As a nurse whose worked during Covid I really feel that this episode of Casualty really summed up how we've felt during the pandemic. I found it really heart wrenching and think everyone should watch it.

Yes! I said this to my mum - that playing on big screens would have far more of an impact than boris waffling on.

Taskmasterlover · 07/01/2021 18:19

Yeah it really would. I've not watched casualty in years but I thought it was done so well and they'd clearly spoken to doctors and nurses about their feelings.

And all the patients being traumatised? The dying people being forced to die completely alone with staff who don't even have two minutes to bother to tell them what's going on? The patients who are resorting to trying to care for other patients on their ward because the staff are ignoring them?

This is what I experienced as a patient. Why the fuck is this not being talked about? Why does nobody give a shit about the harm being inflicted on patients?

You know, patients being the reason hospitals exist?

The tragedy is what is happening to the patients.

chickychicchic · 07/01/2021 18:31

Yes yes yes I thought it was really good and very eye opening.

I am an avid casualty watcher lol

june2007 · 07/01/2021 18:34

Well no. I wathced it and it felt too close to home. I want escapism and entertainment. Not feal like I am watching an episode of hispital.

vodkaredbullgirl · 07/01/2021 18:38

It was very moving, had me in tears.

itsgettingweird · 07/01/2021 18:43

I will watch it.

Respect to all in the NHS.

And respect to Simon Stephens this evening on presser who was very outspoken about the deniers disrespect.

june2007 · 07/01/2021 18:47

Rather then wathich Casualty watch the latest series of hospital if you haven,t already.

Orf1abc · 07/01/2021 18:49

I think Casualty was the right programme to do it, because many viewers feel that they 'know' the characters.

It's a shame that june thinks her entertainment is more important than raising awareness of the challenges NHS staff are facing.

Grandtheft · 07/01/2021 18:53

It was very good, I'm glad they did it definitely. I wish at least some of the deniers might think twice..

Grandtheft · 07/01/2021 18:54

Lemonpiano

Didn't bother?? Maybe they are so overworked and overwhelmed that they couldn't give you the time you might have liked??

yankeedoodledandee · 07/01/2021 18:55

I was really affected by it, what an amazing job everyone involved with bringing that episode to us did. It really was incredible viewing.

I think it hit so hard because it was supposed to be set in the past, when it was filmed in September they didn't foresee where we are now; but it just brought it home how absolutely horrific things are and how incredible our NHS is.

june2007 · 07/01/2021 18:57

I don,t need to be made aware. My siter works on a ward, she told me everyone on the ward is positive and so are the nurses, ncluding those who have had the first vaccine.

Bimbleboo · 07/01/2021 18:58

@Grandtheft I wish I agreed but I think most people who don’t want to know, will turn off anything that mentions covid immediately. Because they just don’t want to hear it.

(I know some people will also do this because it’s better for their mental health and I’m not shaming anyone for that! I stay well informed but I don’t think I could watch the casualty episode because my anxiety would not cope. Am very glad it’s been out out there regardless)

I more mean the deniers will just avoid it. I’m not sure it will enlighten them.

I'm glad as a nurse it felt "accurate", I had to watch in tow parts whilst distracting myself and I still cried

What every single dr and nurse on the ward is positive? Why are they at work then?
AbbeyBelfast · 07/01/2021 19:02

Watching now, about 15 mins in and it's already very intense

MawkishHawk · 07/01/2021 19:03

It’s not so much don’t want to hear it, as just trying to keep going, get through each day one day at a time with our own jobs and lives and responsibilities, and just do not have any spare emotional capacity to devote to an upsetting dramatisation right now - every real day is upsetting enough.

DP put this on the other night but I had to switch it off. Just can’t cope with anything like that right now, I can’t indulge in it, I can barely cope with each day of reality and need to spend the hour or so I have spare before falling asleep in relaxation or escapism, or I’ll implode.

Grandtheft · 07/01/2021 19:06

Bimbleboo

Yes you are probably right sadly.

I cried my eyes out, felt exhausted afterwards

june2007 · 07/01/2021 19:08

Not doctors but a[parently most of the nurses.

TwirlingTwizzler · 07/01/2021 19:08

I agree, it was the most emotional episode I've ever watched. Free flowing tears here, even dh who never normally gets emotional was snuffling.

AbbeyBelfast · 07/01/2021 19:14

Hyperbole second hand gossip nonsense!
gottastopeatingchocolate · 07/01/2021 19:15

Very hard watch, very well done.

JessicaHyde · 07/01/2021 19:21

Nah you are alright I imagine it is overblown schmaltz shit. I loved the first couple of series of hospital, why did they change it from following a patient, to blurring everyone out and following the unit? Tbf I gave up quite soon, did it revert back to usual?

Grandtheft · 07/01/2021 19:34

JessicaHyde Hmm perhaps you should have watched it all
