Problems with COVID figures

So the Govt are unable to provide figures for COVID infections today . A cynical person would think it is because the figures are bad.
Thoughts appreciated

That's more relevant at the beginning of the pandemic, when little was known and testing was not so readily available, not now.The UK is now in negative excess deaths, that doesn't mean that no one is dying of covid-19.
