I’m getting very confused about when all this is actually over watching Boris and his statement in the commons Blush and a quick google makes it no clearer!

On which day will I be able to walk out of my front door and no longer be under lockdown? Wednesday 2nd or Thursday 3rd?

Boris just seemed to imply Wednesday, and my daughters gymnastics have said the same. But I assumed it would be the Thursday because then it’s 4 whole weeks.

Confused!!! Halloween Confused

@cologne4711 yes, I'm hoping we will be tier 1 - we were before, and rates are stable locally at present at around 150 per 100,000 and the hospitals have plenty of capacity. So I'll make a final decision on Thursday when we know our tier, but I'm hopeful. Its only 2 friends, and they are in the same class at school, so it's as 'Covid safe' as I can make it!

LaurieFairyCake · 23/11/2020 16:37

Lol

Only in Britain would we have a 24 hour gap where no one knows what the FUCK is going on

Iwantacookie · 23/11/2020 16:41

I thought it was the Thursday too. Fuck it I'll go shopping on the friday when I know they will be open Grin

Itisasecret · 23/11/2020 16:44

Can I go to the balloon shop on Wednesday the 2nd. That’s all I want to know. Please and thank you.

Avery7 · 23/11/2020 16:46

Which tier do you reckon London will be in?

alphasox · 23/11/2020 16:52

I’m so glad someone else is confused. I came here to post this. We have a hairdressing salon and don’t know whether we can get customers booked in on the 2nd or 3rd. Having read this thread I still don’t feel confident I know the answer Confused

timeforanewstart · 23/11/2020 16:52

Reckon most will start tier 2,3 not many tiers 1 , that will be something to aim for

timeforanewstart · 23/11/2020 16:53

Isn't he on at 7pm tonight

alphasox · 23/11/2020 16:55

But which midnight @BecomeStronger?
Midnight at the start of the 2nd so we are all free to open on the 2nd in the morning or midnight at the end of the 2nd so we can’t open until the 3rd?
Baffling.

Letseatgrandma · 23/11/2020 16:55

I think the pubs and restaurants in Tier 2 will struggle to get anyone in them if you can only go with people in your household??

If I wanted a drink and a meal with DH-we’ll go in the kitchen or get a takeaway if we don’t want to cook. I feel sorry for them as they’re open, but not really open.

HotChocolate12 · 23/11/2020 16:59

I thought things couldn’t reopen until the Thursday?

MrsFezziwig · 23/11/2020 17:03

Wednesday, Thursday, Pancake Day....I’ve lost all ability to differentiate 🤷‍♀️

louisejxxx · 23/11/2020 17:10

The Sun says 12.01am on Wednesday 2nd. As it’s The Sun, I’m not really sure if that’s helpful information or not 😂

@Avery7 London and se are only areas with growing infection rates according to the report I was reading, take from that what you will. Just check my local area and we are 30% decrease week on week so hoping for tier 1 for the local pubs sake

Augustbreeze · 23/11/2020 17:12

Well they've said we don't find out tiers until Thursday so that kind of implies Friday???

ReindeersAreBetterThanHumans · 23/11/2020 17:15

Wednesday 2nd at one minute past midnight. www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.lbc.co.uk/politics/the-news-explained/when-does-england-go-into-a-second-lockdown-end-date/

I am still confused even looking at the Winter Plan document. It talks about the current restrictions ending on 2nd December, and new tiers being from 2nd December, so maybe it is things opening on the 2nd?

TicTacTwo · 23/11/2020 17:28

@Augustbreeze

Well they've said we don't find out tiers until Thursday so that kind of implies Friday???
This Thursday is 26th November so enough time until 2 December
Deelish75 · 23/11/2020 17:28

We find out what Tiers we are in on Thursday 26 Nov. Those Tiers come into force at one midnight past midnight on Weds 2 Dec - we’re being given 5 days notice.

Tues 1 Dec at 11.59pm = lockdown.
Two minutes later on Weds 2 Dec at 00.01 = Tiers

girasol · 23/11/2020 17:38

This is not even remotely a stupid question.

I was actually researching it this morning as I was told my kids swimming lessons would commence on Wednesday 2 December, but most other businesses seem to be reopening on Thursday 3rd so I was similarly confused about when the lockdown ends (how it's not completely clear to all concerned is beyond me!!!)

Because I'm a nerdy lawyer I actually looked up the law and this is what the relevant statutory instrument (the catchily entitled Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England)(No. 4) Regulations 2020) says
"Expiry
23.—(1) These Regulations expire at the end of the period of 28 days beginning with the day on
which they come into force."

The lockdown came into effect a 00:01 on Thursday 5 November. Counting 28 days including 5 November, that takes us to 00:01 on Thursday 3 December, meaning the lockdown should still be in place all day on Wednesday 2 December. Otherwise it's a day less than four weeks/28 days which would be odd and not what we've been told all along.

Whether there has been a deliberate change in the government's stance (which need another statutory instrument to bring it into force I'd have thought) I don't know but I suspect it's just typical BoJo flubbering/confusion and he has about as much clue about what is going on as he usually does.

I have seen press reports suggesting that it ends at 00:01 on Wednesday 2nd but unless they're privvy to something I'm not that must be wrong.

Personally I will take some persuading that my kids can indeed go swimming on the 2nd but we shall see!

Itisasecret · 23/11/2020 17:40

Happy days! I’m booking my nails and eyebrows in for the 2nd.

TicTacTwo · 23/11/2020 17:42

I'd book the 3rd to be safe!

SuperbGorgonzola · 23/11/2020 17:45

The language in the newspapers suggests the second.

Augustbreeze · 23/11/2020 17:46

Ah, geddit, thanks @Deelish75

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 23/11/2020 17:51

They really need to stop saying things change at midnight and start using 4am or something. No one knows what day midnight is on!

Obviously at the moment none of us know which week we’re in either, and quite a lot of us are struggling to know what month this is, as well. Bring back town criers.
