I read this independent sage report this morning & it’s so alarming- www.independentsage.org/29th-december-2020-emergency-statement-and-call-for-immediate-national-lockdown/

Aibu to think we are in trouble

Bluebird2021 · 31/12/2020 10:06

i'd say so!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 31/12/2020 10:07

What are you hoping to achieve by this new thread that adds meaningfully to the hundreds of threads on Covid that exist already?

I mean, what? The ghoulish scaremongering on MN drives me insane some days.

TwirlingTwizzler · 31/12/2020 10:07

Of course we're in trouble but an awful lot of people have their heads firmly in the sand and won't admit how bad it actually is until either they or someone close becomes very unwell and dies or suffers long term.

Nicolastuffedone · 31/12/2020 10:07

Yes, I think it’s more worrying this time round.

Blackcelebration12 · 31/12/2020 10:09

@TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross a discussion? I’m really worried and mumsnet is a discussion board. It’s not goulish scaremongering- it’s facts.

OP posts:
Nicolastuffedone · 31/12/2020 10:10

TheOnlyLivingBoy seems this isn’t the thread for you then.....

RainingBatsAndFrogs · 31/12/2020 10:10

Have you been under a spell and sleeping behind a briar hedge since November, OP?

DailyMailHater · 31/12/2020 10:12

I thought there was a covid board for this sort of discussion, so those that need respite from the constant onslaught of covid news / info didn’t have to see it...it really does have a negative effect on some people’s mental health that it is constantly in their face.

Bongorave · 31/12/2020 10:12

You could put this on the coronavirus board maybe .

Blackcelebration12 · 31/12/2020 10:12

@RainingBatsAndFrogs of course not but I don’t think I realised the scale of it again until I read that report. There’s a lot of mixed messaging in the press and I don’t think it’s being reported accurately plus our crap government response

Where have you been Grin

TurquoiseDress · 31/12/2020 10:14

YANBU

I think we are well and truly in the thick of it right now & it will only get worse after the Christmas gatherings and new infections 2 weeks down the line

The shit is hitting the fan in hospitals right now, sorry not any more optimistic but I wouldn't bet money that 2021 is going to be much better than 2020

Blackcelebration12 · 31/12/2020 10:15

I’m worried about the schools too

TrickorTreacle · 31/12/2020 10:20

Quit with the scare-mongering and stay away from the press. This is one of the reasons why MN has been dogshit this year. Stop with the negativity.

We have a vaccine now. In fact, we have 2. It'll be over soon.

Blackcelebration12 · 31/12/2020 10:24

@TrickorTreacle but it’s clearly not scaremongering if you read the report is it? It’s facts from the scientists about needing an urgent national lockdown & for the schools to close for a month as hospitals are overwhelmed. I am really worried and rightly so I think -

As I said above, heads in sand.
Nicolastuffedone · 31/12/2020 10:29

‘Covid’ is in the title....don’t read it if you feel it’s ‘ghoulish’ ‘scaremongering’

DayBath · 31/12/2020 10:33

I remember when people were accused of scaremongering when talking about a potential pandemic after the first reports of the virus in Wuhan way back in January. "Don't be ridiculous, you're hysterical, that can't possibly happen" they said. Hmm

AlwaysLatte · 31/12/2020 10:37

Yes, there will be a complete lockdown. Which we should be doing now! Bodge-it Johnson strikes again!

NameChange84 · 31/12/2020 10:38

“Schools are safe” says Boris.

Yeah, tell that to the three primary schools in my hometown who have had staff die since half term!

Yes. We should have a hard lockdown now. None of this Tier 4 bollocks. We are at a worse state now than we were in April. But we have vaccines. Let’s shut down now, throw everything at the vaccines and hopefully in 8 weeks time there will be a massive positive shift.

One of the biggest problems is that people won’t comply. As far as I can see, most people who I used to see using masks have stopped, they are still mixing households, bending the rules at every opportunity, my local church broadcast their midnight mass with people singing their hearts out and not distancing (even though no singing is allowed), and “rebelling” and “my family first” “we won’t be complying” “our mental health is more important than a virus that only kills 1% we will take our chances”, “I’m allowing my child to have sleepovers, they are all in the same bubble anyway” “I refuse to wear a face nappy” etc is seen as cool and evolved rather than being fucking reckless, selfish and endangering our nhs and the lives of the people all around us. I’m all for a strict lockdown and more fines and arrests for those who flout the rules. It’s never going to end if people don’t abide by the measures in place. And IMO, it’s never going to end while we let it rip through schools.

jillypill · 31/12/2020 10:39

Did anyone not think it would be worse in the winter?

justanotherneighinparadise · 31/12/2020 10:39

@Blackcelebration12

I’m worried about the schools too
If course you are! Which is basically why you’ve created another thread to discuss it.
CaMePlaitPas · 31/12/2020 10:42

Is there a Coronavirus board? It should be there surely not in AIBU?

Blackcelebration12 · 31/12/2020 10:42

@justanotherneighinparadise well don’t read it then. Those of us that want to talk about it, as above, can chat and you can go and read other threads
