Are you ready to go back to outdoor group exercise?

We are Tier 2 but do seem to have had a surge of cases in the last couple of weeks. I know more people who currently have it than I've known through the entire thing since March, which I accept is probably in part due to more testing.

However, outdoor exercise in controlled conditions and small groups feels fairly safe to me.

I'm a coach at a sports club (for adults) we were hopintog et back, within the guidelines next week but are finding many of our coaches are feeling too anxious to lead a group, although we were running at full strength until the start of this current lockdown.

Are you feeling more anxious now than at the beginning of November?

Our running group is starting up again even though we're tier 3. I'm a bit surprised but still going to go.

HundredMilesAnHour · 28/11/2020 22:54

I can't wait to get back to group exercise. I have really missed it, even the socially distanced version.

I don't feel more anxious now. Probably less anxious actually but apprehensive about the impact Christmas will have and hoping we don't end up locked down again with gyms closed.

Yes, I think people are more worried about having to isolate as a result of going to club than they are about catching anything.

Unfortunately there is an element of having to trust the people you do group classes with not to be out breaking the rules and putting us all at risk in class. I think that is too worrying for some people and they will still keep away from group exercise.

IrkedEssex · 28/11/2020 23:42

I don't do group exercise but I will be straight back into a gym which also does group exercise and we will all be sharing the changing rooms.

It all worked very well last time so I see no reason why it shouldn't be fine this time round.

SufferingFromLongLockdown · 29/11/2020 07:34

I don't see any problem with outdoor exercise. We know outdoors is safe

JacobReesMogadishu · 29/11/2020 07:38

I’ve given up with feeling anxious. I’m in tier 3, I’ll be back in the gym in Weds. the gym are getting a marquee so we can have “outdoor” classes. Can’t wait.

I'm off back to indoor next week, can't bloody wait.

RumHoney · 29/11/2020 08:00

I would, but not before Christmas as I'm trying to limit contacts as far as possible before I see my grandmother. After that, yes.

borageforager · 29/11/2020 08:03

I’ve given up worrying about any of it. Can’t wait for running club to start again.

whatswithtodaytoday · 29/11/2020 08:04

I would be ok with outdoor as long as you can keep a reasonable distance, but would probably avoid a group in case of being tracked and told to isolate - I have a toddler and the thought of two weeks in our house in winter is not fun.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 29/11/2020 11:32

I can't wait to go back to bootcamp. But then I have had Covid in November so in a way I feel a bit more protected. I won't be doing indoor groups though, not because I fear I'll catch it but because I fear someone else will and I'll have to isolate for 14 days again

OrangeBananaFish · 29/11/2020 14:58

Can't wait. Keep looking for updates from running club and my outdoor bootcamp, but so far nothing. Then again my running club is in tier 3 and before lockdown 2.0 they did say if the area went into tier 3 then they wouldn't be on (they were in tier 2 before lockdown). Im close to the border and in tier 2 as is my bootcamp, but I've not heard anything there yet either. I'll be at both as soon as they come back.

PhilCornwall1 · 29/11/2020 15:00

Got an email today saying we'll be back in person this week. Can't wait!!!

cologne4711 · 29/11/2020 15:04

Our club starts its outdoor group runs next weekend. I will be very pleased to get back although I can't go to the first one because of an [expletive] Zoom Christmas party that evening. I'd rather go for a run, but had to commit to the party before we knew for certain that things would be restarting in December.

I'm not sure I would rush back to indoor activities but that has more to do with track and trace as a pp said.

I am surprised coaches are worried about doing things outside. But you don't need them - people can meet up for runs up to 6 people in all tiers (under England Athletics rules) - they just wouldn't have structure.

cologne4711 · 29/11/2020 15:05

test and trace

onedayinthefuture · 29/11/2020 16:20

The outdoor netball leagues are starting back up, it's a very close contact sport.

BogRollBOGOF · 29/11/2020 16:34

I'm doing an extra one Wednesday evening to make up for the ones missed. The instructor has done her usual schedule on Zoom, but I'm no fan of leaping around the living room and like being with real people.

I've got no issue with being outside. Even on a "still" day, there are still air movements that rapidly diffuse and damage the virus to make it very low risk unless you're practically moving in to snog someone, which I wouldn't anyway Grin

A coach shouldn't have issues keeping to 2m away anyway.

CMOTDibbler · 29/11/2020 17:23

I can't wait. But my outdoor sports venue is a lake, so during lockdown I've been chucking myself in the river (safely, with one other person) to swim, so I'll be very glad to be able to get out of the water with slightly more elegance and without an audience of fishermen and dog walkers.

SufferingFromLongLockdown · 29/11/2020 17:52

I've been swimming off a beach in a pair. A few other pairs of people have seemed to have the same idea.

PilatesPeach · 29/11/2020 17:59

I am an instructor aqua, studio & yoga - tier 2 - 20 classes a week and am back inside from Wednesday I cannot wait! I shall wear a mask in the clubs other than when teaching. No way could I teach outdoors as I don't teach bootcamps etc - can't do yoga outside in December in England! People much closer in shops than at clubs.

satnighttakeaway · 29/11/2020 18:01

I wish my indoor activity could start up again, my level of anxiety (v little) hasn't changed since March, my biggest risk factor is covid coming home with a school child but I can't do anything about that, a properly exercise group is a tiny risk imo

megletthesecond · 29/11/2020 18:04

Yes. My gym teacher has 3 of us in their garden for bootcamp sessions. Loads of space and really safe. Can't slack either when she's watching us like a hawk.

I won't go back to indoor gym for months and I wouldn't do parkrun if it starts early in the spring, not keen on running through other people's breath for a while yet 🤢.

loulouljh · 29/11/2020 18:07

Feel far from anxious...feel bored and frustrated. Yes would have no issue with group outside exercise.

Changi · 29/11/2020 18:20

I'm not ready for outdoor group exercise but I'll be back inside the gym on Wednesday.

Too cold for outside.
