Will your schools be finishing early?

Mummypig2020 · 13/08/2020 17:00

Just that really.

Had an email to say that dd4 will finish Fridays at 12.15 and ds11 will finish at 1.15 on Fridays too.

Anyone else’s school doing this? Bit annoying 🙈

Some are doing this as there is no way of covering ppa without compromising bubbles. Some schools seem to just be ditching ppa.

ohthegoats · 13/08/2020 17:04

Yes. But I have to run a childcare rota for the children who normally go to afterschool club, because otherwise no one is looking after them for 30 minutes.

Qasd · 13/08/2020 17:23

Yes as they shortened the lunch break

PPA is a legal entitlement-I don’t think that they can just ditch it.
Uhoh2020 · 13/08/2020 20:51

What's the reason behind closing early OP?

WoWsers16 · 13/08/2020 20:52

They won't ditch PPA- what will happen is all teachers will have their PPA on that Friday afternoon and the school will probably have a deep clean x

SpinningWheelOfFortune · 13/08/2020 20:55

I still have no idea, DDs school said they will let us know start and finish times at the end of August. Not overly helpful as it gives me around 3 days to sort out any childcare that's needed.

Pipandmum · 13/08/2020 20:56

No school hours as normal - out at 4.30 every day.

copernicium · 13/08/2020 21:28

Yes, closing at 1pm on Fridays with no out of hours provision at all.

Playdoughbum · 13/08/2020 21:34

I think all rules are put aside. We were getting an hour ppa and no other time (leadership etc) during summer term as there was just no capacity. Lots of teachers now covering lunch too.

RedCatBlueCat · 13/08/2020 21:38

Secondary - normal hours.
Primary - days are all 30 mins shorter, but staggered. So DS2 is starting later AND finishing earlier....

ohthegoats · 13/08/2020 21:48

I'm getting my PPA and management time, but only half an hour break during the day - have to do 8.30 - 12.30 straight through covering break duty every day. Finish at 2.45, but have to find childcare for the kids who normally go to afterschools club, which starts at 3.15.

Toastycornflakes · 13/08/2020 22:33

We find out first week of September. The kids are back on the 7th

salemcat · 13/08/2020 23:08

Staggered start & finish here, DS starts 10 mins earlier & finishes 20 mins earlier.

Kitcat122 · 13/08/2020 23:32

We have staggered starting and finish times between, 8.00 - 9.15 finishing 2.30-4.00 between 5 of us. A logistical nightmare. Still not sure how I am going to work it.

greyinganddecaying · 13/08/2020 23:35

Not quite as early, but between 2-230pm. Apparently so they can deep clean the school

manicinsomniac · 13/08/2020 23:35

School I and DD3 are at:
Yes - early for some and late for others but we have longer than average hours anyway.
EYFS - 3:15 instead of 3:30
KS1 - 3:30 as normal
Lower KS2 - 4:15 instead of 4:40
Upper KS2 - 4:30 instead of 4:40
KS3 - 4:50 instead of 4:40

School DD1 and 2 are at - No, normal hours

cabbageking · 13/08/2020 23:36

Staggered start and end times for each year.
This starts earlier then usual and ends later than usual for some years
Lunch has been shortened but full day each day.
No after school clubs.

Recoverandthrive · 13/08/2020 23:37

This is quite common in many schools nowadays pre covid. Now it makes sense to avoid a PPA teacher weaving in and out of bubbles.

AllTheUserNamesAreTaken · 13/08/2020 23:40

School day is 20 minutes shorter - DS will be starting at 8.55am and finishing at 3.05pm.

Not sure what is happening with breakfast club which is apparently open. He’s booked in but they haven’t confirmed hours yet

TokyoSushi · 13/08/2020 23:44

Not too bad here, just 3 instead of 3:15

manicinsomniac · 13/08/2020 23:48

We also have breakfast club, wrap around care/activities and boarding happening more or less as normal.

CupCupGoose · 13/08/2020 23:59

I've literally heard nothing about anything happening in September from our school.

UndertheCedartree · 14/08/2020 09:00

As far as we have been told start times will be 8.30/8.40/8.50 and finish 2.30/2.40/2.50. They normally do 8.50 - 3.05/10/15/20/25. So slightly shorter days.

I think the teachers have their PPA while the DC are having specialist lessons - swimming/P.E/French/Music.

megletthesecond · 14/08/2020 09:03

Changed hours at secondary here. Luckily mine walk so they don't need public transport.

Each year group has staggered start and finish times to minimise crowding.
