What’s the chances of my haircut being cancelled?

whatarethechances234 · 19/09/2020 21:37

I’ve got a haircut on Tuesday morning, eyebrow wax on Monday night - both desperately needing done .

Local area has pretty low cases at the moment - not sure how low exactly but it’s one of the lowest in U.K... No talk of lockdowns here yet .

I’m getting myself into a flap thinking it will all be cancelled - I know it sounds so trivial, but it’s the only wee slice of normality I can find, and I’m desperate to get my hair out of my bloody eyes ...

What’s the chances these will both be cancelled/‘made illegal’ do you think? Pretty high?

By Tuesday? None at all.

ShellsAndSunrises · 19/09/2020 21:38

Nah, not by Tuesday. At least I’d be surprised. I think we’ll be put into “tier 2” across the country on Tuesday but you’ll be sorted by then - but that’s totally based on news articles.

mum2jakie · 19/09/2020 21:39

God I hope not. I've only just got round to booking my appointment! This will be my first haircut of the year!! I look my shit as it is...

zoezoeok89 · 19/09/2020 22:48

Unbelievable. People are dying, your eyebrow wAx is so unimportant.

89redballoons · 19/09/2020 22:49

I've got my first haircut in a year booked for Thursday, will be so gutted if it's cancelled! I had a baby just before Christmas and my hair is in a permanent state of horrible straggly mum-bun.

I was just gearing up to leave my three month old for a few hours to get it done in March... then the first lockdown was announced. It sounds trivial but I just hate looking in the mirror right now Sad

PatchworkElmer · 19/09/2020 22:52

Goodness only knows. I suspect that we’ll end up with more social restrictions (no socialising outside own household or bubble), rather than anything that affects the economy. I would guess that the haircut will be fine, but I’ve been wrong throughout the pandemic so 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yep. If someone somewhere is dying you 100 per cent should not be deriving any enjoyment from life whatsoever. I suggest you buy a hair shirt and flagellate yourself through the streets of your local town.
Lucindainthesky · 19/09/2020 23:01

Nobody desperately needs an eyebrow wax.

Cookerhood · 19/09/2020 23:02

What's tier 2?

movingonup20 · 19/09/2020 23:05

Sorry nobody desperately needs an eyebrow wax. Buy tweezers or go ai naterelle.

WhiteChocTwix · 19/09/2020 23:05

Not trivial OP! I hope your appointments don't get cancelled. Got dentist booked for Mon and eyebrows Wed lunchtime so I'm also hoping they don't get cancelled. It's been a tough time for close contact beauty and I for one hope they get to stay open 🤞

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 19/09/2020 23:07

FFS just because something very bad is happening (people dying) doesn't mean something trivially bad can't be considered also (eyebow waxing).

People die every day in accidents, from illnesses... does that mean no one can ever consider when to get their hair cut or their brows waxed?

BBCONEANDTWO · 19/09/2020 23:08

@PinkMacaron

I really wish there was a like button - love your post - and very true.

Hibbetyhob · 19/09/2020 23:11

I reckon we’ll be fine still on Tuesday - I’m getting my hair done then too so really hoping all is fine.

My next eyebrow appointment isn’t for a couple of weeks...I really hope beauty treatments can still carry on, I’m only just getting my brows back in shape after the last lockdown 😭

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 19/09/2020 23:15

I’ve got eyebrows on Thursday. I’m in Scotland and if we go back to “stage two” it will be outdoor hospitality, only shops with a street door (no malls) and no hair/beauty/gyms.

We had three weeks of local lockdown here, and hairdressers, salons, and shops actually stayed open. All hospitality closed other than takeaway though.

Itsabeautifuldayheyhey · 19/09/2020 23:23

No chance of them being cancelled.

My gran is dying of breast cancer in a care home alone and distressed .

My sister is alone in a care home with mental illness .

My dad phoned me last week and verbally abused me for 45 minutes because he’s angry with my mother .

I’m existing on universal credit and carers allowance .

I was bullied for ten years at school because I have PCOS, facial hair that made them laugh at me .

Having my eyebrows done makes me not want to punch the mirror in every morning .

So yes, it is important to me - it is the ONLY thing I am looking forward to . It is the only time I ever see another person, who doesn’t rely on me as their carer or punchbag .

I know how stupid it sounds, I just really genuinely don’t like my appearance at all and sometimes having my eyebrows done helps me to be able to leave the front door without panicking . It isn’t vanity, it’s fear - I had absolute hell as a teenager because of my appearance and I can’t forget it .

I’m clueless how to do them myself unfortunately - I have tried hundreds of times, even tried shaving them as a teenager unfortunately . I do still shave the rest just now, as still not allowed more facial hair removal .

OP posts:
Axlcat · 19/09/2020 23:55

@whatarethechances234 it absolutely does not sound stupid. The people berating you for wanting to do something to take care of yourself without knowing how important this might be to you are the stupid ones. Taking care of your mental health doesn’t mean that you don’t care about the pandemic. I hope you make it to your appointment.

FlibbertyGiblets · 19/09/2020 23:55

whatarethechances234 it is not stupid!
I hear you.
I fervently hope both appointments go ahead as planned.
Have a gentle arm squeeze.

@zoezoeok89 i had my haircut and colour done on Thursday for the first time in six months. It IS important to me. And i dont think its a coincidence that i started eating a lot more healthily to try and lose my lockdown weight on Friday. Boris can pontificate about weight all he wants but for me looking and feeling like a scruffbag is NOT conducive to dieting! And i know i wont be the only one who feels this way.

Re. first lockdown beauty salons (i still need facial hair removal) were the last to open up and STILL couldnt do facial treatments yet barbers were plucking mens nose hairs. Businesses run by and for women being left till last and the misogynistic hypocrisy of it all was the reason for the Beauty Backed campaign started by Caroline Hirons. Thankfully not everyone is keen to ignore the misogyny or see women thrown onto Universal Credit because of it.

whatarethechances234 · 20/09/2020 00:30

Thank you Flowers, I need to try calm down ! Googling endlessly trying to grasp some sort of control and realising that I haven’t any at all - except for the hope that they’re saying they’ll announce on Tuesday ... so all fingers crossed that we can still get these appointments done Mon/Tues ... and if not, just have to live with it for a few months again ...

There is that yes; hair and beauty is a huge industry in local town that’s already impoverished - half local businesses are beauty salons and that . Majority younger women that are employed, mums and school leavers ... God knows what happens if they’re all shut and furloughed (or not?) again . It doesn’t bear thinking about .

One of the worst things about potential Lockdown#2 or short circuit or whatever it is called is going to be the enthusiastic return of sanctimonious posters like the one on this thread, the ones that revel in sucking every last ounce of joy from life. Fabulous 😐

Legoandloldolls · 20/09/2020 00:47

PinkMacaron 😂😂

So true, I wanted to buy my child some new shoes but remembered that some children cant afford shoes, so I slammed my head in the door in shame instead. Because, you know, that helps the shoeless children of the world.
