I can’t taste the sugar in my coffee

Woke up, told DH he’d forgot to put sugar in the coffee. He said he hadn’t. I insisted he had and put another spoonful in. Still can’t taste it. DH then admits that he can’t taste it either and couldn’t taste it last night either.

I can still smell stuff if I put my nose right to it (for instance the smelly dog blanket).

Is it even possible to lose one without the other? Not sure if I’m being paranoid

Can you taste the coffee?

CardoMondo · 23/12/2020 07:08

Very slightly, it kind of tastes like very weak coffee, like hot water with half a teaspoon of coffee in it

Ps I know someone who lost taste but not smell who was covd + I didn't realise they could be separate.

Ethelswith · 23/12/2020 07:09

I had a loss of sense of smell/taste (would get first whiff then gone) but tested negative.

So I'd say that it's worth getting a test, because yes it could be covid and is one of the three symptoms which mean you can get tested.

But it doesn't mean it's definitely Covid

My nose was burning last night too. Throat was burning for a week or so but that cleared up

I lost my smell (still have lost it 6 weeks later) but not my taste so believe they can be separate.

Ginfordinner · 23/12/2020 07:16

As an aside, maybe now would be a good time to give up sugar in your coffee?

CardoMondo · 23/12/2020 07:18

I’m just making myself some cranberry cheese on toast. If I can’t taste that I’ll know something is up

Get a test. You have a key symptoms.

Lumene · 23/12/2020 07:25

Are your sure your husband isn’t mistaken or telling a white lie?

CardoMondo · 23/12/2020 07:27

He was saying his eyes was itchy last night, he fell asleep and was saying he felt absolutely exhausted but never mentioned a change in taste

The cranberry cheese was weird, could taste some mouthfuls perfectly, others I couldn’t taste at all Confused

This sounds incredible.

You should get a test booked and tell me how you make cranberry cheese on toast.

covetingthepreciousthings · 23/12/2020 07:36

You need to a book a test and the household isolate until your results.

kimlo · 23/12/2020 07:37

I know someone who lost smell first and taste went later I know someone else who only ever lost smell and taste was fine.

QueenAnnaOfArrandale · 23/12/2020 07:40

I think you need to book a test too. Fingers crossed for a quick result over Christmas for you!

MiniMaxi · 23/12/2020 07:41

Yeah you need a test. I think my brother lost smell but not taste, and he definitely had Covid, pretty sure it doesn’t have to be both.

rc22 · 23/12/2020 07:59

Get a test. I had covid in June and my sense of taste and smell sort of dropped in and out for a few days before I lost it completely.

Mousehole10 · 23/12/2020 09:29

Sorry but you need to test and isolate. This is one of the main symptoms.

Ivytheterrible79 · 23/12/2020 09:34

Book a test. My husband started like this and I followed by coffee and tea tasting like hot water or really weak.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 23/12/2020 09:37

Yes you should both get tests. The symptom is loss/change of taste OR smell.. they might not both change.

Sway19 · 23/12/2020 09:47

You need to isolate and get a test. So sorry OP, such shit timing

starrynight19 · 23/12/2020 09:49

You both need to test. And if you have had the scratchy throat all week I would be thinking of giving a heads up to anyone else you may have been around also.

womanaf · 23/12/2020 09:52

Symptoms include change to taste/smell, not just loss of.

Get a test.

Get tested and isolate. It often begins with a weird taste or lack of taste and/or smell. I had a metallic taste the day before symptoms started.
