NHS App Alert - self isolate?

ResponsibleAdult12 · 26/12/2020 07:40

Can anyone help?

Yesterday afternoon got a notification from the nhs app that I'd been in close contact with someone with covid.

Then I had a text to ask me to fill in my details online which I didn't do. Then another one this morning saying someone will call me soon if I don't fill in my details.

The thing is I've not seen anyone apart from been in the supermarkets. I'm so confused. There's no way I've been within 2m of the same shopper for more than 15 minutes while doing my shopping so how have they worked this out?

Someone has given your details to test and trace, work back from the 10 days, it could be 2 days before that.
If you ignore the texts, the phone calls then start.
From 8 am u til 8 pm, at 2 hr intervals.

Ignore the App, in this instance. Take note of the texts.

You have been text because someone has given your name and number.
They are told they could be fined for false information.

Work back from the 10 days, you will have been in contact before they had their test or when their symptoms started

Sunflowergirl1 · 26/12/2020 10:19

Unlikely this one but some people testing positive have given peoples names and numbers who they don't like!! They have no way of finding out as T&T won't tell you.

Unfortunately the protocols they follow don't always work. Someone at work tested positive. They wanted details of all contacts but they were work colleagues who all followed the protocols for Covid secure in the workplace...mattered not a jot. They all got notifications that they had all been in contact with a positive case. Of course they all knew who it was but no amount of protesting worked. They were furious

TingTastic · 26/12/2020 10:27

@ResponsibleAdult12

It says on this message 10 days since last contact with them. Now 6 days left so I can only assume that means 22nd unless I can't calculate. Maybe I should switch it off then.
Sorry, I obviously can’t count. It’s actually the 21st

The day you have the contact is day 0 (21st). That would make day 1 the 22nd, day 4 the 26th (today) and day 10 the 31st (final day of isolation). I hope that makes sense!

Think about what you were doing on 21st and who you were with that has your name and number. You been separately contacted through T&T by someone giving your details and through the app matching you so won’t be a mistake x

dementedpixie · 26/12/2020 10:32

The app will have a bit that shows the contact and match date.

Indie139 · 26/12/2020 10:53

I got an alert this morning too saying to isolate from today. Yesterday i was only around 1 person..just so happens myself and this person went for tests on monday and tested negative .. i saw their proof BTW. Day before yesterday i went to 2 supermarkets and a couple shops. But also confused as i wasn't in close contact with anyone for more than 15 m

dementedpixie · 26/12/2020 10:54

Can you also check the app to see when it says your contact was?

Indie139 · 26/12/2020 10:56

I also cant see what to do to get further details of this contact and when

Rosehip10 · 26/12/2020 11:07

The text is generated by an NHS track and trace team - it is totally separate from the app.

unicornparty · 26/12/2020 11:15

I went into the app today and its telling me to self isolate for 3 days. It didn't give me a notification, if I hadn't gone into the app myself I would never have seen it. Is this likely to be an error? I've not had any phone calls or texts from track and trace.

ResponsibleAdult12 · 26/12/2020 11:19

How do I find on the app please as can't work out how to find out that info? I've not seen anyone at all even in the few days before that apart from my family bubble so it still wouldn't make sense. I work from home. My daughter goes to nursery but parents don't have my number and no email from nursery like they did previously

Mine was the same @unicornparty - zero contact from anyone, just happened to open the app in error. It’s completely stupid. I wish they’d just let the public sector sort this nonsense out rather than giving the contracts to their mates who keep screwing it up.

What did you do? Do I self isolate for 3 days or not? I'm not sure whether to trust it.
user1477249785 · 26/12/2020 11:28

To find when you were exposed go to About this App. Then click on manage my data and it's right there

Peach1204 · 26/12/2020 11:28

I had the app notification yesterday saying to isolate for 7 days, no text message asking me to complete my details. I too have only been to the supermarket.

VashtaNerada · 26/12/2020 11:33

@unicornparty Dunno. I have nothing planned (in Tier 4) so hopefully it’s a moot point!

I'm tier 4 as of today but was hoping to go for walks so really don't know what to do!

Lumene · 26/12/2020 11:37

No such thing as a ‘Covid secure’ environment, if track and trace say it was a risk the work environment was not set up to eliminate risk (just to hopefully reduce risk).

ResponsibleAdult12 · 26/12/2020 11:59

Thank you for that. Says 21st. Saw absolutely nobody that day! Didn't even leave the house. A neighbour round the corner apparently got the text as well

OP posts:
VashtaNerada · 26/12/2020 12:01

I’m still going for walks @unicornparty - as I didn’t leave the house that day I’m guessing one of the neighbours has it and it’s picked it up through the walls. I haven’t had any contact with them this week so not too worried.

Northernsoullover · 26/12/2020 12:09

I had the same message yesterday. I posted about it. I went to the supermarket on the day of the alleged exposure. I did not queue to get in nor to pay. I was in and out like a ninja.
I'm all for isolating if exposed and had it said 3 days before I would have been in a cafe albeit distanced and could have said fair enough.
But there is no way I could have been in contact with anyone long enough to trigger the alert. I'm supposed to be working next week.
Stupidly I phoned 119 to query, she took my details and now I'm 'in the system'. I don't know what to do.

ResponsibleAdult12 · 26/12/2020 12:19

@Northernsoullover did you get the text messages as well as the app?

OP posts:
Indie139 · 26/12/2020 12:47

Thanks, it says Christmas eve for me. Still baffled, guess it was an encounter in the shops

DownToTheSeaAgain · 26/12/2020 12:53

Isn't this why we are going to be stuck in lockdown forever.... surely if test and trace contact you it is because someone who tested positive has the virus and you should isolate, however minimal you believe the exposure to be. The app is a red herring.

Northernsoullover · 26/12/2020 12:53

No, just the app message.

ResponsibleAdult12 · 26/12/2020 13:03

@DownToTheSeaAgain so if I've seen no one apart from shops, how have they got my name and telephone number?
