I felt like someone had tied a band around my chest where my breasts are.

It felt heavy and painful.

itsgettingweird · 12/01/2021 20:34

Was my first symptom too after a really sore throat. Then cough for a day, then loss of smell and then temperature.

3 days if this (probably around day 18). Then about 6 weeks where I was just knackered and probably couldn't have written my name if you asked me!

ToHellinahandbasket · 12/01/2021 20:35

I think I'll get a test. It can't hurt and as we have a support bubble I don't want to put anyone else at risk or further the spread unknowingly if I do have it. Thanks for the advice and descriptions!
