What Would Happen Without Lockdowns

Just that really. What would have happened if we hadn't locked down in March or if we don't have lockdowns now

Sadly, I think that may well be the case soon, anyway, because too many people are too complacent/selfish/stupid to follow the guidelines, or any lockdown rules, until death rates rise sharply and the reality sinks in. Take a look at the news footage today featuring the impromptu street party in Nottingham last night, where people seemed determined to crowd together as much as possible in a last desperate bid to exchange virus particles, before losing the opportunity once the midnight lockdown began. They were mostly in their 20s, and they were partying like there was no tomorrow. All this despite the widely publicised facts about rising case numbers and the fact that many people will have mild/no symptoms, but still be contagious. Too many people just don't believe the facts and/or have an "I'm alright Jack" attitude. I despair of the human race at times.

Lockdown or no lockdown this pandemic was always going to be hard, and health systems around the world were always going to struggle with the strain of a pandemic. Without a parallel universe where our government handled things differently we can never know how things might have panned out, for better or worse, had different decisions been made. But the rising case numbers tell us that this winter is going to be very hard, and even the hard of thinking will be forced to face reality eventually.
