How many people have you heard of that have had positive covid result yet haven't even had the test?

I was in a club loo last night and got talking to a lady. She was saying she thinks the mask business is a waste of time and then told me about 3 people she knows who had positive covid results yet hadn't even gone for the test. All had booked the test. 2 were in a long queue and gave up. 1 felt poorly so didn't go. All got a message saying their results were positive. I've heard of others too.

Just wondered how many more have had this happen? Bit worrying imo.

I've heard this exact same story from 2 people who don't know each other. Both posted on FB that a friend's aunts, cats, hairdresser had this experience. Wording is exactly the same. It's bollocks

kimlo · 10/10/2020 10:38

actual people; 0

friend of a friends dog walker a few.

There are no hour long ques when you go by the way, you have an appointment time.

ItsGoingTibiaK · 10/10/2020 10:43

Are we playing seven degrees of conspiracy bullshit again?

Aragog · 10/10/2020 10:45

Not heard of that happening to anyone.

In recent times everyone I know personally who booked a test have had the test done. So far every one of them have been negative.

Why would anyone join a queue to be tested and then decide not to bother? That aspect alone would make me question the validity of the story. They'd already done the 'hard' bit by getting a test appointment and getting all the way over to it.

3littlewords · 10/10/2020 10:46

A parent at my dc school overslept and missed the appointment (was genuinely fatigued couldn't wake up) got a positive result the next day

mrshoho · 10/10/2020 10:48

not this again! fake news.

MissPoldark · 10/10/2020 10:52

I didn’t think clubs were open?
Anyhow, sounds like an absolute load of rubbish.

kimlo · 10/10/2020 10:55

@3littlewords the most unbeleivable bit of that is that someone got the results the next day. Why would the government set up a fake testing system then make themselves look incompetent by making it hard to get a test and leaving people waiting days for a result due to back logs?

If she didn't go to the testing center then her qr code was never used and her information was never linked to a test barcode.

Juniperandrage · 10/10/2020 10:55

I mean, I'm sure it happens occasionally due to administration errors but it's not some kind of epic plan to push up the positive result statistics.

Janevaljane · 10/10/2020 10:58

Well, if it does happen to be true good. At least they aren't getting false positives.

If they have symptoms (which is why they booked the test) they should be isolating anyway.

mrshoho · 10/10/2020 10:58

And at the testing centre the QR code is not scanned until the test sample has been bagged and handed over.

Funkypolar · 10/10/2020 11:00

What about home tests?

AldiAisleofCrap · 10/10/2020 11:01

Yes op it happened to my best friends mothers brothers second cousin twice removed. I know this is true because I read it on Facebook.

kimlo · 10/10/2020 11:02

@funkypolar you register the barcode yourself on the website for a home test.

Ellapaella · 10/10/2020 11:05

😂😂

raviolidreaming · 10/10/2020 11:05

🙄

Ellapaella · 10/10/2020 11:07

A lady who thinks that's masks are a waste of times claims to have had a positive result for a test she never had...
A likely story

Heatherjayne1972 · 10/10/2020 11:09

2 people I know - didn’t actually have a test yet both received a text saying they were positive
Not sure why you’d book a text and not go tho

110APiccadilly · 10/10/2020 11:10

When dealing with government systems, never ascribe to malice what can be explained by incompetence. I'm sure this has happened - they've had someone else's test results. There was an article on BBC Wales the other day about someone who'd had a while tranche of test results texted to them by mistake.

Clymene · 10/10/2020 11:14

It's always someone someone knows. Weird

LeanishMachine · 10/10/2020 11:16

I thought clubs were closed?

mrshoho · 10/10/2020 11:16

I'd just like to know where this club is and how late it's open? I'm jealous as the days of casually chatting in the loo seems a distant memory right now!

incognitomum · 10/10/2020 11:18

long queues

Wasn't lady it was her friends. 1 workmate.

One in ten tests in my area are positive - we are a high risk area.
How odd that this happened all 3 of them in your story.
