I'm going on holiday on Monday to Crete.
Do you think it's still "safe" to go?
I've heard mixed messages about possible lockdowns etc

France has just been added to the quarantine list, Greece wasn't mentioned

Friendsoftheearth · 14/08/2020 07:26

Greece is locking down restaurants and pubs, and are preparing to end the season early by all accounts, I hope they do so before the infection rate increases even more.

ithinkiveseenthisfilmbefore · 15/08/2020 11:20

In more bad news for British holidaymakers, Greece could soon be added to the quarantine list, after a spike in its infection rate, with a record 235 cases recorded on August 12. Daily new cases in the country were in the 30s towards the end of July.

A number of news stories are reporting similar.

Friendsoftheearth · 15/08/2020 13:25

I don't know why we don't just call it a day on the holiday front and bring everyone home.

ithinkiveseenthisfilmbefore · 15/08/2020 13:53

My headteacher (and other heads, I've heard) has reminded everyone that being home by this coming Tuesday is the last day to ensure you won't get stuck in quarantine for the school start if you're intending to travel outside the country. Staff with preexisting plans best have been in contact prior to this...

SodomyNonSapiens · 15/08/2020 17:54

I would definitely go too.

Of course there is a risk, everything has a risk.

I am 65 and I'm going to Turkey next month, so long as I am still allowed.

6000 people a year die in accidents in the home. So even staying at home isn't safe.

There are always 'what ifs'. What if you don't go and something else happens and she can never go again.

She is old enough to make her own decision.

pjmask · 16/08/2020 15:20

Op are you going to go tomorrow? Maybe you can report back and let us know what it's like, so much conflicting information on threads!

LivinLaVidaLoki · 16/08/2020 15:57

Cases are rising in Greece but they are specific clusters in 2 cities on the mainland. A wedding party and a factory mainly.

The Govt have taken measures which will be reviewed in 2 weeks.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 16/08/2020 15:59

@Friendsoftheearth
Greece is not locking down pubs etc. They are having to close at midnight. This is one of the measures put in place and being reviewed.

bringbacksideburns · 16/08/2020 16:53

Yes of course we can make our own decisions.

But she has COPD. It's high up on the high risk list and puts an entirely more scary slant on booking a holiday to Greece.

Is she declaring it to her health insurance because if she doesn't and becomes unwell you will end up in deep shit.

We all want a break. She's not thinking this through clearly. If she does go I wouldn't be going too. I wouldn't want to risk it because it will be you having to make arrangements if it goes tits up.
