Zoe has asked me to take a test but the government website does not agree - what to do?

So I've been using the Zoe Covid study app throughout lockdown etc and over the weekend I've had a cold so dutifully logged all symptoms on app.
Got an email from the app asking me to take a test because of symptoms reported (they ask for a huge list - not just temperature, cough or loss of taste/smell). I followed the link they sent, and the government website says only get a test if you have a temperature, continuous cough or loss of taste/smell - none of which I have. So do I listen to the Covid study people and get a test, which would involve lying and saying I do have one of the three government symptoms, or not get one because while the study says do, the government says don't?

The Zoe app asked me to get a Test last night but I haven’t been able to book one or order a home test annoyingly (Bristol). I have cold symptoms but with a sore throat and cough (not continuous).

The email told me that home tests are released at 8am and 5pm daily, and tend to run out within a short time. I was unable to get one in the evening that I got the email, but was able to get one just after 8 the next morning.

You know a "continuous cough" is one lasting more than an hour, or coughing 3 times in 24 hours?

There seem to be two different test kit manufacturers. One manufacturer is making notches on the sticks but the other one isn't. My GP SIL was most irate the other day about the lack of notch on her stick!

Glad I'm not going mad or just totally inept then!

NHS website says "coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours"

A coughing episode is presumably a significant fit of coughing, not the odd cough here or there? It's more defined that previously, yet still manages to not be clear at all (at least to me). Disclaimer - I don't have a cough at all but I still want to understand what to look out for.

we didn't have government symptoms but GP told us to test so we did. It was negative.
I'd follow my GP mumsnet if it was a certainty of outcome se wouldn't need to test.

Yes I know that I didn’t have a continuous cough but the Zoe app still wanted me to test with my particular symptoms for research purposes. Unfortunately I was unable to get a test.
