Lockdown until 31st March

Rosebel · 06/01/2021 11:51

What a fucking surprise,. Story popped up on my news feed saying lockdown could easily last until 31st March.
Lied to again. Thought it was meant to be February. Okay it doesn't say it will last that long but why else would they be voting on it?
Not surprised just fucking fuming that Boris is desperate to fuck up my daughter's education. Got one in Y10 who although is in school is obviously not getting the full lesson. Also have one in Y8 who hasn't caught up from first lockdown yet.
Don't reckon school will open fully at all this academic year

@Orf1abc

It will last so long because it's not a proper lockdown. Half measures drag things out, and actually do far more damage to the economy than a brief, more restrictive lockdown.
Exactly this.

We always have half measures. I'm so mad at the government, they haven't even used the time during the last lockdowns to actually plan something and fix things.

Silvercatowner · 06/01/2021 12:33

I can't be the only one who reads thread titles like that, thinks 'oh fuuuuuuck' and completely panics thinking there's been an announcement. When there really hasn't been, you are just speculating and being drawn in to endless media speculation.

Manzanilla55 · 06/01/2021 12:34

I knew it was going to be until April since I have learned common sense prevails over anything the government tells us. They must think we are gullible and easily appeased lol.

GabsAlot · 06/01/2021 12:43

its a story not a statement and they really dont know themselves yet

LazyName · 06/01/2021 12:43

I really don’t understand why people are so surprised? The rates are higher than ever and you think things will be ok in a couple of months Confused

Rosehip10 · 06/01/2021 12:47

Grow up with your "lied to" OP - a review in mid February was promised, it was never stated lockdown will be over by then.

Fizbosshoes · 06/01/2021 12:49

A lot of people seemed to think the first lockdown would be 3 weeks when they said they would review in 3 weeks...
I think
a) becuae it would be unplatable to say we're locking down for x months and
b) because they can't know exactly what will happen and when number will fall
I think thats what they are doing here. I heard them say schools will be closed (and lockdown) until at least February half term....so potentially longer.
What is half measured for those who want a harsher lockdown? what is left to close (except maybe garden centres and children nurseries)

Who lied?

I see nobody with a functioning crystal ball.

Hope for the best, plan for the worst.

KatherineJaneway · 06/01/2021 13:01

Lied to again.

No you weren't. The press conference was clear it would be reviewed mid-February, at no time did they give a definitive end date.

Chloemol · 06/01/2021 13:03

Oh get lost with your typical NN hysterical post

Furries · 06/01/2021 13:15

@Orf1abc

They haven’t lied, people just haven’t listened/read properly.

And the government gaslighting has started already. Always someone else's fault.

It’s becoming a bit annoying when gaslighting keeps getting thrown out there, when it’s actually a case of people not listening properly or hearing/interpreting things as to what they want to hear.

Is the situation ever-changing? Yes
Is it frustrating, depressing, causing multiple personal problems for many? Yes
We’re we promised it would be over by mid-Feb? No

garden centres click and collect shops-i really dontg think dunelm is an essential shop-it should be online only

or phone orders and deliveries

canigooutyet · 06/01/2021 13:17

It will be over once they have enough of the tests in the schools.
One local school alone for a day will need over 2000 tests.
And one thing we can rely on the government and a specific lab is cocking up.

CheltenhamLady · 06/01/2021 13:20

They mentioned the end of March on the news last night.

canigooutyet · 06/01/2021 13:22

Click and collect has been amazing. Made going out of the house to do some shopping enjoyable rather than have it all delivered.
Curry’s, Argos and more started doing it last year.

Local indie shops had already introduced a phone service for collection/delivery. Some charge and some don’t for delivery. Store collections you are given a slot like the big chains.

shinynewapple2021 · 06/01/2021 13:23

@LucilleTheVampireBat

It will last so long because it's not a proper lockdown

^^ this.

I am not a lockdown fan. I hate all of this. I'm not afraid of Covid but I do desperately want things to improve. I am currently sat in a small open-plan office with 4 of my colleagues. On a business park where every office is full. Nobody is working from home. This isn't going away.

Are you able to do your job from home ? Have you raised it with your management ?
Angeliana · 06/01/2021 13:23

Schools are opening again after February half term.

The rest of us will be in lockdown until Easter, most likely.

EngineeringFix · 06/01/2021 13:24

It's not gaslighting.
It's keeping things under review.
There's no timetable. How would that even work?

Fizbosshoes · 06/01/2021 13:26

@Angeliana

I don't think they promised schools going back after half term as a definite?
ALondonMum2 · 06/01/2021 13:27

This government has no spine. Lockdown is unnecessary and should not have happened at all. The park near where I live has its carpark full today with lots of people out for walks and old folks sunbathing (just to say I have nothing against that), as I observed on my morning run. People will do whatever they want to do.

I hope the government will lift the fucking lockdown, because it only harms children and the economy.

EngineeringFix · 06/01/2021 13:28

It's not gaslighting.

Things have to be kept under review.

There is no exact timetable. How would that even work?

AuntieStella · 06/01/2021 13:29

I's definitely not gaslighting when there is a clear, verbatim record of what was said.

No one knows when restrictions might be eased, but they will be reviewed every 3 weeks.

The other thing to watch will be progress towards getting the first 4 priority groups vaccinated. Boris kept banging on about the challenging but attainable target for getting first shot in by mid-Feb, hinting that relaxation might be possible after that (which I take to mean 'definitely won't be before then')

DianaT1969 · 06/01/2021 13:31

They didn't lie. Apparently 1 in 50 have Covid now and 1 in 30 in London. That's from 1 in 200 at the end of the summer. If those stats are true, what do you think should happen?

lynsey91 · 06/01/2021 13:31

Of course it could last until the end of March. It could also quite likely last longer.

Why would anyone not realise that? The virus is not going away any time soon. Vaccinations will take forever despite Boris' promises.

I just don't understand why flights, ferries etc are not being stopped. They should have been stopped last year in the first lock down but never have been.

All the time we allow people in and out of the country with no checks things will not improve

mummabubs · 06/01/2021 13:34

I don't think I've ever come close to defending Boris before.... But even I have to say that he did clearly say in his latest speech that it would be reviewed in February, not necessarily lifted. Other parts were still as clear as mud but he did not promise an end in February at all.

I also agree with other comments about it being a less stringent lockdown than is needed. I'm in Wales but my family are all in England and the idea that England is in "lockdown" but any one person from a household can still meet up with as many different people as they like outside as long as they do it one at a time boggles me.
