Has anyone had contact (brief or prolonged) with a positive case and not caught it?

8 people at my work have tested positive.

I've been told to work from home for the next 14 days and asked to isolate.

Just wondering if this means that since I've been in some form of contact, that I'm really likely to get it myself?

Has anyone been in contact with a positive case and not caught it?
What type of contact was it?

I work in a pod of 4 nursery teachers (so no masks, prolonged contact, sharing equipment, staff rooms and toilet) and one tested positive 3 weeks ago. The other 2 and I had to self isolate for 2 weeks ending last Friday and none of us have showed any symptoms.

I thought it would be a done deal but we seem to have escaped it (this time!)

I work in a pod of 4 nursery teachers (so no masks, prolonged contact, sharing equipment, staff rooms and toilet) and one tested positive 3 weeks ago. The other 2 and I had to self isolate for 2 weeks ending last Friday and none of us have showed any symptoms.

Is this with zero distancing?

DS shared a house with 2 other guys who both had the symptoms in February. He didn't get it. A month ago another friend tested positive about 5 days after DS spent the evening at his house , and he was OK then as well

Well, we try to keep at least 1m apart from each other but as you can imagine with 50 three and four year olds running about, it's not always possible! We do clean rigorously and frequent wash/sanitise our hands though.

He isolated the first time, but wasn't told about the last case until 10 days after the test and was then advised he didn't need to, presumably because of the time it took to get a result.

3 out of 5 of us in this house positive, 2 negative and no symptoms after 14 days so seem to have escaped it.
DH even sharing a bed with me and still didn't catch it.

I work as a health care assistant in a NHS hospital. Earlier in the year, I was working on a ward for suspected Covid patients. Some of them tested positive, some didn't. Several of my colleagues at the time tested positive (with symptoms). Others (from a random research test) were positive but asymptomatic.

I tested negative from that, and also negative from later antibody test in June. So i know several people in my work place who have had it (as well as patients) but doesn't look like I have had it myself. We do wear PPE, but the patients don't wear masks etc on the wards.

At the beginning of lockdown, many nurses and carers were working without PPE (not even masks). Some of their patients had coronavirus. Although lots of carers and nurses became infected, many didn't- including some who had been in very close contact with covid patients.

There is an element of chance I think. It's about risks, not inevitabilities.

Hope you're ok op - keep well and look after your body in the meantime, as that at least is something you have control over. When I was self isolating that's what I did - plenty of fluids; not too much booze; healthy, nourishing delicious meals; reasonable nights sleep; gentle exercise and fresh air (if possible); trying to switch off from stress (I know the last one is easier said than done!)
Probably doesn't make a huge difference, but I figured that if I did have it then I would at least have given my body the very best chance of fighting it.

Someone I work with was house sharing with a person who received a positive test and he never caught it from them.

Were you distancing outdoors? Always 2m apart?

@chainreaction No, not a full 2m apart at all times. Kids were definitely not 2m apart. Adults were apart but probably more like 1 metre.

I know several households where one or two ppl got it and the others did not. I am pretty sure I had it in March but my DP didn’t get it at all.

My husband tested positive on Saturday, me and the kids are currently fine/no symptoms at all. My husband has it fairly mild, headache, feeling sick and tired. None of main symptoms x

My DS sat on the sofa for 3 hours with his girlfriends family on day 1 and day 3 of cv19- no-one got it. His girlfriend he lives with hasn't caught it from him.

My brother lives with her girlfriend and a flatmate. So very close proximity, every day. His girlfriend and flatmate both caught it and he did not.

Went away with friends recently and he started symptoms two days after returning home, we never developed anything and neither did his wife.

I’m a police officer. My shift partner got it. Long hours together in close proximity, I didn’t catch it.

I work in a hospital and have shared a car with a colleague (front seat no masks early days of Covid) who tested positive, been around other Covid positive colleagues and just last week was at college and learned I had to isolate through track and trace (it’s been 2 weeks tomorrow since exposure and I’m ok).
As of July I had no antibodies as I had the test. As far as I know I still haven’t had it.
It’s a funny old thing.
I read somewhere that a theory is that around 70-80% of people don’t actually pass it on but there are a subset of ‘superspreaders’ - often overweight, older men who possibly breathe more heavily and therefore expel more droplets? I don’t think we know enough about it yet.

Yes.

Came down with cold/flu at the same time as neighbour and neighbours visitor.

Visitor tested positive.
Neighbour and I were negative

I had covid ( swabs and antibodies positive) . My husband and I shared a bed the night before I developed bad symptoms and I had dinner with husband and best friend , chunking glasses etc.
They both tested negative . Neither my husband or children caught it whilst I self isolated in bedroom

My ds tested positive on Saturday, we sat at the table together for dinner on the Thursday 2 days prior , touched the same salt and sauce etc. No symptoms for anyone else in the house so far. Also in the car together a few times the same day.

I went to a yoga class with a positive case and didn't catch it - distancing of maybe 1m but all in a room together for an hour. I also had coffee sitting opposite a friend for maybe an hour again and didn't catch it - she tested positive 2 days later
