Zoe has asked me to take a test but the government website does not agree - what to do?

So I've been using the Zoe Covid study app throughout lockdown etc and over the weekend I've had a cold so dutifully logged all symptoms on app.
Got an email from the app asking me to take a test because of symptoms reported (they ask for a huge list - not just temperature, cough or loss of taste/smell). I followed the link they sent, and the government website says only get a test if you have a temperature, continuous cough or loss of taste/smell - none of which I have. So do I listen to the Covid study people and get a test, which would involve lying and saying I do have one of the three government symptoms, or not get one because while the study says do, the government says don't?

I can't remember what I clicked now, I think there was on option to say I had been referred for a test. Mine is arriving tomorrow.

Palavah · 07/09/2020 21:03

I had the same - i clicked 'invited by my local council to take a test' (which I was, but a couple of months ago).
Test was supposed to arrive on Thursday. Still not here and if it does arrive it will be redundant.

The Zoe app told me to click I was a key worker to get my test, even thought I'm not.
They said they had permission from the government to do that for research purposes.

HampsteadHeathen · 07/09/2020 21:16

Get the test, it's for research purposes. That's the point of the Zoe app. Read the instructions in the email again.

As below...

Ok, well I've tried and the website appears to have crashed. Will try again a bit later.

Yes, I clicked key worker

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 07/09/2020 21:19

Oh dear - clearly I didn't read the email properly Blush

Key worker is the research option .

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 07/09/2020 21:27

Actually - looking at the email again the layout is not great. I read all the info up to the link which says 'book a test' and under that is the sign off from the study person. Then the actual instructions are added after that like a ps, which is why I didn't see them. Glad I asked here

Come back and update us with your results @BewareTheBeardedDragon

Aragog · 07/09/2020 22:59

I've had a couple. The Zoe app has me listed as a key worker and I was told via the email to click that option. I told the website I didn't have symptoms but that I was a key worker, and it let me proceed. Test booked at a walk thru tomorrow afternoon.

Aragog · 08/09/2020 20:59

My walk in appointment went straight forward today. It was incredibly quiet - I arrived about 15 min before I was due to be there and was able to go straight in. Had to do it myself. They've said results in 1-3 days.

My niece had an appointment last night at Stansted - results (negative) arrived this late afternoon.
DD's friend had one near us on Sunday - results (also negative) cape through today in the early hours.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 08/09/2020 22:13

I have ordered a home year and apparently it has been despatched.

Argh - I'm currently waiting on the helpline, which is experiencing 'very high call volumes' because you have to register your home test online before doing it and I've done everything it asked for to register it but when I try to submit it says there's a problem (doesn't say what the problem is) and advises calling the helpline. I've tried over and over online.

I'm so frustrated - I just want to do the bloody thing and get on with the many many other things i need to do. HmmAngryHmm

Stick with it OP. They've had such bad press this week over availability, hopefully they've thrown some resource at it and you'll soon get through.
I've had a cold too and just had an email from ZOE to do a test. I've ordered a home test so hopefully it will arrive tomorrow so I can get it back in the post quickly.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 10/09/2020 14:48

I got through after about 15mins, then spent a further 20mins going through the info with the operator. God knows why it wouldn't go through online, I'm not surprised they've been swamped on the phone if others have had the same as me. I've done the test, but when I followed all the instructions the stick of the test swab broke further down the tube than the pictures said it should so I'm hoping it will not be compromised. What a palaver - happy to go through it but really - whoever designed the tests should have put a little notch in the stick where it's supposed to break so that it would work properly.

Still waiting for my results - its been just over 48 hours since I had it done. My colleague had a test the day before due to symptoms and she still hasn't had her results back yet either.

Aragog · 12/09/2020 08:22

Got my results yesterday morning - so about 66 hours since it was taken.

Hermanfromguesswho · 12/09/2020 08:30

I’ve had 3 tests and they’ve all had a notch in the stick to help them break in the right place.

AldiAisleofCrap · 12/09/2020 11:01

There is notch in the sticks.
