Anyone else got to the shops and cried because they forgot their mask?

Yep. Done just that. Could of sworn I packed it and I normally carry a spare. So burst into tears outside Tesco.

Sometimes I feel I just cant do this anymore! Pathetic I know.

Well I didn't cry, I just ran in, picked up a pack of masks, opened it and put one on then paid for it with my shopping.

Longdistance · 20/11/2020 17:09

Nice one @IncludeWomenInTheSequel

islockdownoveryet · 20/11/2020 17:10

Yeah I would've just said can I buy a one ?
I've forgotten one or twice but luckily I have one in my car , coat pocket , bag .
I bet many shops have had people say I've forgotten and let them buy some .
What did you do ?

FelicityPike · 20/11/2020 17:10

@IncludeWomenInTheSequel

I told the first staff member I could see and they told me to do exactly the same as @IncludeWomenInTheSequel. No big deal.
WithIcePlease · 20/11/2020 17:13

Not shops but went to get bus to get to railway station. Nearby shop had sold out so had to go home and get a cab
Luckily just on time

hellymissy · 20/11/2020 17:16

Just go I store without and buy some straight away next time!! They'll be fine with that or ask them to fetch them for you

sherrystrull · 20/11/2020 17:16

It's not pathetic op. They're easy to forget and obviously you want to follow the rules as best you can. We keep a pack of disposables in the car and keep a pack by the front door with the keys to help us remember.

LooneyLovefood · 20/11/2020 17:18

I've got to the shops twice and realised I've forgotten my mask. Both times I've just ran in, grabbed a pack of masks and put one straight on my face before paying for them with my shop once I've finished it. The first time was easy as the display of masks was right beside the door. The second time I couldn't find them at first so got a little bit stressed worrying but that eased as soon as I found the masks.

SweetMilkyFilth · 20/11/2020 17:21

If you forget your mask at a tesco just ask the person at the door and we'll get you a pack while you wait at the entrance. This is the policy for all tesco stores.

Bikingbear · 20/11/2020 17:27

Sainsbury's have the same policy.

I'd take a guess most shops are the same

InFiveMins · 20/11/2020 17:30

No Confused

Just ask for a mask or buy one as soon as you enter.....

formerbabe · 20/11/2020 17:32

Can you pull your coat up over your mouth or use a scarf?

wherethewillowsgrow · 20/11/2020 17:42

I guess the crying was less about the mask and more about how tough life is atm?!

PurpleDaisies · 20/11/2020 17:44

Next time ask someone on the door. It’s easily done.

Mindymomo · 20/11/2020 17:48

Now whenever we go out, we have a check list, keys, masks, phone, debit card or if we have the dog poo bags and treats are added.

Isitrainingihadntnoticed · 20/11/2020 17:51

I know, I'm reading too much into the media and people getting arrested for all this covid related stuff and think security will frog march me out if I walk in without. I wear a mask 10hrs a day at work 6 days a week at the mo as I work in a hospital. We get bollocked if we walk beyond reception without one so I think it's making me feel weird in the outside world. Even when I'm running and a police car goes past I'm like...I'm not wearing me mask! Xx

Our local Sainsbury's has a manned table in the entrance, across from the sanitising table, with individually wrapped masks (I assume for sale rather than free) for people who have forgotten their mask.

Love51 · 20/11/2020 18:33

I didn't have a mask early after they were introduced. I let my child go into the local shop to buy something, which was fine, I'm all for encouraging independence. He came out of the shop with something else so I had to go back and change it. I fashioned a mask out of a school jumper. That's the shop between my house and my school. They know I'm not exempt. If it was a massive superstore I'd probably just brazen it out if I couldn't buy one.
You don't technically need a mask, just to cover your mouth and nose.

Don't blame you for crying though. We all have days when life gets overwhelming!

AlwaysLatte · 20/11/2020 19:11

The rule is 'Face covering' not mask so presumably although it's not ideal a scarf or something over nose and mouth would do the same job while you shop for one.

Susanwouldntlikeit · 20/11/2020 19:14

Yes it is pathetic.
You could just
~ go in without one -they probably won’t challenge you

  • buy one
  • put any old thing you have with you to cover your nose and mouth
upsidedownwavylegs · 20/11/2020 19:15

Our Tesco has signs up saying to tell a staff member if you’ve not got a mask. My friend forgot hers in the first week they were compulsory, she told the staff member on the door and he replied “no problem love, on you go” Grin

Oblomov20 · 20/11/2020 19:17

I did. Was so cross. Normally have a spare in my car. Drove home in anger and got one, and got the one marked 'car spare' aswell!

BillyAndTheSillies · 20/11/2020 19:18

Our Tesco has masks in packets right by the front door and the sign says something along the lines of "please use in store and pay for them with your shopping".

pinkbalconyrailing · 20/11/2020 19:20

one supermarket near me gives out masks if you forgot one. you are then handed a piece of paper with a barcode for 50cents to pay with your shopping.
