I can’t taste the sugar in my coffee

Woke up, told DH he’d forgot to put sugar in the coffee. He said he hadn’t. I insisted he had and put another spoonful in. Still can’t taste it. DH then admits that he can’t taste it either and couldn’t taste it last night either.

I can still smell stuff if I put my nose right to it (for instance the smelly dog blanket).

Is it even possible to lose one without the other? Not sure if I’m being paranoid

@CardoMondo

My nose was burning last night too. Throat was burning for a week or so but that cleared up
@CardoMondo

My mum tested positive and she had a burning nose. She said it hurt to breath through her nose too.

I tested positive in October, I lost smell but not taste, it came back after about 5 days, I had other symptoms too, my oldest DS only lost sense of smell, no other symptoms and he was +

I'd say with a sore throat and a change in sense of taste and smell, you need to get a test.

Beamur · 23/12/2020 14:04

We're just back from getting DD tested. Her sense of smell has been a bit off for a few days..no other symptoms.

I lost my sense of smell OP but never my taste! So it is definitely possible.

covetingthepreciousthings · 24/12/2020 09:18

Did you get a test OP ?

Beamur · 24/12/2020 10:18

My DD's results are back. She's positive. I've woken up with a sore throat.

SpnBaby1967 · 24/12/2020 10:24

@Beamur I tested positive and my main issue has been a sore throat. Minor temp raise prompted my test.

@Ethelswith

I had a loss of sense of smell/taste (would get first whiff then gone) but tested negative.

So I'd say that it's worth getting a test, because yes it could be covid and is one of the three symptoms which mean you can get tested.

But it doesn't mean it's definitely Covid

Same for us. Loss of taste but negative.

I was panicking because I couldn't taste nor smell anything and it was at the very end of our isolation due to DD having Covid. I was very concerned we'd need to lock down for a further 10 days after the two weeks we had just spent inside.

We got everyone tested and we're all negative. My taste and smell appeared back the next day. I think my body sensed my worry and it manifested.

OP I hope yours reappears soon.

I read something about a study wich said that the inability to detect sweet or bitter tastes is peculiar to covid.
