Downing Street to hold press conference this afternoon

UK government Health Secretary Matt Hancock is to host a virtual press conference from Downing Street later today, it's just been confirmed.

He is going to be joined by NHS England national medical director Steve Powis and chief medical adviser Chris Whitty.

Were we expecting one today?

No idea if it was scheduled. Possibly to clear up any questions about the changes to vaccination (wrt allergies)

London to Tier 3?

They do them regularly.....

If you have an allergy that means you carry an EpiPen then you shouldn't have the Pfizer vaccine.

They seem to sneak one in most Thursdays, I assume if it was anything big it would have been leaked? Thanks for heads up I didn't know about this one

Unless its to say all restrictions are to be lifted or people in their 30s can be vaccinated or the Oxford vaccine has been approved then I'm not interested.

Alas, it won't be Boris. Perhaps Hancock will be able to turn up on time and not 10 mins after it's supposed to start.

I thought they'd been having about one a week recently.

(Or perhaps it just seems like they're always happening as the days blur in to each other?)

Maybe it's early re-tiering, or there's going to be an MHRA AZ announcement any second, or changes to Xmas rules, or just a Pfizer rollout update

I'd have thought it might be a 'FGS can you stop whatever it is you are doing that's making the numbers go up again' but I'd assume Boris would do that.

They could be doing it from an NHS/overwhelming the healthcare services point of view I suppose.

Today is 14 days from the announcement of the tiers at the end of lockdown 2 I always thought this was when we would be having the two week appraisal until they said that wouldn't be until the 16th.
Maybe it's being snuck out on the original schedule to avoid media leaks, as last time they got quite shirty in the parliament about people finding out from the news first

I think it would be Boris if they’re putting London in to tier 3, Hancock will probably be crying about the vaccine or similar

There’s been one every Thursday for a while now. There’s no reason to think there’s anything behind this.

Let’s face it, if there was big news, Leaky McLeakface Hancock would have briefed the press.

My guess It’s the “behave yourself or your going up a tier” warning for London, whilst knowing it’s actually going up next week.
