Today was the first time in a large supermarket since March. I rarely go to Aldi but I do like some of their products at Christmas time so thought it will be quiet will nip in and get them.
This poor woman had a hacking cough and was coughing all round the supermarket. Not just once but constantly Needless to say didn’t stay long. Will be giving it a miss for a while
I would have been too embarrassed to go with a cough like that as would be convinced everyone was looking at me

It's gross isn't it?

Bagelsandbrie · 16/12/2020 16:54

Well to be fair she may have asthma or copd or any sort of lung condition (like me). Not every cough - even a hacking or chesty one- is contagious.

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 16/12/2020 16:59

I don't understand why people with hacking coughs go out at the moment ! I had a cough a few weeks ago and stayed in til it had stopped .. if someone has copd then surely they are high risk and shouldn't be in a supermarket !

middleager · 16/12/2020 17:03

I was in a fairly small shop Sunday and a woman pulled her face mask under her chin to give out a long hacking cough. She just laughed about it.

I moved away sharpish as we are tier 3 and one son has already had Covid caught at school, so I know how easily it infects others.

Not everyone can get an online slot and you know some people actually want to go out. The shielding advice has changed - I was in the extremely clinically vulnerable group and now the advice is just to be careful, not to stay inside all the time. (I actually don’t have copd, I have asthma and sometimes I do cough a lot but I can’t help it, I hate it because people do stare at me but I don’t want to spend my whole life shut away)!
helloxhristmas · 16/12/2020 17:08

I have had bronchitis for weeks, on third load of anti biotics to shift it. I feel like I need a big neon sign on my head saying 'its not fucking CV'. Not all coughs are CV.

Livpool · 16/12/2020 17:09

I have asthma and have had some bad symptoms over the last week - cough and tested negative for COVID.

I still had to go out to shop and pick my DS from school

vodkaredbullgirl · 16/12/2020 17:12

No wouldn't put me off.

Mindymomo · 16/12/2020 17:24

I went in a shop for the first time since March. I don’t know why, whether it was the mask, or me panicking, but I started coughing. I was going to just pay for what I had and then it stopped so was ok. I now make sure I have some cough sweets to hand in case it happens again.

TheGremlinsAreComing · 16/12/2020 17:33

Wearing a mask makes me cough. I get a really dry throat and off I go. The amount of filthy looks I've been given is ridiculous. One man even exclaimed 'good lord don't come out if you have a cough!' I found myself telling him it's caused by the bloody mask and not to be so patronising! People assume every cough is Covid like no other ailments exist anymore!

NorbertMeubles · 16/12/2020 17:37

My 87 year old dad coughs constantly. He has Asthma. I've had to warn him that he will be judged if he goes out.

Effitall · 16/12/2020 17:37

Not all coughs are Covid, not all with COVID will have a cough.

Maybe she needs food
Maybe she’s tested negative
Maybe it’s a chronic cough
Maybe she’s got no one to go shopping for her
Maybe you should be less judgmental and stick to online shopping

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 16/12/2020 17:58

I had a chest infection with a cough that hung around for weeks after the infection was cleared up.

I had to go out, no one else to do my shopping and couldn't get an online slot. My cough sounded awful, but I was as discreet as I could be and just got on with it 🤷‍♀️ Maybe the lady you saw was the same. Not all coughs are covid.

Shocked that you haven't been out since March!

daisyjgrey · 16/12/2020 18:03

I have a cough at the minute, I tested negative yesterday.

I still have to buy food.

TheGremlinsAreComing · 16/12/2020 18:06

To add, single parent here with no one to go shopping for me and no chance of an online delivery. If I don't go shopping, we don't eat.

I have a lung condition that means my coughs usually last for 3-4 weeks or more. Sadly I don't think my work would be too happy if I tried to stay off for that long with a mild cold!

Some of us don't have any choice. I've had a hacking cough since March, caused by allergies and made worse by stress and wearing a mask. I'm not staying in indefinitely!
MrsMomoa · 16/12/2020 18:30

Why should people stay out of shops just because they cough?
Coughs were around a long time before Covid!
How's about having some empathy for a fellow human being and not being so hysterical?!

Crakeandoryx · 16/12/2020 18:32

She's more likely not to have covid and just be coughing. I'm isolating at the moment waiting for test results of DC. I've just tried to get a delivery for food, not a chance. Click and collect are all full as well so I literally have no way of getting food shopping for Christmas. I will find a way and thankfully I've finished my Xmas shopping but the lady your talking about may not have the options I have.

Please try to remember it's far from easy or straight forward for a lot of people! Don't be so quick to judge.

vodkaredbullgirl · 16/12/2020 18:36

Not heard of long covid op????

Lol I have been out since March even managed to fit a weeks holiday in I certainly was not hysterical about it just noted how a once normal occurrence could make you feel ill at ease Probably if I was under 50 I wouldn’t have given it a second thought but I am a grandmother Never mind back to delivery have them book into January
