Is it ok to go to a swimming pool?

Are you in the UK? As far as I know, they are shut. Ds's swimming lessons are cancelled.

The only people I know who are still swimming are our swimming teacher who has her own outdoor pool, and the two county swimmers she has been renting it to during lockdown. They each swim at different times.

What do you mean 'is it ok?' If they are open because the rules allow them to be then it's ok.

I would go, they're full of chlorine aren't they. I wish they were open here.

I would think they were as safe as anywhere else and I'm sorry they've had to close. As long as people are distanced and using masks when not exercising then I don't see an issue. I'm sure that the staff are doing everything possible to keep areas sanitised.

I was going before they shut. The pool itself is safe - the chemicals they use to treat the water disables coronavirus. They were limiting numbers in the pool though, lane-swimming only & other restrictions.

The riskiest area is the changing room. My pool was asking us to arrive swim ready and providing hooks poolside so we didn’t need to use the changing room at all if we didn’t want to. Distancing, masks, ventilation & cleaning measures all in place for those who did choose to use the changing rooms.

When they were open, I went, and took my children to lessons as well. We only had about 6 weeks of the pools being open since start of Lockdown 1.

Now it would entail breaking and entering, but if I lived somewhere I could swim, I would.

For about 2 seconds I thought this was true. Amazing ! Now I'm just laughing at how ridiculous this would look.

And yes OP I would definitely go swimming if the pools are open. I'm desperate to!!

100% as soon as pools open up again i'll be straight back in them.

It is is open I would go. Depends on your levels of concern about risk, I suppose.

Depends on your assessment of risk. Just because you can doesn't mean it is safe. Just because you can't doesn't mean it is unsafe.

Still open in Scotland @Mintjulia (or at least they are until some areas hit Tier 4 later in the week when those will close).
Safe is really a scale of risk. It's never going to be completely risk free but if they have measures in place it should be as safe as it's going to get. Personally I'd go.

We went in October (England). I was really impressed. We booked a family swim. 1/4 of main pool exclusive for our family use. We arrived in swimming kit and changed poolside. Afterwards we used changing rooms, but no showers. We will go again when they reopen.
Contact your local pool and see what they are doing. It won't be 'normal'.

Nowhere is 'safe' OP. They might be very low risk indeed, adhere to disinfection protocols etc, but it only takes an asymptomatic person to be in there to spread viral particles. You need to weigh up if you're happy in yourself to go, provided it's open. I personally would not.

We were happily going to swimming lessons right until they closed them, if they are open then I would go.

I wish we could go swimming. As soon as they open again in the UK we'll be back.
