Caught Covid outside? :(

My husband has been working from home for months.
We don’t go to a supermarket we have food delivered and we always wipe it down.

Since lockdown began the only places we have been is for a walk.

I take my DS for a walk to our local park most days. (Only a baby so we don’t use the play area)

On Tuesday I met up with a friend and we went for a walk around a local lake.
It was quite busy but I never had close contact with anyone.
A few runners did run past quite close though.

Me and my friend distanced the whole time.

Before our walk we visited the cafe for a takeaway coffee. It’s all done outside so we didn’t have to go in.

I did drink from a disposable coffee cup but sanitised my hands when I’d finished, washed hands when I got home.

This morning I’ve got a sore throat and a tickly cough. 😖
I’ve ordered a test.

@Oxyiz

It'll be interesting to see what your result is OP, purely as you're probably one of a minority who has been really really careful.

I sometimes get sore throats and coughs from silent acid reflux.

@Oxyiz

I also suffer from reflux, but this sore throat is just at one side.

The first person I know who caught covid was living alone and shielding. She didnt leave the house, and the only people she saw were delivery guys. Its possible to catch it from very fleeting interactions, or objects, but not likely.
Hope you get well soon, whatever you've caught.

Posturesorposes · 21/11/2020 10:48

Jesus Christ. This thread and it’s title. You’ve got a sore throat and a cough in November? Wow. Stop the press.

Understandingnotignorance · 21/11/2020 10:49

It sounds like a common cold op. It's cold weather at the moment and you were outside so it makes sense. It's hard as due to these times even the first sign of anything your mind immediately goes to covid. I know how anxiety inducing it is but hope you aren't worrying too much.

dizzydizzydizzy · 21/11/2020 10:51

I expect it’s a normal bug, like a cold. Hope you feel better soon.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 21/11/2020 10:51

@Threelittlegins

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants
There are so many ways in the the little you've described, that you could have caught Covid.

It's much more likely to be a cold though.

Take care
Let us know how you go.
@WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants

Do you mean there are so many ways I could’ve caught it or so many ways I couldn’t have?

Could HAVE as I typed.
(Though fair enough to ask as I have a very naughty iPhone that changes stuff to please itself!!)

AcornAutumn · 21/11/2020 10:51

@endofthelinefinally

What I don't understand is why, if we are all following the rules, people are still catching colds? (The common cold is a corona virus). It would be interesting to know what the incidence of the common cold actually is atm.
Because virus gonna virus.

Before covid I was considered a freak for constant handwashing, nasal rinse after work etc.

But this is a whole new level.

We cannot hide away, see no one and assume we will never get covid.

SoupDragon · 21/11/2020 10:51

There is nothing wrong with the title. It has a question mark which means it's a question. 🙄

IntoP20 · 21/11/2020 10:52

Very misleading thread title

HumanFemale1 · 21/11/2020 10:52

Covid is hardly the only reason for a sore throat and a tickly cough.

I don't understand why you would order a test, you're not going anywhere so even if you are positive you cannot pass it on to somewhere else.

It's people like you who are the reason why we're back in lockdown, you're driving the cases up while being not only healthy but not in danger of passing it on to someone else. I despair

Threelittlegins · 21/11/2020 10:53

@Posturesorposes

Don’t really see the need for your sarcasm.

Can you see the ? In my title.

I was asking a question.

Got the heating on? Dusty in your house? Dry air?

SD1978 · 21/11/2020 10:53

Given all your stated risk reduction- the likelihood of COVID is minimal- all the usual winter viruses are still around, and much more likely to be what you have.

JinglingHellsBells · 21/11/2020 10:54

@DangerMouse17

If you've been hiding away and cleaning everything that comes into the home, then I expect your immune system hasn't been asked of much over lockdown, so as soon as you come into contact with any germ you may get ill with a bug or usual winter cold etc.
That's not how the immune system works Hmm

A cold virus mutates all the time and that's why there is no cure for the common cold. The fact someone has not had one for ages (due to being inside) makes no difference at all.

PurpleDaisies · 21/11/2020 10:54

You haven’t caught covid outside.

What makes you assume I’m healthy.

I actually have 2 health conditions.

How very judgemental of you.

Wankerchief · 21/11/2020 10:56

There's nothing wrong with the title if you can actually read.

Perhaps everyone else just needs to grow up and shop getting hysterical over a title in the internet... and increase there reading book band age.

timeforanewstart · 21/11/2020 10:56

People saying caught a cold outside , colds are also a virus you don't catch a cold from just being outside

Beccatheboo · 21/11/2020 10:56

This is why I have refused to be anxious about Covid. I’ve followed rules but I haven’t been paranoid. I believe in fate and if I’m going to catch it (after being sensible), I’m going to catch it.

Although highly unlikely, you could have caught this microscopic little virus from the cup. But in that moment you enjoyed the drink and meeting up with your friend. We have one short life and I’d like to enjoy mine (not killing granny in the process, in case someone starts). I ate out to help out and enjoyed the meals I ate. I watched a couple of movies (supporting our tiny independent cinema in the process). I had a haircut (the sole customer). I even visited a couple of theme parks with my children (shock horror!).

HerculesMuligan · 21/11/2020 10:57

Breathe...and relax. The tension and anxiety radiates from your posts. Have you felt this level of anxiety since March?!

As others have said chances are it’s a regular cold or cough. And - despite what your anxiety and the media are telling you - even if it is Covid the risks of you becoming seriously ill or worse are very very low.

SoupDragon · 21/11/2020 10:57

you're driving the cases up

No she isn't.

SoupDragon · 21/11/2020 10:58

The tension and anxiety radiates from your posts

And from those of many of the people replying!

PurpleDaisies · 21/11/2020 10:58

This is why I have refused to be anxious about Covid.

I don’t think anxiety necessarily works that way.

PurpleDaisies · 21/11/2020 10:59

How?!!!

Threelittlegins · 21/11/2020 10:59

@HerculesMuligan

The tension and anxiety radiates from your posts. Have you felt this level of anxiety since March?!

To be honest I feel more anxious about the responses than I do my test results.

Having people tell me I’m paranoid, I’m misleading, I’m driving up the cases.... 🙄
