Do you think moving house will be allowed in this supposed new lockdown?

Obviously everything is speculation until the 5pm press conference.

But what do people expect regarding moving house? We are due to complete on November 13th after already being delayed.

Surely they can't let everything grind to a halt?!

I thought they allowed it in the original one?

Grumpetvoluntary · 31/10/2020 16:04

Ah did they? I thought moving was stopped for a couple of months but may be wrong

I think if you had exchanged you could complete. A friend moved a week into lockdown.

We are moving too that week although we already have access to the house. Still planning on going ahead unless it’s definitely banned. I think the removal company will be too.

HairyFloppins · 31/10/2020 16:09

I hope so, we are due to exchange in a couple of weeks.

Iseeyoulookingatme · 31/10/2020 16:10

I hope so as I'm on week 13 and I can't take much more off this, it's been far too stressful for me. God knows why I thought it would be a good idea to move during a pandemic.

I know how you feel. The stress of this is just so much that I don't know how much more I can take. This has been the most stressful week of my life.

We were meant to exchange last week so should be doing so early next week.

Surely this stamp duty holiday shows that the government see people moving house as vital for the economy so it would be insane if they stopped us doing so.

If I were you
I’d be hiring a self drive van

I wish that was an option. However we have a lot of heavy white goods and oak furniture to move along with all the usual like beds and about 40 boxes of stuff. Doing all that on our own with a baby and 2 dogs is going to be impossible.

We're due to move on Friday - with a toddler and a cat, so we have a removals firm booked to pack for us as well. I'm a key worker and no chance of any time off until Friday to start packing. Self move is virtually impossible for us. Oh God......

yearinyearout · 31/10/2020 16:54

What about moving from one rental to another? Dd is moving next weekend (and she will be whatever the rules might be, otherwise she will be homeless)

tappitytaptap · 31/10/2020 16:55

Bloody well better be given the government encouraged people to move with the stamp duty holiday! Fingers and toes crossed for you OP.

CelieandNettie · 31/10/2020 16:58

We moved right in the middle of the first lockdown, everything just took longer as solicitors weren't in the office every day. Had no problem finding a removal company.

Thanks, that's really encouraging

Omg Sad

Tyzz · 31/10/2020 18:10

DS also supposed to be moving from one rental to another next week. The estate agent said today it will still be possible, at least it was last time.

Grumpetvoluntary · 31/10/2020 18:48

Fingers crossed everyone who needs to move, can. Wish they would just hurry up and make the announcement!

Thank you for the words of reassurance/hope Celie and Tappity!

I moved house in June during the first lockdown so I don't see why it shouldn't be allowed this time.

knittingaddict · 31/10/2020 18:55

My daughter moved during lockdown. She is renting, but the agency still did their bit and had hired a removal company.

DownThePlath · 31/10/2020 19:34

We moved into our rental the day after the first lockdown was announced, so I'm certain rental moves should be fine.

Frankiegoes · 31/10/2020 19:42

Construction and manufacturing is still allowed to carry on so I think removals etc will be fine.

Bmidreams · 31/10/2020 20:53

Why doesn't it explicitly say? On the different tier info it did.

Peridot1 · 31/10/2020 22:36

@Jroseforever - I think unless there are police roadblocks removals will still be working. And unless that happens we will move. It’s certainly possible to move house sensibly. Masks, gloves etc.
