Caught Covid outside? :(

My husband has been working from home for months.
We don’t go to a supermarket we have food delivered and we always wipe it down.

Since lockdown began the only places we have been is for a walk.

I take my DS for a walk to our local park most days. (Only a baby so we don’t use the play area)

On Tuesday I met up with a friend and we went for a walk around a local lake.
It was quite busy but I never had close contact with anyone.
A few runners did run past quite close though.

Me and my friend distanced the whole time.

Before our walk we visited the cafe for a takeaway coffee. It’s all done outside so we didn’t have to go in.

I did drink from a disposable coffee cup but sanitised my hands when I’d finished, washed hands when I got home.

This morning I’ve got a sore throat and a tickly cough. 😖
I’ve ordered a test.

whotheyell Sorry maybe I’m missing something but what is the girl doing wrong and what relevance is it that her parents are cops?

Delatron · 23/11/2020 14:54

She’s allowed to play in her front garden. It’s good for her to get some fresh air and exercise. Maybe she prefers the front garden? Feel free to report a child for playing in their garden whilst isolating...

Threelittlegins · 23/11/2020 16:36

@ssd

That'll be another dramatic thread

Nasal Damage from covid test? sad

Fuck you. Seriously.

I don’t need arsey fucking comments like this.

I posted here as I was feeling anxious.
More so about how I could’ve caught ANYTHING with the precautions I’ve been taking.

I’m a new mum, had a tough year (as have we all) and I actually came here for some support.

So many of you on this thread have quite frankly been bloody awful to me.

OP posts:
MissingTwinkle · 23/11/2020 16:46

This thread is a right load of shite. 17 pages of someone talking about Covid when they haven't even had it confirmed they've got Covid. Confused

Give it up, OP.

captainprincess · 23/11/2020 17:43

@Threelittlegins I don't know why people are jumping on you. Like I said previously I don't think your thread title was at all misleading. And like others, I am still interested to know the results, so please do update.

captainprincess · 23/11/2020 17:44

Obviously update when you know, I'm not demanding an update Grin

Smurf123 · 23/11/2020 17:53

Also think you are being given a very hard time when not needed.
Only going on outdoor walks seems the most sensible thing to do atm. Obv if you can't get online food then go to the shop but no need for unessential journeys.
Hope you are feeling better soon and get the results through soon enough

Give it up, OP.

If you adjust your settings, it's only five pages. Maybe that would make you feel better?

Or just don't read it?

MummaPI · 23/11/2020 22:28

@Threelittlegins there seems to be some nasty pieces of work on here lately. Most people give good advice so ignore the rest. Why they bother to post something horrible is beyond me.

TheSilence · 23/11/2020 22:34

People have been so vile. I’m sure when I joined MN 5 years ago it wasn’t like this.

Hope you’re ok OP, I understand the anxiety Flowers

rainbowstardrops · 24/11/2020 07:20

I can never understand why people pile on when it's clear that somebody just wants advice or reassurance. Maybe they think they're 'hard' or being clever? I just think they look like idiots.

If you can't post anything constructive on these sorts of posts then maybe just roll your eyes and move on, instead of making someone feel worse.

Vile behaviour.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 24/11/2020 10:26

Hope you get a negative result op.

Oxyiz · 24/11/2020 10:43

Yeah its also just weird, pretending that its not possible and you're mad to think it might be. It is and you're not.

It's still better to get out and about then to stay indoors of course, even with the low risks.

Oxyiz · 24/11/2020 10:44

In the old days Mumsnet would have posted a "peace and love" type message. They tend not to do that anymore.

99victoria · 24/11/2020 11:13

On the subject of runners and the terrible risk everyone seems to think they pose in the 1 or 2 seconds it takes to pass someone, the other thing to bear in mind is that if someone is running past you at speed it's highly unlikely that they have covid! I know it's possible to be asymptomatic or incubating but generally people don't go out for a run if they've got a cough or shortness of breath or a temperature!

Strawberry33 · 24/11/2020 11:22

You don’t know when you could have caught whatever it is- incubation period can vary hugely.

Well quite. And even if you don't appear to have any symptoms, you may well notice something isn't right when running.

I've donated blood since I was 18. I didn't realise that it had any effect on me whatsoever until I started running. Donated on a Friday, did parkrun on the Saturday. Oh dear, it was so hard. It doesn't affect me swimming - I think because it's short bursts, and cycling isn't as hard. Anyway I digress a bit but my point is that if you run, you may well feel symptoms when others would not. But that doesn't fit the narrative of the nasty virus shedding joggers who deliberately run at passers-by.

If someone can post evidence on here that outside transmission is not just possible, but likely, in the OP's scenario, then you may have a point.

The OP's test result is taking a very long time to come back!

VanGoghsDog · 24/11/2020 11:57

@cologne4711

You're being really unpleasant and unnecessary.

My niece ordered a test on a Tuesday, got the physical test on the Friday, sent it off that day, got the result the following Monday. So, no, the OP's test is not taking an unusually long time, even if the test stuff worked quickly, the post does not.

that doesn't fit the narrative of the nasty virus shedding joggers who deliberately run at passers-by.

This "narrative" does not exist. Noone thinks runners are infecting people generally. You're clearly upset about something different.

ScottishStottie · 24/11/2020 12:16

I think the reason why the op is having such a hard time here is that its spreading worry which is un-needed at this time.

Im not saying that the op isnt allowed to post, but that perhaps careful wording should have been chosen, to avoid causing extra stress and anxiety in others.

There are plenty of people who are extremely anxious about all this and are barely leaving their homes. Outside space might be their only relief from constant worry.

Even if the op has been unfortunate enough to catch covid outdoors, it doesn't change the fact that its extremely unlikely ( not impossible) and that people shouldn't start avoiding the outdoors at all.

But the wording of the op could cause a large amount of worry to someone who is already extremely anxious about the situation we are currently in.

Oxyiz · 24/11/2020 13:28

You're just deliberately being mean and goady. If I were the OP I probably wouldn't come back at this stage for yet another hammering.

Do feel free to Google "can you catch Covid-19 outside" and you'll see that yes, it is possible.

TheSilence · 24/11/2020 14:44

@Oxyiz

Yes I’ve noticed they do that less. And that the spiteful comments have got even more common. Obviously it’s not an issue to disagree with someone and debate etc, but the amount of pure nastiness I see on here now is disturbing.
eenymeenyminyme · 24/11/2020 15:21

Did you get your test result yet OP? Hope it's negative!

In hindsight it would have probably saved you a lot of stress if you'd waited for the result before you posted...

Riv12345 · 24/11/2020 21:42

Op hope you're ok

fluffi · 24/11/2020 21:57

@Threelittlegins Sorry that people are being mean and dismissive - hope you get a negative result.
