How are people’s vaccinator job applications going?

We had a previous thread which I’ve lost. So after originally filling out the form to register my interest in Nov with NHSP and being told I’d hear back within 7 days I only got a link to fill out a proper appt a few days ago.

Done the application now and been told to wait to hear if I’m successful or not. I can really only weekends as I have a substantive 9-5 job to do but hopefully they will want all hands on deck and not turn a registered HCP who knows how to wield a needle away!

A family member said to me 'oh they'll be no arms left, they're vaccinating so fast' but people needs second doses, annual top ups, and they other groups once priority groups are inoculated.
So I hope there's enough work there - especially after all the online training!

Chardonnay73 · 16/01/2021 12:32

I’m on my training today. The trainer said that local hubs will be opening in the next 2/3weeks. Once today is over as soon as my dbs is back I can go out that week, so sounds like loads of shifts available. He also said that if there are any spare vaccines left at the end of the shift then they are offering them to volunteers so most people are being vaccinated.

FippertyGibbett · 16/01/2021 12:34

I asked at my local hub and was told they are not short of vaccinators, and that getting vaccine supply is the problem.

Frazzled2207 · 16/01/2021 12:36

@Chardonnay73
that's brilliant.

Hiya,is that with SJA or NHS?
Chardonnay73 · 16/01/2021 14:42

SJA.

MoiraNotRuby · 18/01/2021 10:40

I'm with SJA, interview was in early December, but DBS only arrived on Friday. They've emailed me about training but it contradicts itself over what to do in what order. Seems to be a mix of online with SJA, face to face with SJA, online with NHS. Waiting for SJA login details next. So much waiting!!

You need to do all the SJA and the E-LFH modules before the face to face training.

It doesn't really matter which order, but they send you a link to book your f2f session when you've completed the SJA bits, so sensible to do those first. You then need to complete the NHS E-LfH stuff and download or print the certificates.

Yes to the waiting (although SJA much better than NHS). I did the f2f training last Sunday, got my t-shirt and nothing has happened since. A new big hub has opened near me and I'm itching to get started.

MoiraNotRuby · 18/01/2021 11:07

Thanks cathyandclare, that makes sense. Hope you get some shifts soon!

MrBeagles · 18/01/2021 16:09

Can anyone answer two questions?

  1. do you need to submit the transcript of your assessments to the application form, or just the certificates? Sorry if obvious.

Second, once the training and form is complete, what's next in the NHS process? I've seen nothing on f2f training. *Anyone actually up and running yet as a vaccinator? How's it going.

  • Ah, that's three questions!
goldpendant · 18/01/2021 16:11

Holy Moly, I've now been referred to the Occupational Health screening process.... another week, another form!

This one is confusing!

Anyone who has applied via NHSP;

It'll appear to ask you to declare that you've had varicella immunisation (chicken pox). You can type into the field that you've either had the illness or the vaccine.

Then later before you submit, it'll ask you to provide proof of your vaccine history and how you'd like to do so (by system online or by post). Don't select either of these options! Select the option that says you have no evidence to submit at this time.

I spoke to two Optima reps today and both said it's really confusing, they actually don't need this level of info but if you say you'll provide it, it asks for all sorts of info like HIV antigens and Hep antigens. Nightmare!

Hope this helps.

Frazzled2207 · 18/01/2021 21:24

@Wincher (or possibly others)
So i had my SJA interview today on teams and passed - yey - and they have sent me a whole thing about elearning - fine .
Except I log in and I can't find the relevant courses anywhere. I wish I had some kind of number to call. Can anyone help?

Oh lord,I expect I'll have this coming some point soon then. Thanks for the heads up @goldpendant. At this point however,I can't see me having any time to work for them because it's taking to long. I presumed if I started the process on Dec, I'd be starting in Feb. I've got my final uni placement in June,at this rate,I'd be amazed if I hear anything by then!

Myself and @goldpendant applied through NHSP if that's who you applied through? Or did you go direct through the NHS jobs website?
Chardonnay73 · 18/01/2021 21:48

@Frazzled2207 The links are on the email they send you, just click on each one and it takes you to the relevant course.

Frazzled2207 · 18/01/2021 21:57

thanks @Chardonnay73
I don't have links to individual courses, I have to go into the portal but then it's not obvious at all where to go. I have emailed them so hopefully someone will get back to me.

SpringerMonster · 18/01/2021 22:26

@Frazzled2207 in mine there is an image that says Vaccination Programme and a green covid like cell. The link is actually there - I was a bit co fused at first because below it talks about different roles and mentions mandatory training but none of that is needed.
I had my first shift yesterday and got signed off as a competent vaccinator. I have another shift coming up but from talking to others it sounds like they are a bit over subscribed at the moment (or at least for certain shift) but my vaccination centre isn't at full capacity yet, and of course they will open more!

SpringerMonster · 18/01/2021 22:28

This is what it looks like. The small green writing on the black is a link

Frazzled2207 · 18/01/2021 22:35

@SpringerMonster
is that when you log into the portal? Def not seen this end.

Frazzled2207 · 18/01/2021 22:39

@SpringerMonster
ps well done you for doing your first shift.

SpringerMonster · 18/01/2021 22:41

Yes its on the 'my dashboard' part of the portal. I did mine about 3 weeks ago tho so maybe they've changed it since then (although it was there just now when I logged in to take the screen shot)

MrBeagles · 19/01/2021 07:39

@Layladylay234

Yes I applied through NHSP.

@SpringerMonster

Great that you've started! Well done! It's a bit concerning that they're oversubscribed just now. Maybe that will change as people's work patterns do/vaccine roll out progresses? I hope so! This online training is brutal!

HildegardNightingale · 19/01/2021 09:48

@goldpendant snap. Have also got an occupational health assessment to look at my BCG scar. I applied through Bring Back Staff which put my application through to the local trust.

Layladylay234 · 19/01/2021 20:29

@goldpendant Sorry to bother you but this is the email I had thought today. I logged on,click I agree to everything,but there doesn't seem to be anything else to do?! What was your next step?

@goldpendant,ignore me,I've just re-read it
