Will your schools be finishing early?

Just that really.

Had an email to say that dd4 will finish Fridays at 12.15 and ds11 will finish at 1.15 on Fridays too.

Anyone else’s school doing this? Bit annoying 🙈

Staggered times but based on surname so siblings are all starting and finishing at the same time. I assume the first and last half hour of the day will be reading at desks whilst everyone is coming and going.

At the primary school I work in the year groups (2 classes) and associated staff (2 teachers 2/3 TAs) are bubbles. PPA is being sorted internally within bubbles. We have staggers so the hours are slightly different bu not shorter.

DS's school is doing 8am- 6pm as usual but there is no breakfast before school and 5-6pm is prep in classrooms instead of mixed year group enrichment activities. No flexi.

No but I have 4 (3 on the days Dc5 is at nursery) different drop off & pick up times & 4 separate queues & entrances. Luckily the oldest 2 can sort themselves in once we're there leaving me to queue with dc3 & 4. My eldest (y6) will finish at 3:10, which I thought was odd until her teacher told me it's to allow 20 minutes at the end of the day help any children that need it in specific areas of necessary.

Schools are doing this to save money on PPA staff, although many are doing it under the 'COVID' umbrella. I'm pretty sure there should be a consultation before changes like this are made. Have you only just had the email? 😳

There should totally be consultations yes. Instead of picking my children up at 1pm (so they can be registered by the school to appear to have had a full day), I’ll be picking up at the beginning of their lunch hour. No point in them being in for a packed lunch just for ‘registration purposes’ to effectively cover the schools arse .

We aren’t being told anything until the end of August.

All our local schools are doing half days on Fridays for a deep clean.

Yes, on Fridays they now finish at 1.15, but that's not COVID's fault. It was a long-term plan because schools now can't afford to stay open all week. Last year school finished at 2.30 on Fridays and now they have brought it forward another hour. On other days school will finish earlier if your surname is at the start of the alphabet (this is due to covid) so there are staggered times at the end of the day. My DC's surname is at the end of the alphabet, so they don't finish earlier but I do wonder who will be supervising them in the classroom while the teacher dismisses the first half of the alphabet from the playground.

My DD's school is still doing Breakfast club and ASC. But only one drop off (7.30am) in morning and one pick up in evening (5pm). Luckily my DD only stays til 5pm anyway.

20 mins earlier finish everyday
