To Isolate or not isolate?

coronaornotcorona · 29/09/2020 19:38

Sorry to start yet another thread on coronavirus!
I have the track and trace app. Developed Cold symptoms on Sat eve, so muscular aches and sore throat. NO cough, NO temperature, until this eve when my sore throat became a bit worse, and I now have a mild temperature of 37.7-37.8.
(My DH had a sore throat and a cold last week and now hie's totally fine, that's why I am sure I got it from him) So now what?
I go to the app, and out of the 3 symptoms I only have a temp. But NOT like high temperature or fever, as I understand it. I count high temp over 38.
The wording on the app say HIGH temp but not what temp is High enough to be a symptom.
Moving on, I keep clicking, and bosh! I need to self isolate for 9 days according to the app. Red alarm dot flashing all all of it!! What???
If the definition of high temperature was clearer, I may have had a different result. Also, no going back on the app. Once you ticked one symptom box and was told to isolate you are trapped. So even if you clicked on something completely by mistake that's it, and maybe 100 people or so will now be impacted as a result.
So, to isolate or not? I can smell dinner cooking downstairs just fine and my Strepsils taste like lemon indeed.
Honestly it's just a mild cold and I'll be fine tomorrow.

Still no results. Tomorrow I am going back to normal, enough is enough.

Don't ask what to do on Mumsnet next time.

Treesofwood · 04/10/2020 18:57

But seriously, is there a chance you gave the wrong number?

ImFree2doasiwant · 04/10/2020 19:02

That's madness! Our results were back in 15 hours last week

coronaornotcorona · 04/10/2020 21:37

@Treesofwood I call everyday to 119 to chase my results. All they can do is send an email
to escalate, but if your results got lost for example no one will let you know. Everyday they take my details and confirm phone number, email and the barcode number. So I am sure they have the right information but apparently chasing does not make a difference.

OP posts:
coronaornotcorona · 04/10/2020 21:38

@ImFree2doasiwant yes. Madness. Are you in London?

@coronaornotcorona

Still no results. Tomorrow I am going back to normal, enough is enough.
Then you're a fucking idiot.
Treesofwood · 04/10/2020 22:35

Sounds like yours must be caught up in these missing tests. If there's however many thousand positive missing, there's 20 times as many negative...

Treesofwood · 04/10/2020 22:38

It used to be 7 days for a positive. MH opened a big scary field hospital 7 days after developing symptoms.
You are 10 days tomorrow from developing symptoms. Assume it was a positive and you are free anyway?

Dug14 · 04/10/2020 22:45

@coronaornotcorona

Still no results. Tomorrow I am going back to normal, enough is enough.
And here is why we have issues.

OP come on. Why risk it? Why risk others? Because its an inconvenience to you? Settle down. I still can’t re-open my business because of the likes of people who just can’t do the right thing. Bloody inconvenient that is, let me tell you.

DumplingsAndStew · 04/10/2020 22:46

The 29th was FIVE days ago!!
Treesofwood · 04/10/2020 22:47

Yes and her symptoms started the previous Saturday.

DumplingsAndStew · 04/10/2020 22:55

The previous Saturday to this post was the 26th. Which was still only 8 days ago.
But the Covid symptoms didn't start til the day of this thread, which was 5 days ago.

Treesofwood · 04/10/2020 22:57

The illness started last Sat, Day 1. Tomorrow is Day 10.

DumplingsAndStew · 04/10/2020 23:00

The COVID symptoms started on the evening the OP posted, five days ago.

coronaornotcorona · 05/10/2020 07:12

@DumplingsAndStew No! @Treesofwood is right. My symptoms of cold started on Saturday last week, with temperature notices only on Tuesday, but that is because I decided to take it that day. Who knows, I may have had temp before but it is so mild and I didn't check.

Can you also don't be so rude please calling me a fucking idiot. If this make you so angry, please go away.

I guess they lost it, but how on earth this is possible? Where would they put these strange pile of plastic bags?

SLAW70s · 05/10/2020 08:00

Can I just clarify to other posters that the technical issue with results this week relates to a delay in contact tracing not actual results. None are lost, there was just a glitch in reporting daily numbers.

FWIW OP my dd’s symptoms started at the same time as yours roughly (Late Friday early hours of Saturday before last) and she’s allowed out today despite having a positive result. I don’t think you’re being ridiculous ending your isolation

Streamingbannersofdawn · 05/10/2020 08:06

My colleague's test was lost. She completed the isolation period but it was incredibly stressful for us as a business we needed to shut for two days due to the staff shortage and other staff being completely worn out covering.

We did the right thing obviously but in the back of my mind I can t help thinking "bet it was negative" which makes it all worse.

The system is an absolute shambles.

Streamingbannersofdawn · 05/10/2020 08:08

Oh, she managed to get a human being on the phone who admitted the test had been registered but "sometimes they go astray". They chased it up...nothing. Like I said the isolation period has been completed now. I'll still be insisting staff get tests if needed but honestly...way to put everyone off!

Just drawing a line under this debate.

So as of the 6th October, no results has arrived. That is 7 days wait. Obviously I will never know what happened but it does not matter any more.

Conclusion:

Complete waist of time, disfunctional system, based on my case and the stories in the news.

App deleted. Obviously reporting (or non reporting) is unreliable so I don't want to get false warnings on the app, thank you very much!

@coronaornotcorona

I just got a test booked for tomorrow!! I will isolate my household for now. Anyone knows how long till you get an answer? I am starting a new job on Monday so hopefully this Is just a cold 🤞🤞🤞
Good luck. As others have said, it won't impact anyne other than you and your family unless you get a positive result.

My dad had a test last Friday at 3pm and got results at 9am the next morning, heres hoping for a quick (negative) result for you, we couldn't believe how quick his was but he seems in the minority unfortunately.

NRatched · 07/10/2020 04:56

Dear god, sorry, just read your update, assumed this was a new thread Blush

IrishMamaMia · 07/10/2020 07:38

Sorry to hear this. What a stressful nightmare. I won't be downloading the app until anything like that is ironed out.
