Does anyone know when we will know by? I know this week is too soon, but will they let us know next week? It is for planning purposes.

Also, does anyone know how likely it is that lockdown will end when they say? I'm havent heard much myself. Thanks

I’m wondering about what they do about the CEV after 2nd Dec. The letter I got said that they’d write again before this Lockdown ends. It will probably tell us to stay put.

Also re lockdown in January...again Boris would have to get it past an increasingly sceptical party AND the chancellor who has to pay for it all. In a way there's a Catch 22 for the people who will argue for a third lockdown in January....if a month's lockdown is genuinely effective, another one won't be needed in January. If a month's lockdown is so ineffective that we ARE seen to need another one in January, than we're looking at a fourth bloody lockdown in March or whenever and then it really is just unsustainable and unaffordable and compliance will fall off a cliff. So January might happen but I wouldn't bet on it or eat myself up worrying about it personally?

Splodgetastic · 20/11/2020 12:05

I don’t want a lockdown in January as it’s my birthday.

Pellewsmate · 20/11/2020 12:17

Really surprised that no one is mentioning the stupidity of lifting lockdown on the first Saturday in December. Surely it would make sense to extend for a few of days so that lockdown is lifted on a Monday - Wednesday to stop many idiots using it as an excuse to get in the festive spirit.

That's probably because its a Thursday not a Saturday.

Hugosmugo · 20/11/2020 12:27

@Splodgetastic it sucks but many people have had lockdown birthdays.

Whoops! I feel really stupid. I'll stop getting angry about this now. Blush

Police is mostly by consent in this country they dont have the manpower to keep us all indoors so im not surprised by them easing restrictions for Christmas but the cynical me is thinking...boris is putting more money into the military there are no "wars" around why is he doing this

ifonly4 · 20/11/2020 12:35

I don't want five days of celebration at the cost of another lockdown, increased cases, lives and jobs Just been speaking to my DD, she says the same. She's rather see the odd friend or even one of her cousins over coffee when she wants over time not within a five day period.

Yes I have been thinking the same.
Hugosmugo · 20/11/2020 12:55

@Pellewsmate don't worry! It is really confusing. Shops will be manic though in December no matter when things ease!

I think the Christmas thing is complex to be honest. I don't want another lockdown either but they need to allow something.. it is ok for families who live together (I.e. parents and kids) but im an adult who doesn't live near family and I have no partner and no children. The thought of not being with at least my parents at Christmas is really rubbish.

I think I've heard it all now.

It's certainly not to station one guard on every door.

Apart from the fact that it's just a ludicrous thought & not at all Boris/Tory 'style'... do you have any idea how long it would take to get a shed load of soldiers recruited & trained?

Have a wee look at the cuts that have been made in previous years & look around globally then you'll be far less surprised he's putting money into the military....

BestOption · 22/11/2020 10:46

The thing is, we can't 'pay for it' in January, because you can't UNDEAD people

I think it's 'rock & hard place' though. Unfortunately a lot of people will mix over Christmas, whatever the rules are, so they'll be searching for a solution which makes them look good, which people will mostly stick to, but does the least damage.

& there isn't an obvious answer.

@Hugosmugo. I live alone too & I've cancelled my long standing Christmas plans and will be spending CD on my own. I don't mind. I hope you can find a way to have a nice day.
