Scotland - what's coming 'measures' wise for us do you think?

Possibly no household mixing?

OP posts:
Judystilldreamsofhorses · 21/09/2020 16:59

I think hospitality will be restricted, and also mixing with other people indoors stopped, as a first step.

I feel really sad at the idea of total lockdown in the October break, although I can obviously see the sense in it to minimise disruption. (We have two weeks, from the 9th.)

UnholyStramash · 21/09/2020 17:01

Re-October holidays, city areas get a week and the other days elsewhere in the year. Rural areas - I’m in PKC - get 2 weeks because of the tradition for families needing maximum help for the potato harvest, ie tatty howking.

I hope they don’t introduce the 5 mile travel limit again, I’m so sick of the handful of available options for wearing out children locally. Plus I live in a dense area, the restrictions made the greenspace very busy.

Just ignore it. Out of all of the utterly stupid rules, that's the best one. Don't be going to Largs on a hot, sunny Saturday, or organising a hoolie at Loch Lomond. But if you fancy a quiet walk through a park 20 miles away, go.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 21/09/2020 17:10

@waitforitwaitforit no increase in cases have happened in my area because of schools, the primary and secondary my DC attend have had no increase in cases or pupils sent home so far

Cakestandkitchen · 21/09/2020 17:14

The 5 mile thing was ridiculous. My nearest shop is 8 miles away!

dementedpixie · 21/09/2020 17:14

We had one case in our secondary school but that was 19 days ago with no other notifications about further spread - secondary school with over 900 pupils

dementedpixie · 21/09/2020 17:15

Was it not 5 miles for leisure purposes rather than for essential travel for shopping/ care for others?

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 21/09/2020 17:21

Us too. We're rural but have the sea to the east and south (and no road to the north) so 5 miles doesn't get us far at all. In the summer that was mostly fine but sitting on the rocks in the autumn/winter is a lot less appealing.

So far no cases in the village primary and I presume nothing in the local secondary because local facebook seem a bit mutinous.

anon444877 · 21/09/2020 17:25

If there’s another big lockdown there will be a lot of mutinous feelings from low covid areas.

It was less safe for us to exercise in a packed 5 mile area than use our discretion to drive to places where we could more easily distance. Let’s hope we won’t see that again!

Votesforpedro · 21/09/2020 17:25

Children won't be locked in for the October holidays, what a strange thing to say. Children were never locked in as they were in other countries such as Spain. We have country parks, nature walks and cycle routes that have always been open throughout and are there to enjoy.

Not within 5 miles of me. We’ve a couple of city parks but they’re busy and get a bit same-y. The 5 mile rule was frustrating.

Surely to God they won’t impose the same restrictions on the island authorities as the mainland?

SockYarn · 21/09/2020 17:32

And if it's pouring with rain and blowing a force 10 gale?

Then you put on your waterproofs and get on with it
RJnomore1 · 21/09/2020 17:36

Please god don’t let them shut gyms again 🙏🏻

anon444877 · 21/09/2020 17:38

Waterproofs and hair shirts! Such fun.

Votesforpedro · 21/09/2020 17:39

Are people for real ? You think they shouldn't impose rules that should help with transmission because you find your local parks 'samey' ? The amount of complacency right now is astonishing

SockYarn · 21/09/2020 17:40

Oh you're one of THOSE @Votesforpedro. The "there's no bad weather, there's only the wrong clothing!" tribe. Hmm

Waterproofs, mud and frostbite. Now that's what I call a holiday. Yipee.

Votesforpedro · 21/09/2020 17:43

Excess deaths and school closures. Such fun
anon444877 · 21/09/2020 17:44

There’s no proof that the 5 mile limit reduced excess deaths.

SockYarn · 21/09/2020 17:45

You're talking nonsense, Pedro. Driving 10 miles or 20 miles to a park or beach rather than staying with an arbitrary 5 mile limit does fuck all.

Votesforpedro · 21/09/2020 17:52

I think the 5 mile rule was about containment of potential outbreaks and reducing RTAs actually. Sockyarn what would you like to happen ? What would be your way of managing this pandemic ?

Votesforpedro · 21/09/2020 17:54

RTAs were down significantly during lockdown which in turn did free up staff and icu beds. Every little helps

Callisto1 · 21/09/2020 17:54

Well I guess the idea was to stop people driving 50 miles and congregating in popular spots. If you say 5 miles most will stay within 10.

SockYarn · 21/09/2020 17:55

The 5 mile limit is a nonsense. Totally arbitrary nonsense. Fine for people who live in a large city. Ridiculous for people who live rurally.

We need to learn to get on and live with this thing. We can't carry on shutting down and opening up like a yo-yo. Not if we want anyone to have a job. I'm fine with limits on household mixing - for a short period - encouraging people to work at home where possible, and closing the pubs at 10pm.
