Just that really. Am hearing all these stories about people who haven't been anywhere but have somehow got it etc. I know a fair few people who have had it but it's been pretty obvious where they picked it up (work, public transport, school and so on). I'm kind of freaking out about even leaving my flat at all at the moment!

I'm interested in the answers for this, because before Xmas this board was rife with people who'd just tested positive. I assume this is due to spread in secondary schools in particular. There's been a few 'I'm positive' posts today but nothing like the number around Xmas.

Personally I know of 3/4 people who have it right now (in the last week) compared to almost 20, maybe more around Xmas. Including loads of my family. I'm in Essex so it's rife.

Catplanter · 10/01/2021 18:19

I do see people saying they're really surprised they've got it as they've been so careful but then on closer questioning it turns out they have kids at school, or their partner does not wfh, or they go to the supermarket.

So sick of “we’ve not been ANYWHERE! Obviously other than work, dropping the kids at school or popping to the supermarket...”

The 2 families I personally know at the moment either got it from school (kids asymptomatic but passed it on) or from supermarket. In our primary 8 families in another class to ours had it over Christmas hols.

Family of someone at work was from Christmas Day meet up & both sets then positive.

Bagelsandbrie · 10/01/2021 18:57

I reckon loads of people get it from the supermarket from being too close to other people.

2021welcome · 10/01/2021 18:59

My friend caught it from sharing a car with a colleague. His girlfriend had been out partying with friends the week before.

Porcupineintherough · 10/01/2021 19:29

From my 15 year old. Who caught it at school.

Virginvodkaandcoke · 10/01/2021 22:55

2 friends caught it this week. One from their child in nursery the other from their child who attended reception on Monday before the schools closed.

Floobydo · 10/01/2021 22:59

My colleague caught it from a child at school on Monday. So frustrating, that was a completely avoidable infection.

tangoboxing · 10/01/2021 23:17

hospital (patient), care home (2 people), work (hospital)

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 10/01/2021 23:41

Got it at work (hospital) and DH got it from me

Huge outbreaks of staff and patients all the time at work now. All the patients and 17 staff on our ward. Lots and lots of other wards just the same with staff dropping like flies.
Imagine how many people at home all those infected hospital staff go on to infect.

Honestly if you know any hospital staff who haven't already had it I'd avoid us like the plague. I am not at all convinced that the wonders of PPE will stop us getting it and passing it on.

Work and school

GandalfTheNoble · 11/01/2021 00:29

I care for my parents. My parents hadn't been out for months (CEV) and nor have I (also CEV). On line shopping / wfh / seen no friends / no school age friends.

I believe my dad got it from one set of the 5 sets of paramedics who came to assist him.

He died.

SunnyNights · 11/01/2021 15:14

Had it in December and caught it from DS who got it from a child in a class at senior school

ohsuzannah · 11/01/2021 15:17

@GandalfTheNoble that is so sad Sad

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 11/01/2021 15:18

@GandalfTheNoble
I’m so sorry.

YippeeKayakOtherBuckets · 11/01/2021 15:20

Dh amd I both had it at the same time which makes me think it was one of the kids.

I was working (hospitality) until Xmas day but if I’d caught it at work DH would have got it later from me. So I think we both got infected from one of the dc at the same time. Kids all completely symptom free so we’ll never know.

Lampzade · 11/01/2021 15:23

My son or daughter brought it home from school.

Lottie4 · 11/01/2021 15:25

Three people I know have tested positive in the last few days.

Two are my Uncle and Aunt from household mixing with DS and DIL at Xmas. DU and DA haven't seen anyone else for weeks. We suspect their DS and DIL have been household mixing as their two DDs, one BIL and three GC have it.

My BIL also positive. He definitely got it from work as they've had 10/48 go down with it. He's been wearing ppe (compulsory at all times on premises) having his break outside separate from colleagues. His DD now coughing so awaiting results.

Lampzade · 11/01/2021 15:25

@GandalfTheNoble- so sorry

Mummyratbag · 11/01/2021 15:25

GandalfTheNoble - that is heartbreaking, I'm so sorry.

punnetofgrapes · 11/01/2021 15:26

Probably supermarket or work (no school age kids). Kids 22&23 live with us both negative, parents had weekend away with us before we tested positive both negative. We are the only people we know who have had it!! It appears that we didn’t pass it to anyone we know ??

FrankiesKnuckle · 11/01/2021 15:27

From work. As around 70% of us have at work. I'm a paramedic, 2 close colleagues have died. Several are in ITU. Several more have been dx with long covid.
