If you lost your sense of smell

when did it happen? I had my first symptoms 9 days ago and tested positive 4 days ago. A lot of my major symptoms have died down (muscle aches, eye pain, bunged nose) but I suddenly can't smell anything this morning. I thought if this happened it would be at the start Sad

When did you lose yours and when did it come back?

My wife lost her smell after 3 days of testing positive

Ele38 · 07/01/2021 10:14

Hi when you say muscle pain what do you mean by that as 2 days ago my lower back was really painful going down my bum and top of leg, has anyone had something similar and tested positive. Thank you

Kylorey · 07/01/2021 10:17

Day 4 of feeling unwell, was the symptom that prompted me to test as not had cough or fever at that stage. Also lost taste. Taste is a back a bit, smell still mostly gone. It's been nearly 3 weeks

My muscle pains were initially all over. Went away, and then it was my bum and legs - really badly and kept me awake one night

loosing smell prompted a test as before that i just felt like i was getting a mild cold, but if that was symptoms i was getting was at least 5 days before smell went. Thankfully mostly back after about a week. Annoyingly lost it on 23rd December so couldn't taste anything i ate on Christmas day!

MissSmiley · 07/01/2021 12:34

In our house (7 people) losing smell was after about a week, most had it return after 4-5 days

mistletoeandsigh · 07/01/2021 14:44

That's good, I think I'm ok with it as long as it doesn't go on too long. I can still taste things.

I lost my sense of smell and taste two weeks ago, still hasn’t come back.

I had a cup of tea earlier and if I had been blindfolded I would not have able to tell you what it was, just warm liquid.

I’ve had the pains down my back and into my legs now I’m on the pure exhaustion stage and constant diarrhoea. So thats fun.

I have no idea how long I can go on like this, I’m supposed to be back at work Monday or at least working from home and I have total brain fuzz.

mistletoeandsigh · 07/01/2021 16:08

ohbuggeroffcovid do your ears feel all blocked and weird too? My head feels very strange today. This virus has lots of symptoms Sad

Mine wasn't a first symptom either. I initially had a headache on Boxing Day and then nauseous on 27th with a low grade fever. I didn't lose my taste or smell until 1st/2nd or and finally got a positive test result back around then too. It's nearly two weeks since my first symptoms and I'm still suffering fatigue, loss of taste/smell, dizziness and brain fog. OP - hope you are back to normal soon!

Bambam2019 · 07/01/2021 17:16

Losing taste and smell were what prompted me to get a test, they were my first symptom. Aside from headaches and coughing about 3 times I didn’t actually have any others, it was around 2 weeks before smell and taste came back for me:

CortisolandCaffeine · 07/01/2021 17:16

Yep - same here. Loss of smell came about 4 days after initial symptoms, disappointingly just as I was starting to feel a bit better. That was about 28th December. It’s now about 80% back I reckon.

SmartyPants0 · 07/01/2021 17:25

"Hi when you say muscle pain what do you mean by that as 2 days ago my lower back was really painful going down my bum and top of leg, has anyone had something similar and tested positive. Thank you"

This... my first symptom was aching lower back, hips and thighs. I tested positive 7 days ago. Today I have lost my sense of taste other than that no real symptoms.

cassgate · 07/01/2021 17:26

My only symptom was loss of taste and smell on Xmas Eve. My smell has just started to return (exactly 14 days later) and I can now taste coffee but not much else.

LegoPirateMonkey · 07/01/2021 17:28

My sense of smell didn’t go until I started to feel better, ten days or so in. I really, really miss it and hope it comes back soon!

worriedcovidmum · 07/01/2021 17:34

My sense of smell went late at night on day 7, I'm day 9 now and have some very very faint smells for sweet things but other things nothing! I thought I would have lost it earlier too as I read it was the first symptom for lots of people. I'm hoping it comes back and I don't lose taste too.
For everyone saying about back pain - I had a really sore back days 2&3 like I'd been doing heavy lifting rather than a fluey pain.

Ohbuggeroffcovid · 07/01/2021 17:52

Yes my head feels really fuzzy like I’m a bit pissed or not properly woken up yet.

I would really like my taste to come back. I’m exhausted and have slept most of the day, I’m not sure how I can operate next week enough to be back at work.

HarrietOh · 07/01/2021 17:57

I had a headache and 24 hours later lost my sense of smell. They were the only two symptoms I had.

whereisthejoy · 18/01/2021 19:43

How are you doing @mistletoeandsigh ? Hoping some sense of smell came back for you. Mine took at least 2 weeks maybe a bit longer, I don't think it's as strong as it used to be, and my DH's seems to have come and go a bit. I feel so bad for him x

Popfan · 18/01/2021 19:51

It was my last symptom- after about day 10 and 2 days after my temperature went. It came back after a week. I had it pretty mildly. It's a very strange virus

Covidwoes · 18/01/2021 20:08

Still not fully back 9 weeks later! It's definitely better than it was, but not back to normal.

mistletoeandsigh · 18/01/2021 22:52

@whereisthejoy it seems to be returning gradually! I lost it about 12 days ago... and it seems that I can smell a bit more each day! Certain soft smells like my deodorant, I can't pick up at all. Hopefully it'll be back to normal soon!

CovidJabToday · 18/01/2021 22:56

My smell was the last thing to come back. Took months to return to near- normal :(

I'll.never take smell for granted again! Hated having no sense of smell.
