Anyone had symptoms that felt like a really heavy cold but turned out to be covid?

I've had what feels like a really heavy cold for 4 or 5 days now, sore throat, bunged up and runny nose, very occasional cough, no energy.
I've spent most of my time in bed but don't seem to be improving.
Should I get a covid test or would I be wasting their time?

I think you should get tested.

Usernameisunique · 24/12/2020 13:55

I'm in London btw.

I would just get a test in this scenario tbh.

saffire · 24/12/2020 14:19

Get tested.

starrynight19 · 24/12/2020 14:22

Yes my first symptoms were a full head cold. I was positive.

Porcupineintherough · 24/12/2020 14:23

Yes me, this week and I tested positive. Started as what felt for all the world like a head cold- sore throat, bunged sinuses and sneezing, then a cough.

Mooey89 · 24/12/2020 14:24

We’ve got a massive outbreak at work (NHS) and our trust have advised that all had cold symptoms of headache and sore throat, runny nose rather than cough temp etc

I am currently battling a bad head cold. I got tested yesterday morning. Still awaiting my result.

girlofthenorth · 25/12/2020 00:09

Yes positive with head cold symptoms

Goslowlysideways · 25/12/2020 00:15

Two family members just seemed to have rotten colds.... manic sneezing and stuffed up. Both of them had covid.

Usernameisunique · 25/12/2020 17:03

Thanks everyone. I did a test yesterday afternoon so just waiting for the results.

My symptoms were of a very mild cold, much milder than a typical winter bug for me, and I tested positive. Hope you feel better soon.

No, I've had a heavy cold for a week. Thought it was going into my chest and as I usually get a chest infection called my gp who insisted I get a test. Test came back negative yesterday as I knew it would because it feels like every other cold I've ever had. I honestly think people testing positive with a cold do have a cold and happen to have covid at the same time since people with colds have only been testing positive since cold season began.

My sister thought she had a cold. Took her 3 months to get back to work full time cause it turned out to be covid.

Thefeep · 26/12/2020 01:36

I feel the same, although not so bad as to be in bed. Tested Xmas eve, no result yet.

RaRaRasputinHardBastardToKill · 26/12/2020 04:18

My friend had what she thought was a heavy cold and tested positive for Covid.

I'm really confused. I live in Australia and we have been told if we have ANY cold or flu like symptoms we must get tested.
We have been told this since April. A cough, get tested. Achey? Get tested. A headache or a sniffle, get tested. Why is there such
a discrepancy with information?

The UK government is basically limiting tests by having a short list of testable symptoms, contributing to our spiralling cases.

Sadly the UK has mishandled testing badly, along with almost everything else!!

@ inquietant
How is it ever going to get under control? Your schools are still open too? ( I know you have an short Christmas break).

lovelemoncurd · 26/12/2020 05:15

We've all had symptoms of a heavy cold. Got tested on 22nd. It was negative. It was a heavy cold.

lovelemoncurd · 26/12/2020 05:16

Just to add we had Covid in Match. It didn't feel like a heavy cold. Quite different.

eaglejulesk · 26/12/2020 05:21

It's the same in NZ @user1471499545. I've had a cold this week, and had a test, which was negative as I knew it would be.

glitterfarts · 26/12/2020 05:46

2 colleagues both with no energy, sneezing non stop, sore throat.

Both positive.

No fever, no cough, no loss of taste / smell and both quite unwell for a month.

I don't think the government cares tbh. I watch every decision and sadly think 'that's another 5k dead bodies then' Sad plus Angry

Mine started out like a heavy cold, lots of sneezing, sore throat, bunged up. It then progressed into a headache and very different symptoms to a normal cold but for the first few days I would have just thought cold had I not been in contact with a positive case. God knows how many I could have spread it too on the basis I didn’t have the big 3 symptoms!!
