How are people’s vaccinator job applications going?

We had a previous thread which I’ve lost. So after originally filling out the form to register my interest in Nov with NHSP and being told I’d hear back within 7 days I only got a link to fill out a proper appt a few days ago.

Done the application now and been told to wait to hear if I’m successful or not. I can really only weekends as I have a substantive 9-5 job to do but hopefully they will want all hands on deck and not turn a registered HCP who knows how to wield a needle away!

I've got my f2f SJA training tomorrow - just re-reading over my modules and digging out my dbs as I did all the online training a month or so ago..good to year at least some SJA volunteers are getting shifts (and a large vacc centre has just opened up near me so hopefully they'll be some slots over spring/summer?). Just hoping to be able to help out in some way really. I'm in the next age band to be vaccinated so hopefully I'll have my own done before my first shift!

Cookerhood · 09/03/2021 19:57

People I know (SJA) just keep getting their shifts cancelled, even when accepted. I friend has had 8 cancelled. Some of mine seem to have disappeared before I was actually offered the. It's so frustrating, I had visions of being able to help out locally & frequently. Instead it's miles away & doesn't actually happen. Such a waste of al that training, how many will actually stick with it. When you have a life to organise as well you can't just keep days free just in case.

SpringerMonster · 09/03/2021 22:39

SJA shifts seem to be a bit of a lottery, depending where in the country you are. In my area there are plenty of patient advocate shifts (which can be great and really rewarding) but not many vaccinators. I did spend a full shift today vaccinating tho so it does happen - hang in there!

farfallarocks · 10/03/2021 11:14

I’m in london and have had zero shifts. The whole thing is sadly a shambles. Now the app doesn’t work, shifts not confirmed until 48 hrs before, shifts cancelled. Huge waste of time and money for all involved.

Cookerhood · 10/03/2021 11:46

It's crazy, you can't just keep your life on hold in case you get a shift (I work too). Such a shame with so much goodwill.

Beemail1 · 11/03/2021 06:30

Done online and F2F and now the app won't accept my SJA password. So many tech probs all the way through. Beginning to despair. Will I ever make it as a vaccinator?

MrBeagles · 11/03/2021 11:22

@Beemail1 it's frustrating and disappointing isn't it? Still, the folk who are already vaccinating are doing a sterling job and, the emails I've received seem to indicate it may be a long-term programme.

I expect we'll have long forgotten about our applications and will be surprised to find an email. I think hang in here.

Cookerhood · 11/03/2021 11:42

I think it takes a while for your access to the app to be activated. Do you have your ID?

Frazzled2207 · 11/03/2021 12:31

I've had calls pestering me to book my face to face training (I did), and all kind of pestering about 'issues getting the DBS' (which has arrived). Nobody seems to tell me when or if I will be able to get any actual shifts. I live in Greater Manchester I'm not prepared to travel a long way. They're sympathetic when they call but completely useless. Is a colossal waste of time but the most important thing I suppose is despite this people are actually getting vaccinated.

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 11/03/2021 17:17

I applied for face to face BLS and vaccination training at the trust dealing with me about a month ago. I've just had an email saying please could I send evidence of these from previous employment. (My BLS is out of date and my vaccination training was part of a medical degree, so not a signed off competency)
I've had to repeat so much information along the way it's been really time consuming.
Anyway, I've got a different (part-time) job instead now and I think I'm going to cut my losses as I'd have less time available and it doesn't seem worth investing more time and effort in a job that seems unlikely to materialise at the end of it all.

Cookerhood · 11/03/2021 22:28

So they've just opened up several hubs near me to SJA (not new hubs, new to SJA). I'm going in...

KatyNonRoyal · 11/03/2021 23:09

My friend applied for that, hope no "treatments" get approved because then the vaccines lose their emergency (EUA) clearance, and she's in bad need of a job ever since brexit. Ivermectin cut deaths by 75% in Peru and that is a bit worrying, but Chamie-Quintero were probably wrong.

KatyNonRoyal · 11/03/2021 23:10

PS I read you can test the feel of injecting human skin on oranges, in case that helps anyone. I pierced my boyfriend's ear when I was a teenager and human skin's quite tough!

This is my experience too. Not managed to actually do a single shift, to be honest I'm focussing on the day job- it's been so much hassle and stress I can't face engaging with it anymore.
Layladylay234 · 13/03/2021 09:57

I signed up to Cov and Wark trust and no shifts either. Even now after the fabled 15th March when they would become more busy I've read about.

Total joke and waste of time

I'm Warwick & Cov SJA district, we've just started at Stoneleigh this weekend. I had my jab there yesterday and the staff said they were ramping up with opening more booths. Hopefully you'll be needed soon too
Layladylay234 · 13/03/2021 16:29

Thanks for this @Missypuff30. I've already for a different job now though. Such a shame all that time I wasted on training

KarmaKhameleon · 13/03/2021 22:04

I applied through NHS Professionals way back in December and was accepted and ready to be trained in January. But have just heard this week that the Trust that I had selected (Kent) hasn't taken NHSP bank staff since 2015...what a complete and utter joke, all the hours I spent training, approaching references and uploading documents etc etc! They recruit their own bank staff directly apparently. Just wish this could have been aligned from the outset, there must be loads of other cheesed off applicants. Really really appalling...

ohfourfoxache · 13/03/2021 22:11

Started my application with NHSP on 30 November

19 online training certificates uploaded, shit loads of time and effort - did them as soon as I received them in January

Had my f2f training 3 weeks ago

No contact since and I’m beginning to lose hope....I’m really, really pissed off

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 14/03/2021 18:27

More emails:

'Thank you for your application to join the National Vaccination Programme.

We are pleased to invite you to the next stage in the application process which includes Occupational Health, online training and information required for the pre-deployment phase.'

I've already done all this!!

vintagenurse · 14/03/2021 19:30

Just updating...applied 1st week in December through 'fast track recruitment' for already employed nurses... have my first shifts next weekend! Literally hundreds of shifts on the self booking portal for band 5s over the next few weeks. However my sister who has joined as a non nurse vaccinator, said there were only a few each week for band 4s.

StellaOlivetti · 15/03/2021 18:29

@StillNoFuckingEyeDeer

I had that email twice too! They also sent me a letter, just to make sure.

Beemail1 · 16/03/2021 07:47

I'm with SJA. Well now managed to get into the app but not the location section.
It's just says no data to display. Any thoughts anyone? This is so frustrating.

Cookerhood · 16/03/2021 11:24

I sometimes have to keep going back into it over & over. Have you clicked on volunteer, then enter the dates, & Vax plus wherever you are? If you just put Vax you should get all sites. It often doesn't seem to work though.
Doing my first shift this week.

HildegardNightingale · 16/03/2021 11:37

@Cookerhood - good luck.
