So-called 'NHS' app only allows you to upload results from private Serco tests, not NHS tests.

BBC are reporting that the app won't let users upload negative test results, but from the comments under this article on Twitter, the app won't let you upload positive or negative results if your test was done in an NHS lab (confirmed by a tweet by the 'NHS' app Twitter account. here )

Why was Johnson so annoyed when people pointed out it is Serco Track and Trace, not NHS Track and Trace?

This whole thing is a farce and I won't be downloading an app made by this bunch of incompetents.

Well, colour me surprised.

WrongKindOfFace · 26/09/2020 13:45

Presumably it won’t work with private tests either?

Char2015 · 26/09/2020 13:47

For god's sake. It just gets worse. A NHS app that can't support their own test results. What a shambles.

Similar problems elsewhere.

23rd September;

"As England and Wales prepare to unveil a coronavirus contact-tracing app, Germany is drawing less than enthusiastic first conclusions about the effectiveness of battling the pandemic with smartphones."

"A hundred days after its launch, German authorities conceded that IT glitches and poor communication channels with laboratories make the country’s Corona-Warn-App “one more tool of many” rather than a Covid-19 cure-all."

"As well as only working on newer smartphone operating systems, experts found the [German] app’s contact tracing via Bluetooth to work unreliably on buses, trains and subways, where the risk of an infection is higher than in open air. Other users have complained of error messages that would not go away after un- and reinstalling the app."

"For the app to work smoothly, laboratories should be able to feed their test results directly into the app. But by Monday 20% of German labs who can carry out PCR tests were still unable to do so, because their software was incompatible with the app’s digital infrastructure, developed by Telekom and the tech giant SAP."

We had this issue this morning. DH negative but can’t record it as I booked him the test on the gov site after hours of trying.
He was trying via app no luck. Apparently if test booked via app you can record the result.

Again if they had said this at the launch people may have gone ok there’re working on it but no. Find out as people try to use it. So again if positive and test booked outside the app you can’t record it.

Pardon my language FUCKING MENTAL.

rooarsome · 26/09/2020 14:06

So they can behind the name of the NHS when it all goes tits up, when in reality it is NOT and NHS app

And yet, it is...

We are being gaslit by our own Government.

ChaChaCha2012 · 26/09/2020 14:09

Imagine a government that launched an app three months after other countries, yet failed to learn anything from their experiences.

Good try to deflect Clav, but as ever, you confirm our government to be even more inept.

Still trying to figure out how an smartphone app is supposed to help if so many people don't have phones that can use this. Waste of time and money IMHO.

When did you learn that the German app had glitches? The Guardian article was written 3 days ago.

Surely the government doesn't wait to hear things from the papers before reacting.....oh wait 🤭
Maybe with Brexit they're not allowed to liaise with Germany anymore when it comes to something like this. 🙄

Clavinova · 26/09/2020 14:39

Perhaps Keir Starmer won't mention the German app now?

StatisticalSense · 26/09/2020 14:50

There's a need to balance the need to ensure people cannot input fake positives into the app (as behavioural science shows that some people would do so if they could) and the need to make as many genuine results as possible be inputted. The easiest solution would presumably be allocating the NHS tests (and interested private companies) batches of codes (with the usual fail safes to ensure people cannot easily guess codes) for the app for them to allocate to individual tests.

AKissAndASmile · 26/09/2020 15:17

Let's be fair, it doesn't matter if the app works or not, as long as the Tories can bung some cash to their mates. FFS.

They managed to pretend to have a competent app for two days before they blew their cover 🙄
Why on earth was this not ironed out before launching it to much fanfare? My local radio station last night was going on about how they're proud to be partnering with the 'NHS' to make this weekend NHS app download weekend.

Oh, yes, I googled one of the companies 'exposed' by the media;

2019 "Insider insight into what it's like to work at Hanbury Strategy."

"Hanbury has always been cross-party; a place where all ideas are valued and we aren’t afraid to challenge each other. I was the first Lib Dem to join the team, and now two-thirds of the 2017 Labour Policy Unit is now at Hanbury. I’ve found that clients really value this diversity of thought."

Yes,

In Wales test result notifications include a token to enter into the app.
mobile.twitter.com/ifan_e/status/1309774774546173952

Similar in Scotland (different app though).

historyismything · 26/09/2020 15:31

It's run by Serco. Why is anyone surprised? It's only NHS in name.

AKissAndASmile · 26/09/2020 15:33

That's not who developed the app, Clav.
