To Isolate or not isolate?

Sorry to start yet another thread on coronavirus!
I have the track and trace app. Developed Cold symptoms on Sat eve, so muscular aches and sore throat. NO cough, NO temperature, until this eve when my sore throat became a bit worse, and I now have a mild temperature of 37.7-37.8.
(My DH had a sore throat and a cold last week and now hie's totally fine, that's why I am sure I got it from him) So now what?
I go to the app, and out of the 3 symptoms I only have a temp. But NOT like high temperature or fever, as I understand it. I count high temp over 38.
The wording on the app say HIGH temp but not what temp is High enough to be a symptom.
Moving on, I keep clicking, and bosh! I need to self isolate for 9 days according to the app. Red alarm dot flashing all all of it!! What???
If the definition of high temperature was clearer, I may have had a different result. Also, no going back on the app. Once you ticked one symptom box and was told to isolate you are trapped. So even if you clicked on something completely by mistake that's it, and maybe 100 people or so will now be impacted as a result.
So, to isolate or not? I can smell dinner cooking downstairs just fine and my Strepsils taste like lemon indeed.
Honestly it's just a mild cold and I'll be fine tomorrow.

Temp = test and isolate. Even a doctor can’t know for sure it’s not Covid without a test. There is no question.

justanotherneighinparadise · 29/09/2020 20:35

Well youve just managed to put a huge amount of people off from downloading the app!!!

Hope your result is negative.

RepeatSwan · 29/09/2020 20:35

@IrishMamaMia

It really sounds like a cold. Look at it this way, you could be taking a test from someone who really needs it.
This makes me rather angry. Stop telling people not to test when government guidance is to test.

The whole point of a test is to test if it is covid or a cold. Because they present with the same symptoms.

mxjones · 29/09/2020 20:36

I'd test as you have a temperature. If the app says isolate then you have to isolate or risk being fined.

AmelieTaylor · 29/09/2020 20:38

@neveradullmoment99

I have three colds over the last few weeks. I haven't had a temperature. My dd did have a cold and had a temperature but i kept her off school until i was sure she didnt have it. I also kept my other children off.
Wow. What special powers do you have? That's genius to be able to tell if she has COVID or not, maybe PHE could employ you to go around the schools checking all the kids for them, that'll save all that testing nonsense!

Why?

The op would have known she had a temperature anyway, and everyone should know that is a reason to self isolate and get a test

AmelieTaylor · 29/09/2020 20:39

@Treesofwood

Delete the app would be my advice. Possibly too late though.
WTAF would you do/suggest that ?
Treesofwood · 29/09/2020 21:18

Amelie - because you can't go back if you've made a mistake entering info (OP) , because it can falsely identify you as having had close contact with someone with Covid, because it's run by Serco, because you could be falsely imprisoned within your home for 10 days.

Treesofwood · 29/09/2020 21:19

Just a few reasons.

The op didn't make a mistake entering info.
Treesofwood · 29/09/2020 21:26

No, but other people might accidently make a mistake, then bam! Ten days house arrest and 10k fine if you are caught outside for no good reason. And I'm still not clear if high temp is over 37.8 or at 37.8 and over...

DumplingsAndStew · 29/09/2020 21:27

Some people are stupid, aren't they? Hmm

Bupkis · 29/09/2020 21:29

Ffs.

Lemons1571 · 29/09/2020 21:29

I didn’t think you could get a fine for going against what the app wants you to do? I thought fines were only if you test positive or if t&t ask you to isolate.

DumplingsAndStew · 29/09/2020 21:31

Some people just make up rules as they go along though.

Glitterinthegrey · 29/09/2020 21:31

@coronaornotcorona

I just got a test booked for tomorrow!! I will isolate my household for now. Anyone knows how long till you get an answer? I am starting a new job on Monday so hopefully this Is just a cold 🤞🤞🤞
I had a test Sunday morning, haven't yet had the results. Another family member also had a test Sunday morning (separately, at a different site), and got the result first thing yesterday morning. So... You might be lucky, you might be waiting.
IrishMamaMia · 29/09/2020 21:37

@RepeatSwan it might be government guidance but it is really hard to get tests in most areas. It really is a waste if it's a cold and it's for the OP to decide. Feel rather angry if you like!

Treesofwood · 29/09/2020 21:38

Your phone can instruct you to self isolate if you put the app on it. 10k fine for breaking self isolation.

Treesofwood · 29/09/2020 21:39

Dumplingsandstew Johnson and Hancock you mean?

Treesofwood · 29/09/2020 21:40

That was to the second comment above... Not the first... I think...

Yes I do, because people doing that are causing local spikes and risking lives of others.

If people cba to get a test, stay home for the full isolation period.

Augustbreeze · 29/09/2020 22:03

You can't be fined for acting against the advice of the app to self isolate. From the BBC website:

If the app tells you to self-isolate, you're supposed to, but it is not a legal requirementnt*^ in the same way as when you test positive for the virus or are contacted directly by NHS test and trace.

Treesofwood · 29/09/2020 22:11

Augustbreeze That is positive at least. One less reason not to download it.

Lolita89 · 29/09/2020 22:24

Glad you’re getting a test - it’s the safest way at the moment. My dd developed a cough, we isolated, booked a test (same day, and we’re in a restricted area where people complain there are no tests...), and 24 hours later the negative result came back. Quite straightforward and quick process for us. Good luck tomorrow.

MrsFezziwig · 30/09/2020 10:18

Anyone knows how long till you get an answer

My friend just had one in the morning and it came back the same evening.

@Treesofwood Hard to know how you managed to get so many inaccuracies in such a short post. Serco are involved with Test and Trace not the app. If you are informed by the app that you should isolate only you will get that information as it is retained on your phone not centrally, so it is up to you whether you isolate or not (unlike Test and Trace where you will be recorded on their system).
