Can I say Thank You to all the Head Teachers and staff who are having to deal with this clusterfuck?

The emails from DD's secondary Head still have a grain of humour in them but how the poor woman has any hair left is beyond me. Along with the SLT and other Teachers she must have worked so hard to put plan after plan into place only for it to be changed at the last minute.

The emails from her since the week before the Xmas break have basically been

We thought we were doing A but now we are doing B. we have worked very hard to prepare for B and this is how it will work.

It seems now we are doing C. We have given this a lot of thought and put a lot of effort into a viable plan...

Whoops we are doing D

Oh actually it's E/F...Z

Today's message was about all the volunteers they had recruited for the testing, the training they had done and how it was all going to work.

What a waste of time and effort.

Hear Hear.
I don't know how every HT in the land hasn't resigned.

MuseumGardens · 04/01/2021 21:26

I agree. Thank you! You are appreciated.

They have been pushed to the absolute limits.

herecomesthsun · 04/01/2021 21:30

Our experience of head teachers has been variable, to say the least.

I do think it will be easier for teachers if they are either teaching in class or teaching on line and not doing both. So I hope it is in a way easier for the teachers. (I am very impressed by the support from our secondary school).

JanuaryChill · 04/01/2021 21:40

Although some schools have so many KW/Vulnerable kids in that teachers are still being asked to teach in person and online at the same time.

wlaiabdh · 04/01/2021 21:46

@JanuaryChill yes, this is exactly our current plan - doing both at once 🤨

Al1langdownthecleghole · 04/01/2021 21:50

wlaiabdh I trust you will be sweeping up the mess left with that broom up your arse as well?

Yes we will be teaching both in person (with the same standards and expectations as normal) and online. Confused

Accidentaltransfer · 04/01/2021 21:54

Also teaching online and in class

tootyfruitypickle · 04/01/2021 21:55

Totally agree OP. My dd’s headteacher is the only person talking any sense at the moment !

mineofuselessinformation · 04/01/2021 21:56

I'm a teacher. I feel so sorry for my Head Teacher having to deal with the constantly shifting goalposts, never mind my own worries, so thank you OP for saying this.
I'm also mindful of any other staff who work in school who have been put in unendurable circumstances by the government not making a decision sooner. Also a recognition of the parents and students who have been left to drift until BJ finally recognised what's coming.

5zeds · 04/01/2021 21:56

Yes, you are so wonderful. We see you.Flowers

DateLoaf · 04/01/2021 21:57

I emailed school to say thanks. What a complete cluster. They must be exhausted after all the pissing about over the new year as well. Mega thanks to any TAs, teachers and heads on here. Flowers

mrshoho · 04/01/2021 21:57

completely agree.

starrynight19 · 04/01/2021 21:58

I honestly don’t know how headteachers are dealing with this I really don’t.

Timeturnerplease · 04/01/2021 22:01

Thanks, I shall mention to the head at our school. She’s only 40 but she just looks done in at the moment. Poor woman lives on her own too, so she deals with all this shite then goes home to an empty house.

Abraxan · 04/01/2021 22:06

I don't know how my headteacher is coping to be honest.
I've just been speaking to her as I oversee our remote learning, website and social media and we needed to get something online to tell our parents what was happening.

We were only taking about it this afternoon saying he'll surely give us at least a day to,sort this - we should have learnt by now.

Dh heard the news, heard the call come through from the head and came back upstairs to hand me a large glass of wine and a box of chocolates!

We are closed to all tomorrow to get sorted and then will be remote teaching, plus supervising key worker/vulnerable children from Wednesday. We had full bubbles last time so unlikely to be different this time round.

Im clinically vulnerable and not really sure where I stand. Last time I worked from home but this time BJ only mentioned CEV. I've had covid 3 months ago and it's actually left me with another health issue. I need to check with gp what this now means as I am now borderline cv/cev I would think. Headteacher is happy for me to work from home for now I think, but would be good to actually know for sure.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 04/01/2021 22:06

Excellent idea, and please do all email your Heads to let them know you appreciate them and what they’re doing. Our Head has said she has received so many messages of support from parents it’s made her a bit teary.

StrugglingICUnurse · 04/01/2021 22:10

Hear hear.

lavenderlou · 04/01/2021 22:13

All the time and effort (and probably money!) that has gone into trying to set up the testing for all pupils that now won't be done.

Wakemeuuuup · 04/01/2021 22:16

I completely agree. Thank you to all head teachers, teachers and staff

SallyTimms · 04/01/2021 22:16

Our school. Isn't closing tomorrow, doors are open to give parents chance to sort childcare and get keyworker requests in to school. Hats off to our SLT they are well on the ball.

That's a good idea. I really want to acknowledge the shit that has been thrown at them & let them know I appreciate their efforts.
