Possibly no household mixing?

@Votesforpedro
Actually RTAs may have been down during lockdown but the number of cyclists killed on the roads was way up. I'll see if I can find the article I was reading a couple of days ago

SockYarn · 21/09/2020 17:58

RTAs were down because nobody was travelling to work. Not because people weren't going to the beach.

anon444877 · 21/09/2020 18:02

So a reduction in a small number of RTAs to a smaller number was worth the policy? I guess we’ll have to wait several years for the epidemiologists to conclusively agree on that and agree to disagree meanwhile.

sonicbook · 21/09/2020 18:04

@SockYarn not aware at all of the teaching unions calling for nat 5s to be scrapped.

The SQA and schools and the unions are desperately trying to work out exactly what we're supposed to do with a bunch of kids who have and will continue to miss significant chunks of school due to a variety of factors.

OnNaturesCourse · 21/09/2020 18:04

I think it'll be : no household visits across the whole of Scotland, a travel restriction and prehaps some sort of change in hospitality/pubs.

I think it should be : pub closures unless they can provide sit down table service, household visit restrictions but not complete ban (ie you can mix with one household like a bubble) a bigger push for monitoring parks etc (but I've no idea how they'd do this to be fair - but the parks around me are ridiculous with little to no space for distancing)

I see there is talk of going to a level 4 alert - was this the level we started at in May, or was it a 5?

IwishIwasyoda · 21/09/2020 18:06

And i agree with @SockYarn. There is a middle way that is being missed here of not panicking because numbers are going up and making sensible decisions on the back of this i.e. go back to the clarity of the 2m SD rule, indoors be careful and don't mix with too many groups. Halt lots of non-essential things - Bingo anyone, contact sports indoors, pubs etc. Hold off reopening children's indoor activities.

Actually employ people to go round inspecting premises to make sure they are complying (because the pub near me was certainly turning a blind eye to the gang of 20 men all sat outside together a couple of weeks ago). And don't introduce rules that can't be enforced like quarantine ... so many people didn't follow that one and just lied about where they had been and when.

And frankly once you start testing more you find more cases. When schools opened people were testing for all sorts of non-Covid symptoms - that seems to have settled down now - but it meant the measure of % of tests positive was skewed (because a huge number would never have had covid in the first place)

Its all nuts

frasersmummy · 21/09/2020 18:09

Given we had 255 cases and 83 recoveries today.. Net cases 172 across the whole of Scotland I don't think we should have any more restrictions put in place.

It's a total over reaction

waitforitwaitforit · 21/09/2020 19:21

@Votesforpedro

Are people for real ? You think they shouldn't impose rules that should help with transmission because you find your local parks 'samey' ? The amount of complacency right now is astonishing
Oh ffs @Votesforpedro, I didn't say they shouldn't impose restrictions because I find my local park 'samey', I said I found my local park samey. It's not the same (y) thing.
LongWinterNights · 21/09/2020 23:21

@SockYarn as someone who lives on one of the islands with less than 10 confirmed cases I agree with you - people locally are going to be extremely p*ssed off if the restrictions are to be nationwide. We have been crying out for months for travel/tourism on and off the islands to be restricted to almost no avail!
