How are people’s vaccinator job applications going?

We had a previous thread which I’ve lost. So after originally filling out the form to register my interest in Nov with NHSP and being told I’d hear back within 7 days I only got a link to fill out a proper appt a few days ago.

Done the application now and been told to wait to hear if I’m successful or not. I can really only weekends as I have a substantive 9-5 job to do but hopefully they will want all hands on deck and not turn a registered HCP who knows how to wield a needle away!

@Olympicfan - great news - pleased for your DD!

MrBeagles · 17/02/2021 14:59

@Olympicfan thank you for this update. I've been following your DD's progress on the thread and it's been helpful to read. Good luck to her!

Cookerhood · 17/02/2021 15:48

I've just found this thread & have tried to read it all, so forgive me if I've missed anything. I've done the SJA f2f training & am signed off although haven't received an ID card or access to the app yet. Has anyone actually vaccinated a "citizen" through SJA? No-one I know has, and no-one in their Teams calls has. A couple of people have done the herding people roles, but no-one has actually used a syringe for real. I'm worried that by the time I can actually volunteer I will need re-training again. After all, we only did 4 practice jabs.

Gadzookery · 17/02/2021 16:21

@Cookerhood - I was on an SJA teams' call on Monday and 2 peeps there had delivered vaccinations. From memory each one had done 2 to 3 shifts.

Scitech · 17/02/2021 16:42

Still no further on with my application through NHSP. Had email 11 days ago asking to choose lead employer and nothing since ☹️

Cookerhood · 17/02/2021 16:42

Thanks for letting me know, there is hope then! I'm hoping I'll actually have the confidence to deliver the injections. I guess once you've done a few it's easy!

Layladylay234 · 17/02/2021 17:18

Great update @Olympicfan, I'm meant to have my f2f training next Weds, had to email today to check if that was ok though as they never got back to me to say that date was fine!

It's nice to see at least 1 person who's applied through NHSP getting some work!

Xelda · 17/02/2021 17:26

Glad to have found this thread. I applied through NHSP and now have my uniform, DBS certificate, ID badge etc but no idea what's happening! I have a login to book bank shifts but none showing. I called NHSP to ask about practical training and the lady I spoke to said there wasn't any!!When I told her which trust I was assigned to and asked if I just had to wait for shifts to appear, she gave me an email address which when I googled it turned out to be for the wrong trust. I'll try calling the right trust tomorrow but on the website it looks like they're looking just for medically trained vaccinators. Feeling despondent!

Xelda · 17/02/2021 17:35

@Olympicfan Pleased to hear your DD has been successful! Did she apply through NHSP and if so how did she book the training? I've checked emails etc but can't see anything I've missed!

Foilball · 17/02/2021 17:44

I'm in exactly the same situation as you

Olympicfan · 17/02/2021 17:47

@Xelda DD applied through NHSP back at the end of December. She did the 30 modules of online training, filled out the application form, applied for her DBS, had the Occupational Health Screening, got an NHS email address and ID badge, did a day of online theory training, 2 hrs of f2f practical training and the next step is the 2 hrs f2f of life support/resuscitation training before she can apply for shifts via the online shift roaster.

All the training links were emailed to her via NHSP. It has been a slow process, she is just desperate to vaccinate now!

Xelda · 17/02/2021 18:58

Thanks @Olympicfan I went through the same except no NHS email address or link to the theory. Will try to get some more info in case I have missed something!
@Foilball it's disappointing, there was such a flurry of emails and updates then nothing!

Xelda · 17/02/2021 18:59

Not sure what happened there! Grin

Olympicfan · 17/02/2021 19:16

'roster' not roaster!!

Layladylay234 · 18/02/2021 08:08

Yes,just to echo @Olympicfan,I started all the online training at the end of Dec. Did all of the modules, the lengthy forms, the 4 references....then more forms, then selected my trust around Jan time....heard nothing..... more forms to fill.....received t shirts, have to send photo for ID badge....heard nothing....finally had an email last Fri about F2F training, replied instantly.....heard nothing, sent an email yesterday asking if the training was confirmed and they replied that it was with details of how to get there and welcome pack.

I'm also on the electronic system with no shifts showing but presumably they'll activate them after I've done my f2f training.

My advice would be don't get your hopes up. I'd pretty much accepted I wasn't going to get any work about a month ago then things started happening, then they stopped again. It will remains to be seen whether they'll actually BE any shifts after I've done all my training and I can only work in the role now until the end of May as that's when I start my final uni placement (OT student). But I'm looking on this now as,well at least I'm registered,it looks like they'll still be vaccinating people way into the autumn then will prob start with the vulnerable again to cover them for autumn/winter 2021 (this is just a guess though) so at least once I'm registered,I always have the option to do it,even if I have to take a break for my placement.

Hope that gives everyone a bit of insight and maybe hope

Layladylay234 · 18/02/2021 08:11

Oh and just to say,I have no NHS email addresses but do have a DBS and polo t shirts! Just waiting to send a pic for my ID badge. I really think it varies from trust to trust

Hopeful646 · 18/02/2021 08:45

@Layladylay234 I'm pleased you're finally getting somewhere with it all . 😊

Foilball · 18/02/2021 10:52

I've been added to an electronic system with no shifts showing. No contact from trust about f2f training. I seem to be doing everything in a different order to everyone else!

They must be really busy trying to get everyone set up. I don't particularly mind as I'd prefer to start working on vaccinations in spring /summer as that fits more easily with my job, but it must be frustrating for others

HildegardNightingale · 18/02/2021 11:25

I’m going in for my first shift today starting at 13.30hrs. I’m on a temp contract though with a Trust (part of the Bring back Staff strategy). Hope everyone gets their shifts sorted out soon.

Chardonnay73 · 18/02/2021 16:29

My SJA fleece arrived today... but still no ID. I had volunteered for a vaccinator shift on Tuesday 16th, that date came and went with no confirmation of shift 😒
I have a zoom meeting with my area lead tonight. I’ll be asking a LOT of questions...

Olympicfan · 19/02/2021 09:49

@HildegardNightingale how did your first shift go? Did you get to vaccinate an actual person?!!

@Chardonnay73 How was your zoom meeting with the area lead?

HildegardNightingale · 19/02/2021 21:15

Shift yesterday and today went well and very very busy/fast. People upbeat getting the vaccine. We got thank you cards and a box of quality street from people, it was lovely.
Am just home from my long day 8am-8pm so am now relaxing with a wine.

Olympicfan · 20/02/2021 16:23

That is great to hear @HildegardNightingale. It is good to hear how upbeat people are and grateful for the vaccine.

Have you been vaccinated yet?

HildegardNightingale · 20/02/2021 16:53

I was vaccinated a 10 days ago because I have a contract as a frontline nhs worker.

Olympicfan · 20/02/2021 17:05

DD was offered one, but at a vaccine centre the other end of the county (50 mile round trip). She is going to phone this week as we have a hub 5 miles away.
