Lockdown until 31st March

What a fucking surprise,. Story popped up on my news feed saying lockdown could easily last until 31st March.
Lied to again. Thought it was meant to be February. Okay it doesn't say it will last that long but why else would they be voting on it?
Not surprised just fucking fuming that Boris is desperate to fuck up my daughter's education. Got one in Y10 who although is in school is obviously not getting the full lesson. Also have one in Y8 who hasn't caught up from first lockdown yet.
Don't reckon school will open fully at all this academic year

@happystone

Why do people still trust the government? 30000 people have to have the vaccine. Do you trust them not to fuck it up? I’m looking on lockdown lasting all year. They I won’t be disappointed.
Yep. Every time a new restriction is in place it baffles me that people are surprised! This isn’t going to end any time soon.

The legislation for the lockdown is here:

www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2021/8/contents/made

It's a set of amendments to the 'all tiers' legislation that places us all in Tier 4 and tightens the Tier 4 restrictions.

www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/1374/contents

One of the amendments is to the expiry date:

In regulation 15(1), for “2nd February 2021” substitute “31st March 2021”.

However there are no amendments to regulation 14 which says the secretary of state must review what tier each area is in at least every 14 days and must also review whether each of the restrictions for each tier are still needed at least every 28 days.

www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/1374/regulation/14

So we'll have the Tier system until the end of March but that doesn't mean we'll all be in tier 4 until then, or that the tier 4 rules will stay the same until then.

paulstearne · 06/01/2021 13:40

It's not often that I defend Boris but nobody has been lied to. A lot of people have taken it upon themselves to see 'mid February' as a defining date.

Carlislemumof4 · 06/01/2021 13:41

The op specifically referenced school and her DCs education. It is not acceptable for school closures to be open-ended.

The need for other restrictions to continue for an open-ended period is a different issue.

APerfectSpy · 06/01/2021 13:45

This isn't a surprise at all. Have you not been following the news? The scientists have all said as much.

in fact when thy announced the tiers back in September they clearly said for the following 6 months we'll use this system... if people thought we'd be tier free before easter think they were too illusional.

also he said lockdown will be reviewed in February

2BDIs · 06/01/2021 13:53

Of course it will last longer than mod Feb. All they said was it would be reviewed then, not that it would end then. The first one we had was meant to be 3 weeks initially. It lasted from 23 March to 4 July. 3.5 months. I would not be surprised if this one lasted until at least Easter and that it what I am working on. Plan for the worst, hope for the best

Furries · 06/01/2021 14:09

@ALondonMum2

This government has no spine. Lockdown is unnecessary and should not have happened at all. The park near where I live has its carpark full today with lots of people out for walks and old folks sunbathing (just to say I have nothing against that), as I observed on my morning run. People will do whatever they want to do.

I hope the government will lift the fucking lockdown, because it only harms children and the economy.

So you are out for a run (permitted) and yet moaning about people out for a walk (also permitted).

I don’t understand your point?

Jrobhatch29 · 06/01/2021 14:11

Haha! The date my maternity ends. Great😭

movingonup20 · 06/01/2021 14:13

The legislation expires at the end of March, that means after then they will need new laws to force shops to remain shut etc however they can choose to reopen before that, he clearly says in response to this that ether don't expect to need as long and that schools will be first to restart, he also said tiers could be reintroduced in different areas at different times

OldOrMaybeNotThatOld · 06/01/2021 14:34

Honestly I just have to say this .... Why does every person on MNs think they know how to approach this situation better than 'Boris' ... Has anybody actually considered what it REALLY is like to be a PM in this shit storm?

I live in South Africa and I can promise you guys now that the simple fact that you guys can even consider a lockdown and survive financially because of the support of your govt is a HUGE thing.

I was just saying to my sister in the UK that she knows a handful of people who have had Covid and are weathering the storm well healthwise. I, on the other hand, know upwards of 30 people with Covid and today alone I got news of 5 deaths from people who work for me (their families). Our govt gets lambasted the same as yours does but our hands a bit more tied than yours with a poor health service, no unemployment funds or grants for anybody!

I cant possibly think of a worse job right now than being in charge of 67million people with a multitude of opinions and trying to keep everyone happy and keep a country afloat!!!

10kaDay · 06/01/2021 14:34

@LucilleTheVampireBat

It will last so long because it's not a proper lockdown

^^ this.

I am not a lockdown fan. I hate all of this. I'm not afraid of Covid but I do desperately want things to improve. I am currently sat in a small open-plan office with 4 of my colleagues. On a business park where every office is full. Nobody is working from home. This isn't going away.

@LucilleTheVampireBat@: how do you feel about this? Do you WANT to be in, is your work impossible to do from home?
PriceEmUp · 06/01/2021 14:37

Get a grip.
Stop trying to guess when all this is over.

Just go with it, you’ll be happier.

cyclingmad · 06/01/2021 14:51

Why are you spreading misinformation by creating a post with a title stating lockdown until March 31st?

Why are you spreading lies?

There is a lockdown until med fev at which point there will be a review as go whether it continues or not.

I mean ffs if your going to bash the goverment at least make sure your facts are right

Typical covidiot!

1forAll74 · 06/01/2021 15:21

The government are always going to state,or predict, when the lockdown might end, to kind of assure the public. But as it is, they can't possibly know for sure when this will happen with this virus. They just have to wait to see how the vaccinations go, to watch how the virus is behaving all over the country, and to clock the behaviour of most of the people in the country.

😂😂😂
Whatever9999 · 06/01/2021 15:42

Pretty sure whats actually happening is reviews every 2 weeks and when they do start lifting lockdown (which may be mid-feb or may be later or may even be earlier if they can get enough of the vulnerable vaccinated quickly enough) it will be in small steps that could take until the end of March or beyond. You know like they didn't suddenly change from full lockdown to tiers overnight but did it in steps.

annevonkleve · 06/01/2021 16:06

Hopefully if they get the vaccination programme up and running enough they can start to ease restrictions slowly from mid Feb. By Easter we should be in a better position.

It will be warmer, for one thing. We know covid spreads like mad when it's cold from all the food factories that had outbreaks.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 06/01/2021 16:48

It’s due to be reviewed in February, it was never promised as an end date.

Given the amount still mixing, bubbles in place, huge numbers claiming school places despite being home then February seems a pipe dream currently.

DoubleTweenQueen · 06/01/2021 17:01

HRTWT, so apologies if this has already been said, but I think the legislation running to March 31st is to allow areas to be released from lockdown to tier 4 - 3- 2, as and when the caseload eases, to be reviewed on a regular basis between now and the end of March?

We are banking on educational lockdown until half-term, at least.

So we’re just getting on with it, and trying to keep the children positive, but we’re able to do that so we are very fortunate, and just hope to all stay well.

Or anyone in the UK in January! It got a bit sunny this afternoon, but the emphasis is on "bit". You'd be definitely pushing it to say you could sunbathe!
canigooutyet · 06/01/2021 17:55

I was reading through thinking sun bathing, in January, in the U.K are you having a laugh.

I reckon the school uturn is because they don’t have enough of the quick tests. It was only a few weeks ago schools were threatened with legal action to remain open.
Schools were sending out consent letters for the tests since the 1st and submitting how many want them.
The government possibly thought they had us all fooled with their insistence that schools were safe and wouldn’t be that much take up for the rapid tests.

When you are on the phone to schools this week when they contact you, ask them if they have enough tests yet to do the whole school for one day.
