My local hospital is overwhelmed

Local hospital has tonight said that is struggling with the number of covid 19 patients and is asking people to think carefully whether they actually need to go to hospital.

I'm so worried. Surely the Christmas mixing when we're already in trouble is going to be an absolute disaster?

The vaccine has been such good news yet it still feels like we've got so much further to go.

Not sure why I'm posting, just needed to vent

Can I ask whereabouts in the country you are?

isitsnowingyet · 12/12/2020 20:44

Oh dear - where in the UK are you OP?

isitsnowingyet · 12/12/2020 20:45

In Lancashire numbers had gone down - even though we’re still tier 3

Coolieloach · 12/12/2020 20:46

Same here in South Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

FippertyGibbett · 12/12/2020 20:46

Not everyone will be mixing, I won’t.
Just because we can doesn’t mean we should.

Bridecilla · 12/12/2020 20:47

I can't understand all the reports about numbers dropping. I've heard of more cases and more achool closures this last week than ever before locally (North East) my department is fully online next week as we can no longer cope with illness / isolation levels

OliveTree75 · 12/12/2020 20:47

My friend is a nurse and said the same thing yesterday. But she said the problem is people testing positive left, right and centre on all the other wards

ImAllOut · 12/12/2020 20:48

Ours in South Wales have been saying that for at least two weeks if that's any consolation...

WeirdWomble · 12/12/2020 20:51

I'm in South Wales.

Perhaps the same one as ImAllOut and I've just not noticed the posts before

WeirdWomble · 12/12/2020 20:52

@FippertyGibbett I won't be either

Yep! I'm in South Wales too and all non urgent ops have now been cancelled . I hope those working in the ABHB are ok.
WeirdWomble · 12/12/2020 20:56

Yes ABHB. Maybe I'm just a bit behind on the news

ballsdeep · 12/12/2020 20:58

I think they'll make an announcement soon about a lockdown. The health board is worse now than it was in march and April and numbers are spiralling!!!

ImAllOut · 12/12/2020 21:02

Yes we are ABUHB. If it helps my grandmother was in hospital for a week in a covid ward with them last week and is absolutely fine. The staff were too busy to answer the phone which was a bit of a nightmare when wanting an update on her condition (no phone signal or WiFi!) but other than that she said they were all lovely, just busy.

WeirdWomble · 12/12/2020 21:04

Glad to hear your grandmother is ok Flowers

ImAllOut · 12/12/2020 21:20

Thank you. Unfortunately this situation is inevitable really as Aneurin Bevan is serving all of the worst hit counties in Wales. Caerphilly, Torfaen, Blaenau Gwent, Newport and even Monmouthshire have high figures at the moment.

WeirdWomble · 12/12/2020 21:22

yes it is. That's why I think the Christmas mixing is absolutely crazy when our cases are so high

OP posts:
StatisticalSense · 12/12/2020 21:24

@ballsdeep
You mean like the overly draconian one that they attempted last month that had no effect?
Unless politicians are willing to shut schools there is absolutely no point in attempting a lock down that just fucks over the economy.

MarshaBradyo · 12/12/2020 21:24

That is worrying. Christmas mixing is crazy to me too.

ImAllOut · 12/12/2020 21:28

Noone will adhere to anything other than a full lockdown so it's pointless. Also I actually think the increase in cases is having the opposite effect on people's mindset. I think people now know more people who have personally tested positive than they did in the initial outbreak but who have had no symptoms, so just think it's not that big a deal anyway.

Kitcat122 · 12/12/2020 21:34

We normally have a big Christmas. Not this year just us.

BBC News - Covid-19: Welsh ambulance patient waits 19 hours outside hospital
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-55289448
I should add to my previous post actually that although she received excellent care, it took 20 hours for an ambulance to get my grandmother. There were 10 ambulances stacked outside when my grandfather made the 999 call as advised by his GP. He was told not to drive her himself but to wait.

WeirdWomble · 12/12/2020 21:47

Shock now that is scary. He's got suspected sepsis or stroke and he's waited 19hrs!!!

OP posts:
londongirl12 · 12/12/2020 21:51

Playing devil's advocate, aren't hospitals usually extremely busy this time of year anyway? I remember ever winter our local one in kent has ambulances queuing

DeeDimer · 12/12/2020 21:52

I thought you might be ABUHB...it's been on my Facebook all day. I can't imagine what fresh place on hell A&E in the Grange must be.
