Getting a takeaway Costa Coffee at the hospital?

Funkypolar · 10/01/2021 17:22

At my last midwife appointment, my midwife told me to treat myself to a Costa on my way home from the cafe downstairs. I’ve read on Mumsnet today that buying a takeaway coffee is bad and I’m murdering grannies by getting a coffee (or possibly a hot chocolate).

Who is right - my midwife or Mumsnet? I had a Black Forest hot chocolate and it was delicious, highly recommended.

But you were there anyway- you didn't travel to the hospital to get a Costa, surely?

JazzyGeoff · 10/01/2021 17:25

Disclaimer, I haven't seen any granny offing takeaway coffee threads

Funkypolar · 10/01/2021 17:26

I was on site having my appointment. I have another one coming up - is it safe to get a coffee?

I'm sure the grannies won't mind. Get a cake as well!!

Bagelsandbrie · 10/01/2021 17:28

You were there anyway, you had an essential appointment. I think that’s fine. It wouldn’t be fine if 200 or so people travelled 100 or so miles to go to a costa just because they fancied a coffee and queued up and chatted to each other outside. Spread out and with careful social distancing I think these things are okay.

Exactly. As I say, I haven't seen any granny coffee threads, but I would've thought any objections were about people travelling specifically to get a Costa? So not comparable to your situation anyway 🤷‍♀️
LubaLuca · 10/01/2021 17:31

Obviously you apply common sense Confused

ChessIsASport · 10/01/2021 17:31

You seem obsessed. If I were you I would take a break from thinking about Covid. This can’t be doing you any good.

XenoBitch · 10/01/2021 17:32

You were there anyway. Your midwife was 100% correct on this one. And that that particular hot chocolate is lush. Enjoy :)

Greysparkles · 10/01/2021 17:34

We've had people wanting to come into our hospital just to get a Costa
It's unbelievable

FelicityPike · 10/01/2021 17:34

Do you mean are you allowed to drink coffee? Or are you asking if you’re ok to buy a Costa?
Because both answers are....obviously!!

EachandEveryone · 10/01/2021 17:39

Well isn’t this akin to be picking one up on a morning on the way to work? I work it the hospital. I don’t get this thread.

Funkypolar · 10/01/2021 17:40

Because in other posts people are saying coffee shops should be shut because they spread disease.

OP posts:
RockingMyFiftiesNot · 10/01/2021 17:42

I know of people who maintain that they have caught Covid from takeaway cups 'as it's the only place they could have caught it'. Whilst I very much doubt that to be the case, a lot if people are still very cautious about takeaway cups. I think the risk is minimal, especially if you take the usual precautions.

Granny coffee? Is that one with cream, a squirt of Covid sauce and 2 pumps of granny killing syrup? Grin

HK92 · 10/01/2021 17:52

Oh my. Common sense. If you want a costa whilst you are at the hospital get a costa. If you don't want one then don't!!!! Mumsnet has literally gone insane! I hope this is a joke!

Musicaldilemma · 10/01/2021 17:53

The Coronavirus board on here has gone crazy...

In lockdown 1, aka March 2020, many pregnant women would have not gone to Costa coffee but dashed out of hospital at lightning speed, because they would have been SCARED to catch the virus, scared for themselves, their unborn babies, families etc. The reason most people were scared - well it was an unknown virus, images from Wuhan/Italy like apocalypse movies. It is the same reason many keyworkers kept their kids home and didn’t send them to school.

A year on, people feel differently. No matter how much this government tries to lockdown that isn’t going to change. Most people are following the rules but taking a tiny little bit more of a risk, like a Costa coffee, having their cleaner come, fix their leaky toilet which isn’t a real emergency, but one can argue it is. As a result, the numbers are just not going to go down. It is that simple. It isn’t about big house parties and rule breakers, it is about everyone getting a hot chocolate. It doesn’t make you a granny killer OP, you are just acting how government scientist predicted back in March. Let’s hope the vaccine is rolled out quickly...

Mumsnet keeps telling me I’m killing people by leaving the house, is it any wonder so many of us are confused. Sad

They haven't said that though OP, have they.

TheQueef · 10/01/2021 17:57

I think you need a break from mumsnet.

Spodge · 10/01/2021 17:57

Whaaaaat?! You had a non-essential hot drink?

Give over, you're not confused at all. You're bored and poking the bear.

Mumsnet (or the wider internet) isn’t a single sentiment being that can ‘tell’ you anything Hmm

Work on your self-worth and trust your own conclusions.

That is just a few people (and they are cockwombles for making you feel bad for something that is A-OK), plus you notice the criticism more if it is about something you are doing. Ignore them, enjoy your Costa. In fact, keep on buying them when you are at the hospital. That way Costa will see it is financially viable to stay open, and the over worked staff can also enjoy them too Smile
Waspnest · 10/01/2021 18:01

Did no-one pay you enough attention on the shopping thread?
