How many people have you heard of that have had positive covid result yet haven't even had the test?

I was in a club loo last night and got talking to a lady. She was saying she thinks the mask business is a waste of time and then told me about 3 people she knows who had positive covid results yet hadn't even gone for the test. All had booked the test. 2 were in a long queue and gave up. 1 felt poorly so didn't go. All got a message saying their results were positive. I've heard of others too.

Just wondered how many more have had this happen? Bit worrying imo.

I know a person who doesn't exist, he had symptoms but didn't book a test and doesn't own a mobile phone and he still got a positive test result text message.

Augustbreeze · 10/10/2020 11:33

In the article you link to, OP, the long queues were caused by the test centre not having been set up although the website was allowing bookings for it.

So lots of people were queueing because they arrived and the people booked for 15,30,45 mins (etc) before them hadn't been tested and since left, because there was no working test centre.

(Obviously this isn't evidence of great government organisation either!)

I know there's a lot of disbelief here but my partner's workplace all got told to get themselves tested as they do fortnightly as routine as keyworkers and one of his colleagues received a positive result despite having to leave the queue after 3 hours to go and pick up his children from school.

Load of old bollocks and fake news. Didn't happen, this is just one of these stories that's being passed around

Itsabeautifuldayheyhey · 10/10/2020 13:11

I call bs.

Jrobhatch29 · 10/10/2020 13:12

@middleager

One in ten tests in my area are positive - we are a high risk area. How odd that this happened all 3 of them in your story.
How do you find out the positivity rate for your area?
Ken1976 · 10/10/2020 23:01

My son had a positive result 12 days ago , but he had had the test .

PickAChew · 10/10/2020 23:03

Crackpot.

Northernsoullover · 10/10/2020 23:07

I've heard this bullshit too.

Frappuccinofan · 10/10/2020 23:11

Everyone with social media has heard of this conspiracy

I note you didn’t say anyone you personally know experienced this, it’s something you heard from a friend of a friend of a friend etc. You’re so far removed from the persons this apparently happened to that it’s basically Chinese whispers - you don’t even know if the people the woman taking to even exists? She could have just read it online and twisted it to “people she knows”

IcyApril · 10/10/2020 23:18

I’ve heard of two from two different sources. I’ve been tested twice and had two negatives.

Buckwheat80 · 10/10/2020 23:36

My best friend's milkman's tennis partner's gynaecologist says that Elvis is still alive and runs a fish & chip shop in Morecambe. Can anyone confirm?

ceeveebee · 10/10/2020 23:38

I did hear this and I wondered whether it was a deliberate strategy to be ultra cautious - so if someone books a test and doesn’t turn up, they get told they are positive so that they will act accordingly and self isolate etc? But that’s just my own thoughts!

Nicketynac · 10/10/2020 23:39

@Jrobhatch29 I use travelling tabby, it has loads of info for Scotland - split into health board and council area. Not sure what it has for rest of UK.

Hopingforthebestx · 10/10/2020 23:56

This is false news.

After I tested positive my DP ordered tests for himself and our two DC. Naively, he forgot to register the kit online but did everything else properly and kept the bar code numbers etc.

After 72 hours and no result he called the line to chase up the tests and was told that unless you activate your unique kit reference online first you won't get results.

So who is activating these un-used tests that people decide not to bother with, at the test sites?

Utter garbage.

daisypond · 11/10/2020 00:02

I don’t know anyone that’s even had a test.

ItIsEnola · 11/10/2020 00:03

Did they, aye? Hmm

killerofmen · 11/10/2020 00:05

I've heard it before from disreputable sources. Now it's been confirmed by some lady you met in the ladies loos, I know it's true!

StatisticalSense · 11/10/2020 00:06

I haven't had one yet but am totally expecting to receive a result relating to the woman who seems to give my mobile number, for everything from Avon to debt collectors to applying for a payday loan, at some point considering she has been using the number of several years and still doesn't seem to realise it isn't her number.

yearinyearout · 11/10/2020 06:49

Clubs aren't open but nice try.

DeliciouslyFemale · 11/10/2020 07:03

@yearinyearout

Clubs aren't open but nice try.
Oh that’s hilarious. It hadn’t even occurred to me. You’re a twat, OP. 🤣
sashh · 11/10/2020 07:23

This is a new one. Has it taken over from the brown lady warning not to Xmas shop and implying there are bombs?

I'm sure we are due that one soon.

I've heard David Icke claim wearing green deactivates the lizards and that stops covid bring transmitted by 5G, although he also says covid doesn't exist.

CostaCosta · 11/10/2020 07:35

Has anyone noticed that corona spelt backwards is anoroc. Can anyone help me to make something cryptic out of this?

Hellomoonstar · 11/10/2020 07:41

I haven’t heard about this. Are you sure it wasn’t a text meant for someone else? For example, I seen few posters on mn claiming they give restaurants fake numbers, now imagine if there is a positive test, then that faks number would be called. Would same thing happen with Covid testing? Are the telephone numbers provided when booking a test verified?

Hellomoonstar · 11/10/2020 07:45

@StatisticalSense I have the same trouble with a Mr Ferguson.
